Abstract

Patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis are at high risk of complications, including intradialytic hypotension, vascular access infection, anemia instability, and cardiovascular events. These complications significantly contribute to morbidity, hospitalization, and mortality. Preventive and structured management strategies are essential to improve clinical outcomes. This study aimed to identify and evaluate evidence on preventive interventions for major complications in maintenance hemodialysis patients. This systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. A comprehensive literature search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar for studies published between 2023 and 2025. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials and observational studies involving adult maintenance hemodialysis patients and evaluating preventive interventions targeting major dialysis-related complications. Study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment were conducted independently by two reviewers using predefined eligibility criteria. Ethical approval was not required because the review analyzed data from previously published studies. After screening 1,086 records and assessing 81 full-text articles, 12 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the qualitative synthesis. The included studies demonstrated that protocol-based and preventive interventions significantly reduced complication rates. Individualized ultrafiltration adjustment, cool dialysate application, and biofeedback systems reduced intradialytic hypotension. Vascular access care bundles lowered infection rates. Algorithm-based anemia management improved hemoglobin stability, while structured fluid management and cardiovascular screening reduced hospitalization and adverse cardiovascular events. Structured, nursing-driven, and preventive management strategies represent effective approaches to reducing major complications in maintenance hemodialysis patients. The integration of standardized monitoring protocols, evidence-based preventive interventions, and multidisciplinary care models should be prioritized in clinical practice to enhance patient safety, reduce hospitalization, and improve long-term patient outcomes. Keywords: hemodialysis; complications; intradialytic hypotension; anemia; infection prevention

Abstract

The increasing intensity of social media use among adolescents in the digital era has also increased the risk of exposure to cyberbullying, which has fatal impacts on mental health, including the emergence of suicide risk. Adolescents who experience cyberbullying tend to have a higher likelihood of suicidal ideation compared to adolescents who are not exposed to cyberbullying. Globally, suicide has become one of the leading causes of death among individuals aged 15–19 years, with more than 700,000 deaths annually. This study aimed to systematically analyze experiences of cyberbullying on social media and suicide risk among adolescents. This study employed a systematic literature review approach. The literature search was conducted through the ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases for publications from 2016–2026. Articles identified through the search process were screened based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Eligible articles were analyzed using narrative synthesis. Based on 14 included articles, the forms of cyberbullying experiences among adolescents included harsh or hurtful online comments, verbal humiliation on social media, and the spread of digital rumors. These experiences may lead to psychological distress such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, feelings of being a burden, and social isolation among adolescents. These conditions contribute to an increased risk of suicide, ranging from suicidal ideation to suicide attempts. In conclusion, the most prevalent experiences of cyberbullying on social media are harassment and denigration which can trigger internal psychological processes in adolescents such as thwarted belongingness and perceived burdensomeness. These psychosocial impacts can manifest as spectrum of suicide risk. Experiences of cyberbullying on social media is a complex mental health problem among adolescents and require comprehensive prevention strategies through digital literacy, psychosocial support, family and school involvement, and the promotion of adolescent mental health. Keywords: adolescent; cyberbullying; mental health; social media; suicide risk

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meals Program is a governmental initiative designed to improve the nutritional status of school‑age children by providing daily nutritious meals. The effectiveness of this program depends not only on food availability but also on students’ knowledge and attitudes toward healthy eating behaviors. This study aims to analyze the influence of knowledge and attitudes on consumption behavior related to the Free Nutritious Meals Program among students at State Senior High School 3 in Bima City. A cross‑sectional design was employed involving a population of all students at the school, with a sample of 160 students selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using simple and multiple linear regression. A total of 124 students demonstrated insufficient knowledge, 102 students exhibited positive attitudes, and 119 students showed good consumption behavior related to the Free Nutritious Meals Program. Knowledge significantly influenced consumption behavior (p < 0.001), and attitude also had a significant effect (p < 0.001). When analyzed together, knowledge and attitude jointly influenced consumption behavior (p < 0.001). Attitude had a stronger effect (B = 1.103) compared to knowledge (B = 0.258). Both variables explained 27.0% of the variation in consumption behavior, while the remaining 73.0% was attributed to other factors not examined in this study. In conclusion, knowledge and attitude significantly influence students’ consumption behavior related to the Free Nutritious Meals Program at State Senior High School 3 in Bima City. Keywords: free nutritious meals; knowledge; attitudes; consumption behavior; high school students

