Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of mixing technique of dental impression materials to lineardimension stability on stone cast. Fifteen stone cast formed of pouring alginat impression material (Hydrogum 5,Zhermack) obtained from maxillary typodont (Frasaco, Italy) as master model containing four metal pillars in squarelocated in area of second premolar teeth (left and right), and two in the second molar area (left and right). Mixingtechniques were done manually and mechanically (full dan semi automatic) and by pouring with dental stone type IV(Prostone-21, BMP Formula). The results are depicted of 5 models for each mixing techniques. Measurements weremade in four parameters (ac, bd, a1b1 and c1d1) of 8 reference points on metal pillars. For this study data wasanalyzed using one-way Anova statistical test with level of significance at p <0.05 and processed with SPSS v.17. Ofthe four parameters measurement on each model, there was statistically significant processed differences of 3parameters (ac, a1b1 and c1d1), whereas one parameter (bd) had no statistically significant differences (p = 0.375). Itwas concluded that the mixing technique of fully automatic mixer shows better results in terms of dimensional stabilitycompared to the manual mixing technique and semi automatic mixer.

Abstract

Every tribe and race has size of tooth mesiodistal and cervicoincisal different from each other. The most obviousdifference is the size of the teeth between female and male. This study aimed to determine differences in size ofmesiodistal and cervicoincisal maxillary central incisors between male and female of Buginese, Makassarese andTorajanese. The sample consisted of 30 Buginese, 30 Makassarese, and 30 Torajanese aged frem 18-25 years-old.After impression of the upper and lower jaw was taken, and size of mesiodistal and cervicoincisal tooth weremeasured. After the data were analyzed by t-test and ANOVA test, it appears that males have a larger size thanfemales. Makassarese has the longest mesiodistal size (8.41 mm), Buginese has the longest cervicoincisal size (9.83mm), whereas Torajanese has the smallest size of mesiodistal and cervicoincisal among the other tribes. It was concluded that the average sizes of mesiodistal and cervicoincisal of maxillary central incisors showed no significantdifference. While there are significant differences in the average size of the mesiodistal and cervicoincisal maxillarycentral incisors between the males and females, and based on tribe lines.

Abstract

The influence of strawberries as bleaching alternative material toward surfacemicrohardness of the teeth is still unknown so that a research should be conducted toquantitatively assess the effects of bleaching with 10% carbamide peroxide andblended strawberry paste on post-extracted incisive teeth by performing superficialmicrohardness analysis. Three groups of sample i.e. group 1 (control): post-extractedincisive teeth soaked in ordinary mineral water, group 2: soaked in carbamideperoxide 10% gel, and group 3: soaked in 100% strawberry paste. The microhardessof each sample group is tested before and after the application of bleaching materials. The result was there was significant difference of strawberry paste compared to CP10% gel and mineral water soaked incisive teeth. The data obtained are tabulated, then analyzed with one way Anova and LSD. It can be concluded that the applicationof carbamide peroxide 10% gel in 6 weeks doesn’t decrease the microhardness ofteeth enamel surface. However, the application of strawberry paste decreases themicrohardness of enamel surface

Abstract

Irrigation of root canal is an essential part that supports the success of root canaltreatment as it removes necrotic tissues, microorganisms and dentin chips frominfected root canal through flushing of irrigants. Despite its usefulness as anantimicrobial agent, irrigants are also toxic that can cause irritations wheninadvertently forced into the periapical tissue. The choice of irrigants needs goodknowledge of irrigants’ characteristics, undertsanding an appropriate technique ofirrigation, and type of microorganisms involved in root canal infection that supportthe effectiveness of irrigants. This paper is aimed to discuss the characteristics ofsome irrigants commonly used in root canal treatment and also to present the resultsobtained from some clinical investigations.

Abstract

Vitality of the pulp is a major key for the tooth to physiologically functioning in the mouth. Exposed pulp can be saved by pulp capping treatment diminishing the need for more complicated treatment such as root canal treatment or extraction. To induce tissue repair essentials factors must be considered namely proper case selection, method, material, adequate isolation and techniques. This literature review will discuss relevant issues and matters on pulp capping treatment based on evidence and findings from previous studies to achieve more predictable outcome of pulp capping treatment.

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of dentofacial deformities in an Indonesian cohortcompared with a Dutch cohort and to study the anthropological aspects of dentofacial deformities. The Indonesiancohort included 36 male and 50 female patients from Bandung. The Dutch cohort included 1,003 male and 1,623female patients from Amsterdam. The majority of the Indonesian cohort was less than 30 years old (93%)comparedwith 61.5% of the Dutch cohort. The age distribution of 31-40 years consisted of more Dutch than Indonesian patients(p<0.01). Mandibular prognathism with an open bite was the most prevalent deformity (46.5%) among the Indonesiancohort with a mean age of 22.78 (SD;6.34). Mandibular deficiency was the least prevalent deformity (2.3%) with amean age of 31 (SD;12.73). In contrast, mandibular deficiency with a normal or low mandibular plane angle was themost prevalent deformity (55.9%)among the Dutch cohort with a mean age of 30.48 (SD;1075)and mandibularprognathism with an open bite was the least prevalent deformity (3.3%) with a mean age of 22.49 (SD;6.20). Comparedto the Dutch population, the Indonesian population consisted of more mandibular prognathism (p<0.01) and lessmandibular deficiency (p<0.01). In the Indonesian cohort, young patients seek orthognathic surgery most frequently tocorrect a functional problem associated with mandibular prognathism with an open bite. It was concluded that thegreatest severity of dentofacial deformities that are observed in Southeast Asian patients.
