Abstract

Introduction: Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) has emerged as a significant public health issue due to its status as the primary cause of illness and death among children under the age of 5. Methods: This study analyses the association between exposure of cooking fuel and risk factors for acute respiratory infection symptoms in children under 5 years of age. A cross-sectional approach using the 2017 Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey data. The data were analysed using logistic regression. Results: Results of the study show that among 5473 households, 26% of children under 5 years old experience symptoms of ARI. In the final result of the multivariate analysis, cooking fuel was not significantly associated with ARI. ARI was significantly associated with poor wealth index (aOR = 0,9; CI 95% = 0,73?1,01) and unimproved drinking water sources (aOR = 1,3; CI 95% =1,03-1,52). Conclusion: This study is expected to be a consideration for the government to immediately intervene for households with insufficient living habits and poor household sanitation. Also, increasing family awareness related to the risk of ARI in children under 5 years old.

Abstract

Background: Overweight and obesity are accumulations of excess fat (globally, regionally, and in organs as ectopic lipids) increasing the risk of health impacts. In Indonesia, childhood obesity has a high prevalence rate. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health. The number of children aged 5-12 years experiencing overweight problems is 18.8% which consists of the category of fat 10.8% and obesity by 8.8%. Methods: This study is a research with intervention, quasi-experimental research design, to distinguish high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels before and after receiving treatment in two groups, namely the control group (the group that did not receive treatment), and the intervention group (the group that performed aerobic exercise). Result: With dietary and aerobic interventions for 4 weeks, no statistically significant differences were found, although the mean hsCRP levels of the subjects decreased from 2.8 to 2.2 mg/l. The results of non-parametric statistical tests with man whitney test obtained (?> 0.05), namely (? = 0.346) indicating that there is no significant effect between aerobic exercise on hsCRP levels in the treatment group and control group with a value of (? = 0.24) before and after aerobic exercise. Conclution: Based on the results of research and discussion, it can be concluded that aerobic exercise can provide sufficient changes to reduce hsCRP levels in obese significantly, although the results of statistical analysis do not provide significant changes. Food recall does not have an impact on sufficient change, but if control and dietary interventions are applied it will provide significant changes, this can be seen in the results of different calorie consumption levels.

Abstract

Introduction: The delay in burns healing is a serious complication that can lead to disability and death. TGF-?1 contributes significantly to the wound healing process. Chronic wounds that do not heal often indicate a loss of TGF-?1 signaling. Propolis and coconut shell liquid smoke (CS-LS) are natural ingredients that contain antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic compounds to accelerate wound healing. This study aimed to prove the effectiveness of using a topical combination of propolis and CS-LS in accelerating the healing process of degree II burns and their relationship with the expression of TGF-?1 in serum. Method: A 14-day in vivo experimental investigation using Wistar rats was carried out with a total sample of 25 rats divided into 4 groups.; Group 1, treated with sulfadiazine ointment; Group 2, treated with propolis ointment; Group 3, treated with CS-LS ointment; Group 4, treated with the combination of propolis and CS-LS ointment, and 1 control group without treatment. Serum TGF-?1 levels were determined by ELISA. Result: Measurements of wound size were on days 0,3,7 and 14. This study obtained results the combination ointment group alone had significantly different TGF-?1 levels from day 7 to day 14 and experienced a decrease in TGF-?1 levels of 52.28 ?/mg. Based on wound size, there was a significant difference in all groups (p<0.05), this was supported by the mean value of wound size which was smaller in the sulfadiazine ointment group and the combination (propolis and liquid smoke) ointment group. Conclusion: The combination of propolis and coconut shell liquid smoke can be considered as an alternative in the treatment of second degree burns because of its ability to reduce TGF-?1 and accelerate burn wound healing. Abstract