Abstract

ABSTRACT Nurses are among the healthcare professionals who interact most frequently with patients in improving healthcare service quality, particularly in implementing the Safewards model. Therefore, optimization through clinical supervision is needed. This study aimed to analyze the effect of clinical supervision training for head nurses on staff nurses’ perceived knowledge and compliance regarding the Safewards model at Hospital X and Y. This study used a quasi-experimental design with pre-post tests in intervention and control groups. The study was conducted from January 10 to February 19, 2026. Clinical supervision training was provided to 12 head nurses, while clinical supervision implementation involved 60 staff nurses. Standardized questionnaires were used to measure perceived knowledge and compliance. The results showed that most respondents were Diploma III nursing graduates with more than 15 years of work experience and categorized as PK III. There was an increase in head nurses’ knowledge regarding clinical supervision after training, as well as improvements in staff nurses’ perceived knowledge and compliance regarding the Safewards model after clinical supervision. Significant differences were found in perceived knowledge (p-value = 0.009) and compliance (p-value = 0.005) before and after the intervention. Clinical supervision training for head nurses significantly influenced perceived knowledge and compliance (p-value = 0.001). Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a global health problem that requires effective blood glucose control strategies, one of which is through the inhibition of the α-amylase enzyme to prevent postprandial hyperglycemia. This study aimed to analyze the effect of varying ethanol concentrations (50%, 70%, 96%) as a solvent on the extraction efficiency of bioactive compounds from basil leaves and their α-amylase enzyme inhibitory activity. Extraction was carried out using the maceration method, and the obtained extracts were analyzed for total phenolic content (TPC) using the Folin-Ciocalteu method, total flavonoid content (TFC) with AlCl₃ reagent, and α-amylase inhibitory activity using the iodine method. The results showed that ethanol concentration significantly influenced all tested parameters. The 70% ethanol extract yielded the highest TPC (108.441 ± 0.495 mg GAE/g), the highest TFC (70.535 ± 0.393 mg QE/g), and the strongest α-amylase inhibitory activity (IC₅₀ 49.255 µg/mL). A strong positive correlation was observed between the increase in phenolic and flavonoid compound levels and the enhancement of enzyme inhibitory activity. These results indicate that 70% ethanol is the optimal solvent for extracting antidiabetic compounds from basil leaves, which function by inhibiting key carbohydrate-digesting enzymes. The resulting basil leaf extract has the potential to be developed as an adjuvant therapeutic agent for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus cases increased significantly in the 15-54 age group, according to doctors' diagnoses. Diabetes Mellitus in this age range causes a variety of risk factors that might lead to early symptoms of mental health disorders, such as irritability, anxiety, fatigue, and fear. The presence of early symptoms of mental health disorders can have a negative impact on the quality of life of productive-age people with Diabetes Mellitus, including decreased concentration and work productivity, a considerable deterioration in body function, and a drop in social functioning. This study aimed to explore and understand in-depth experiences of mental health disorders in the productive age group with Diabetes Mellitus. This study employed a phenomenological approach. Six participants (two men and four women) who had been diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus by a doctor served as informants for the research. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using thematic analysis with NVivo 12 software. The findings of this study reveal major mental health issues in the form of psychological symptoms (stress and anxiety) during Diabetes Mellitus diagnosis and treatment. In conclusion, people with diabetes mellitus in the productive age group exhibit significant symptoms of mental health issues such as stress, ineffective coping, and anxiety, which means that a diagnosis is required to ensure appropriate mental health interventions. Keywords: productive age group; mental health issues; diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Nurses’ compliance with patient safety practices, particularly fall prevention, is a critical indicator of healthcare quality. Elevated mental workload may impair concentration and negatively affect nurses’ performance in implementing safety procedures. This study aimed to examine the relationship between mental workload and nurses’ compliance with fall prevention measures. A mixed-methods design with a concurrent triangulation approach was employed. Quantitative data were collected using a cross-sectional design involving 47 nurses selected through total sampling. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with six nurses to explore their perceptions of workload and compliance. The quantitative findings revealed that Mental Demand (p = 0.001), Frustration Level (p = 0.029), and overall Mental Workload (p = 0.003) were significantly associated with nurses’ compliance in fall prevention. These results suggest that increased mental workload may affect the consistency of nurses in adhering to safety procedures. Qualitative findings indicated that nurses perceived their workload as complex, encompassing both cognitive and physical demands. High task demands, time pressure, and multiple responsibilities were identified as key challenges influencing their ability to maintain compliance. Conclusion: Nurses’ compliance is shaped by the complexity of mental workload and requires effective workload management. Organizational support, appropriate task allocation, and a supportive work environment are essential to enhance compliance and ensure patient safetyKeywords: mental workload; nurse compliance; patient safety; fall prevention

