Abstract

Introduction: Patients with diabetes mellitus continue to face difficulties in performing self-care management based on the information they receive. Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) can serve as a reference for health education programs to improve patients’ knowledge and self-care management skills. This study aimed to analyze the effect of DSME on self-care management among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental two-group pre–posttest control design. The sample was 102 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus selected using simple random sampling. The instrument utilized was the Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale (DMSES). Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon test and multivariate ANOVA. Results: The results of the multivariate analysis showed a p-value < 0.001, indicating that Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) had a significant effect on self-care management, including dietary patterns (R² = 0.313), physical activity (R² = 0.737), blood glucose monitoring (R² = 0.430), foot care (R² = 0.427), and medication adherence (R² = 0.349) among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Physical activity demonstrated the most significant effect attributable to DSME. Conclusion: Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) effectively improves self-care management in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, with the greatest impact on physical activity. These findings support DSME as an evidence-based strategy to promote independent self-care and as a standard operating protocol in Gedangan Community Health Center.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting among children under five years old remains a critical public health issue in Indonesia, with long-term consequences for cognitive development, physical growth, and future productivity. Addressing this challenge requires strong community engagement, particularly in rural areas with limited access to health services. This study employed a qualitative design, using semi-structured interviews with village officials, nutrition officers, posyandu cadres, and mothers of children under five in Ngijo Village, Indonesia. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke’s framework to explore stakeholder roles, implementation challenges, and expectations regarding stunting prevention and potential digital nutrition tools in Ngijo Village. Methods: A qualitative design was employed through semi-structured interviews with village officials, nutrition officers, posyandu cadres, and mothers of children under the age of five. Results: Thematic analysis was conducted to identify strategies, challenges, and expectations for digital nutrition applications. Findings revealed that prevention efforts included nutrition education, routine anthropometric monitoring, and supplementary feeding using local resources. Challenges involved limited digital literacy, resistance to counseling, and irregular posyandu cadre. Conclusion: Mothers often accessed nutrition information via YouTube and TikTok, highlighting opportunities for user-friendly digital tools. Strengthening cadre training and integrating digital applications may enhance the sustainability and replication of stunting prevention in rural contexts.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a growing public health problem, including among adolescents, due to unhealthy lifestyle changes and high levels of psychosocial stress. Preventing DM in adolescents requires a comprehensive approach that integrates nutritional knowledge, stress management, and mental health. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of a combined intervention of mindfulness therapy and nutrition education on increasing knowledge, changing attitudes, reducing anxiety levels, and improving blood sugar levels in adolescents in Palu City. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group approach. The sample consisted of 60 adolescents aged 15–19 years who were divided into a treatment group (n=30) and a control group (n=30). The treatment group received 8 weeks of mindfulness therapy intervention accompanied by nutrition education, while the control group did not receive mindfulness intervention. Data were collected using knowledge and attitude questionnaires, the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HARS) instrument, and blood sugar level measurements. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test and paired t-test with a significance level of 0.05. Results: Results: Based on the data distribution, the analysis was conducted using the Paired t-test (parametric) and the Wilcoxon test (non-parametric) at ?=0.05. Statistically, there was a significant increase in knowledge (33.3% to 96.6%) and positive attitude (6.7% to 53.3%), as well as a significant change in anxiety levels, namely a decrease in the severe category (33.3% to 10%) and an increase in the normal category (26.6% to 60%). In addition, the proportion of normal blood sugar levels increased from 56.6% to 76.6%, with all changes being statistically significant (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The combined intervention of mindfulness therapy and nutrition education effectively improved knowledge and attitudes, reduced anxiety levels, and improved physiological parameters in adolescents in the prevention of diabetes mellitus. This integrative approach has the potential to become a holistic and sustainable strategy for the promotion and prevention of DM in school-based adolescents.
