Abstract

Cardiovascular and periodontal diseases are common inflammatory conditions in the human population. Tlymphocytesparticipateinthepathogenesis and inflammatory events of atherosclerosis. These immune cells enter theinflamed artery wall and join macrophages via a number of interferon-c-inducible chemokines. Chemokines (IL-8),cytokines, and growth factors also participate in this process. The interaction between interleukin- 8 and its receptor,CXCR2, can also contribute to lesion formation in mice. The main causes of aggressive periodontitis isActinobacillusactinomycetemcomitans. Previous studies have proven that adhesin protein with 24 kDa molecular weight from A.actinomycetemcomitans is a specific adhesin, this adhesin proteins play a role in the adhesion process on host. thiskind adhesion in the epithelial attachment would lead to colonization and invasion ofA.actinomycetemcomitans thatwill stimulate the host immune response. This study aimed to analyze the influence of induction 24 kDaA.actinomycetemcomitans adhesin protein to the titre of IL-8 in heart of Wistar rat with aggressive periodontitis usingElisa method to measure and analyze the titre of IL-8. After analyzed with analysis of variance, showed significantdifferences of IL-8 titre in the control group and the group with the induction byA.actinomycetemcomitans,A.actinomycetemcomitans plus 24 kDa A.actinomycetemcomitans adhesin protein, and only with 24 kDaA.actinomycetemcomitans adhesin protein. It can be concluded that A.actinomycetemcomitans adhesin protein with 24kDa molecular weight has a role in increasing of IL-8 titre in heart wistar rat with aggressive periodontitis.

Abstract

Peritonsillar abcess is a infection of head and neck commonly seen. This infection is caused by infection organismesuch as Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A Beta-Hemolitik streptococcus), Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilusinfluenzae, Fusobacterium, Prevotella, Porphyromonas, and Peptostreptococcus spp. by the spreading of anaeroborganism to one of loose aerolar space around pharynx and cause the abcess and penentrate to the tonsillar capsulebut which is still in pharynx constrictor muscles boundary. This paper reports a male of 36 years old patient withchief complaint of ulcer on the hard palate accompanied with tonsillar swelling that made difficulty in swallowing. The diagnosis was ulceration due to peritonsillar abcess rupture. Amoxycyllin antibiotic, and benzydamine HClgargle was precribed to cure the ulcers.

Abstract

A radiculer cyst is an odontogenic cyst which most frequentlyencounterd. Usually these cysts grew up around the tip oftooth root. They had arisen resulting from an inflammatoryprocess and generally started by a presence of granuloma. Awell of radiculer cyst consisted of stratified squamousepithelium. In the initial stadium, these cyst do not give thesymptoms. They are often discovered incidentally in theradiographic examination ofnon vital tooth root. Nevertheless, these cyst can grow to become greater progressivelly, so thatleading to facial deformity. If bone layers have flattened, would be encountered a ping pong ball phenomenon andthere have been a fluctuation and the treatment was done byenukleation technique.

Abstract

Negative impact of poor oral health on quality of life in the elderly is an important public health problem. Around theworld, poor oral health in the elderly seemed to edentulous, dental caries and periodontal disease. It was reported astrong correlation between the number of teeth lost by a score of OHIP-14. This study aimed to determine the relationshipof oral health and quality of life of the elderly in District of Malili, East Luwu. Pathfinder pilot survey-based studyconducted in 15 villages in that district on 10-12 November 2011. The subjects were elderly people who come to thevillage hall, which is guided by a questionnaire interviewed and met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that theelderly average index of DMF-T at 11.11, which indicated that the oral health status was significantly positivelycorrelated with quality of life (OHIP-14), with a correlation value of 0.170. It was concluded that the higher the valueof DMF-T, the more affect the quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract

The success of dental implant installment is determined by the condition of alveolar bone itself. Although there is nolegal research of the dental implant treatment failure in Indonesia, but there are some reports which state that thereis a lot of dental implant treatment failure happened which caused by the lack of appraisal of the quality andquantity of the alveolar bone image which is accurate and optimal in the usement of radioghraphy units. But as thetime goes, the public needed of dental implant treatment begins increased. The purpose of this paper is to introducethe CT-Scan with Hounsfield Unit sofe ware as a screener to patients for dental implant placement with value bonemineral density (BMD). The measurement of BMD on alveolar bone before surgery for dental implant installmentmust describe local condition and then compared the size with the diameter of dental implant. From the discussion,it can be concluded that with using the CT-Scan, somebody can be stated get requirement or not for dental implantplacement.

Abstract

Tooth decay is a serious problem in health of tooth and oral inIndonesia with finite prevalence up to 90.05% mainly at school age ofchildren. Tooth decay can be caused by various factors, such asmicroorganism, food, tooth, saliva, and time, and supported by variousother factors like race, age, gender, and genes. Children's dental cariesis frequently caused by the habit to consume food cariogenic whichdoes not only affect tooth but also the nutrition status of child. The aim of this analytic observational study was to know the prevalenceof tooth decay, nutrition status, and the relation of dental caries andnutrition status at school age child ( 0.05 . This study involved 180samples (60 samples from SD Athirah, SDN 1 Bawakaraeng, and SDN3 Bangkala respectively). These three elementary schools in wereselected based on their socio-economic status. SD Athirah representsthe high socio economic status, SDN 1 Bawakaraeng the middle socioeconomicstatus, and SDN 3 Bangkala the lowest status. Dental cariesstatus was investigated with DMF-T index and nutrition status with BM/Aindex. Data were analyzed using chi-square test. Results of the studywere as follows from the three schools, only SD Athirah shows relationbetween dental caries and nutrition status with its significance value0.009 (p<0.05). no significance relation between dental caries andnutrition status at SDN 1 Bawakaraeng with p=0.536 (p>0.05). Thesimilar relation was found at SDN 3 Bangkala with p= 0.926 (p>0.05).