Abstract

Patient satisfaction is a critical indicator of service quality in primary health‑care settings and plays an essential role in strengthening the effectiveness of the national health‑insurance program. Physical facilities, service reliability, staff responsiveness, and professional assurance are widely recognized as core determinants of patient experience. This study was conducted to analyze the level of satisfaction among national health‑insurance users at the Bane Primary Health‑Care Center in Pematangsiantar in 2024 across four dimensions of service quality. The study employed a quantitative cross‑sectional design involving 98 respondents selected using the Slovin formula. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed descriptively. The results show varying levels of satisfaction across the four dimensions. Satisfaction was highest for reliability (70.4%) and responsiveness (65.8%), indicating that patients generally perceived the services as accurate, consistent, and delivered with adequate promptness. Tangible aspects also contributed positively, with 61.2% of patients expressing satisfaction, although limitations in physical facilities and equipment remained evident. Assurance demonstrated the lowest satisfaction level (47.1%), reflecting concerns about staff competence, communication clarity, and the ability to instill confidence. In conclusion, the findings highlight the need to strengthen physical infrastructure and enhance professional assurance while maintaining reliable and responsive service delivery. Improving these dimensions may contribute to higher patient satisfaction and support the overall effectiveness of the national health‑insurance system. Keywords: patient satisfaction; tangible; reliability; responsiveness; assurance; primary health care

Abstract

Body image perception and eating-related behaviors play an important role in determining adolescents’ nutritional status. This study aimed to examine the association between body image perception, eating behavior, dietary patterns, and nutritional status among adolescent girls using a cross-sectional research design. A total of 80 adolescent girls were recruited in August 2024. Data were collected using the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire–Appearance Scale (MBSRQ-AS) to assess body image perception, a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) to evaluate dietary patterns, and the Eating Behavior Pattern Questionnaire (EBPQ) to measure eating behavior. Nutritional status was determined using Body Mass Index (BMI). Data were analyzed using chi-square tests with contingency coefficient analysis. The results showed that negative body image perception was significantly associated with underweight nutritional status (p=0.006; C=0.335). Adolescents with healthy eating behavior were more likely to have normal nutritional status compared to those with poor eating behavior (p=0.012; C=0.316). Dietary patterns were not significantly associated with nutritional status (p=0.108; C=0.229). In conclusion, body image perception and eating behavior were significantly associated with nutritional status among adolescent girls, whereas dietary patterns showed no significant association. Keywords: body image perception; eating behavior; dietary patterns; nutritional status; adolescent girls