Introduction: Nutritional status is an indicator of body condition that is influenced by diet and nutrient utilization. Poor nutrient intake in adolescent girls has the potential to cause anemia where women are more susceptible to micronutrient deficiencies. WHO reports that 30% of women aged 15-49 years are anemic, with the highest prevalence in adolescents 15-19 years. The problem of anemia in adolescent girls has not been resolved, with low adherence to iron supplementation programs and poor nutritional knowledge. Methods: This study used a systematic literature review following the PRISMA method. Data were searched in several sources, including Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar, with the keywords “Nutritional status of adolescent girls” and “Anemia in adolescent girls.” The search process started in October 2024, focusing on relevant literature on nutritional status and anemia in adolescent girls and resulted in 20 articles used in this study. Results: Based on the articles that have been extracted and analyzed, 5 research articles showed an association between nutritional status and the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls, and 6 other articles stated that there was no association between nutritional status and the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls. Conclusion: The incidence of anemia in adolescent girls is generally caused by iron deficiency, due to irregular eating patterns, and consumption of junk food. In addition, it can also be caused by lack of knowledge, parents' income, mother's education, protein intake, vitamin C intake, breakfast habits, genetic factors, history of infectious diseases, and menstrual conditions. Abstract

Introduction: Mental health is a crucial human right, especially for adolescents. The WHO states that more than 50% of mental disorders appear by the age of 14, yet often go undetected, negatively impacting education and socialization. RISKESDAS 2013-2018 showed an increase in mental emotional disorders in 15 years old and above from 6.0% to 9.8%. Surveillance of child and adolescent mental health is critical, requiring awareness and resource allocation. Schools, as the closest environment, play a role in early detection of mental disorders and should increase knowledge about mental health to reduce stigma. This increased knowledge is essential for adolescents to overcome mental health problems and maintain a better quality of life. Methods: This study used a systematic literature review approach by following the PRISMA method. Data searches were conducted in October 2024 through various sources such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, with the keywords “Mental Health Knowledge” and “Adolescent Mental Health”. So that a total of 20 articles were eligible for use in this study. Results: The 20 articles showed that interventions such as socialization and school health efforts significantly improved adolescents' knowledge about mental health. Conclusion: A significant increase in adolescents' knowledge related to mental health was made after the provision of interventions or treatments such as socialization, school health efforts and exposure related to mental health in adolescents. This is known based on the increase in scores on the adolescent post-test. KEYWORDS: Mental Health Knowledge; Adolescent Mental Health;

Abstract

Introduction: Burns are among the most common types of injuries that occur in daily life, whether at home, school, or in the surrounding environment. The mortality and morbidity rates due to burns in developing countries are estimated to be approximately 11.6 per 100,000 population. These injuries most frequently occur at home, school, or the workplace, with children and adolescents being the most vulnerable groups to burn injuries resulting from daily activities. Objective: This study aims to analyze the factors that most significantly influence adolescents’ ability to provide first aid for burns at Muhammadiyah 8 Junior High School Surakarta. Method: The research design employed was logistic regression. A total of 100 respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique, and the data were analyzed using logistic regression tests. Results: The majority of respondents were aged 11–14 years (46%), with 54% having a junior high school education. A total of 70 respondents (70%) obtained information from social media or the internet, 44 respondents (47%) had good knowledge, and 73 respondents (73%) had previously experienced burn injuries. In addition, 42 respondents (42%) administered first aid using running water, and 66 respondents (66%) were capable of providing burn first aid. The logistic regression test results showed that the source of information produced a p-value of 0.035 with an OR of 1.929 and a 95% CI of 1.048–3.551, indicating that the source of information was the most influential factor on the ability to perform burn first aid. Conclusion: Adolescents’ ability to perform burn first aid is influenced by several factors, including age, educational level, sources of information, knowledge level, history of burn injuries, and frequency of first aid practices. Among these, the source of information was identified as the most important factor enhancing adolescents’ ability to provide burn first aid. Adolescents with access to reliable sources of information, such as materials developed by healthcare professionals, school modules, or formal education, are more likely to acquire the ability to administer burn first aid earlier compared to those without such access.