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of cavum oris to spectrum pattern of voice frequency on the clinicalimplementation of pronouncing 7 words in a list of Indonesian words by 9 and 12 year-old children in Angle Class Imalocclusion with crowding variation. Analytical epidemiologic study with cross sectional design was performed in onetime measurement on the subject. The research subjects were 24 Javanese boys, who used standard and correct BahasaIndonesia. They were divided into two age-based groups: 12 children of 9 years old and 12 children of 12 years old. Thesetwo groups pronounced the seven words in the list which have frequency in their dominant sounds on Angle class Imalocclusion with crowding variation. They are /produktif/, /mushola/, /rupiah/, /identifikasi/, /yodium/, /hinggap/, and/hujan/. The sound was directly recorded in sound-proof room employing sound recorder program, flat microphone and sound processing mixer. Then the dominant sound frequency was measuredtogether with spectrum patterns of voicefrequency display by usingCoolEdit Pro 2.0andExcel software. Theresults showedcavumoris volume of 9-year-old malechildren is smaller than that of 12-year-old children. The spectrum pattern of voice frequency of the 7 words showed thatthe pattern and frequency chart equations of the 9 year-olds are of a lower amplitude and thinner pattern than those ofthe 12-year olds.

Abstract

Anxiety is a psychological and physiological condition which signed by emotion, cognitive, and someone’s behavioral component. Anxiety behavior has long been recognized as the most difficult aspect in the management of patients and may frustrate a dental treatment that will be carried out, especially in children ages 6-12 years. Fear of treatment tooth extraction and local anesthesia is the main reason for kids disliking dental care. This type of research is observational analytic with nonprobability sampling technique, because this study used a population of pediatric patients who visited the location of the research that has been determined. Total sample of this research are 30 people who fulfill the criteria. The sample consist of 16 boys and 14 girls with age range of 6 to 12 years old. The level of anxiety before and after tooth extraction assessed using Facial Image Scale (FIS). Facial Image Scale (FIS) has five criteria which describe the level of anxiety in children, very happy by point 1, happy by point 2, normal by point 3, unhappy by point 4, and very unhappy by point 5. The results of the analysis of differences in anxiety with FIS measurement tools show there are differences in the level of anxiety in children before and after tooth loss based on the location of the jaw, the type of anesthesia applied topically, gender, and overall. Overall, there is a difference in children before and after tooth loss and the difference is significant

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the lowest cytotoxicity of three endodonticsealers, Apexit Plus, AH Plus and Endomethasone that can be used safely. The crownof 30 intact lower premolars were removed at cementodentinal juntion and the teethwere prepared with crown down technique with # 20 initial file and # 30 masterapical file. After sterilization, the 30 teeth were randomly divided into three groupsand filled with gutta percha using laterally condensation technique and Apexit Plus,AH Plus, and Endomethasone as sealers. Apex of the roots was dipped 1.5 mm intoculture medium for 24 hours in incubator (root dipping technique). The mediumcontact was transformed into confluent chicken fibroblast. Cytotoxicity ofEndomethasone, AH Plus, and Apexit Plus were measured with hemocytometer assay. The results showed that percentage survived cells of Apexit Plus was 68%,Endomethasone 66.42%, and AH Plus 64%. The amount of exist cells were ApexitPlus>Endomethasone>AH Plus. There was no significant difference of cytotoxicityamong the sealers (P>0.05). The conclusion was the amount of exist cells were morethan 50% which means that the three root canal sealers were not toxic.

Abstract

Objective : Determination of the vertical dimension of occlusion (DVO) tends to changes throughout the human life. The vertical dimension is determined by the interocclusal point of the upper and lower teeth contact so the application is limited when the natural teeth was missing. As the result, many functional and aesthetic changes are occurred in the whole orofacial region and stomatognathic system. DVO is one of the difficult stages in prosthodontic treatment. Most of the techniques to determine DVO in edentulous patients are based on the soft tissue references, which can cause the different measurements. Cephalometric analysis allows the evaluation of bone growth changes and can be used as a diagnostic tool in prosthodontics to evaluate the results of prosthodontic rehabilitation. Methods : The purpose of this case report was to find out the results of the vertical dimension of occlusion measurements in maxillomandibular relation by using cephalometric photo in patients who have been long lost their teeth and have never been using denture. Results : A 50 year old female patient, partially edentulous on the upper and lower jaw with the remaining teeth were 12 (residual root), 11,21,23,33 and 43. The remaining teeth were endodontically treated prior the complete denture procedure. Cephalometric photo was done in patients after making bite rim, upper and lower bite rim were given metal marker, the image was traced, then measured between metal to get the vertical dimension of occlusion. Conclusion : The measurement results of the vertical dimension of occlusion by using cephalometric photo on making full denture were more accurate, so it could improve and restore the masticatory function, aesthetic function and phonetics.
