Abstract

Abstract- Bandung has revitalisation plans stretching throughout the city to promote “smart” and “sustainable” living. One of these projects falls on jl. Braga revitalisation project that has shown significant difference in outlook and in visitor count. The popularity of the street may in return cause discomfort for visitors, as the space allowance per person becomes smaller. This assumption has already been made by Carmona (2003) where he stated that “an unfriendly environment’s pedestrian flow may be increased significantly if the space becomes more pedestrian friendly”. The aim of this study is to evaluate the physical changes made by the revitalisation process in correlation to overcrowding. The discussion will begin by identifying elements withing the street that cause obstructions (obstacles), and a simulation of the circulation space acquired by the obstacle (or the activity it generates) is made in order to calculate the resultant circulation space and measure its overcrowding level. Overall, results show the overcrowding level of the street is constrained and congested. Witihin six out of seven obstructions analysed, it is proved that overcrowding is caused by the acquisition of space of obstacles, whether by itself or by the activities it generates.  Key Words: obstacle, obstruction, overcrowding, jl. Abstract

Abstract- In the early stage of the scenario realization has been done improvements in the alun alun area, also Jl. Jend. Sudirman. In the year 2016 carried out revitalization pedestrian paths on block Jl. Jend. Sudirman. Revitalization of pedestrian paths is preferred because pedestrian paths are the most basic public spaces to facilitate the movement of pedestrians from one place to another. However, the activity on this relatively new pedestrian path affects other names with existing building frontages.By qualitative method, this research read the pattern of dissemination of activity and condition of frontage of building on research object. This is done to determine whether the frontage of buildings and activities in the outer space have a relationship with each other. From this study found that the activity is not only influenced by the nature and material frontage of the building, but there is also a typology of space formed by the frontage of the building. Typology of space is closely related to the activities that occur in outer space.                 Key Words: Frontage, Active Frontage, City Furniture, Building Functions, Activities, Outer Space.

Abstract

Abstract- Containers have a lifetime, so afterwards abandoned. The use of used containers as buildings has grown and become popular in some countries. Containers have fixed length, width and height. The use of containers as a hotel function requires adjustment of size and material. This research will analyze how far the fixed container structure is used in the Chara Hotel, adapters of fixed containers with the space requirements in them and the effect of container material on human psychology.Research is reviewed in quantitative (size) and qualitative (psychological effects). The research will be done by looking how far the container structure is used in the building. Analysis of how closely the relationship between the structure of the container and the rigid frame with the bedroom and corridor architecture is in terms of room size and space quality. The size of the contianer dimension can be put to good use as a function of the bedroom. Structural containers and rigid frame structures is a frame structures and architectural structures. The length and height of the corridor are good, the width of the corridor is less wide. The function of the space of the container structure and the rigid frame to space is good because the structure does not impede function and circulation. Key Words: container structure, rigid frame structure, space quantity, space quality

Abstract

Abstract- Daylight performance in patient room is very important. Which in this research, daylight performance is measured by its distribution, daylight factor and glare precaution. Those elements are calculated according to lighting standard for the hospital building and how the performance adapt to patient's visual comfort. Therefore window design is needed to be considered as its affected to daylight performance inside the room. The object observation shows a result of the contradiction between each combination of window design and room plan. This research evaluates how window design affects the performance of natural lighting and analyze which window design suitable for each room plans, and also the alternative design that will be more suitable for some rooms’ plan and condition. This research is conducted by explanatory method, with quantitative and qualitative approach. Velux visualizer software is used to simulate how natural light is distributed to the inpatient room. Obtained data shows that natural lighting performance in RSIA Melinda inpatient room is still below the determined standard. And noticed that room orientation, window position and dimension, exterior exsiting conditions are factors that affected the daylight performance. The design recommendations are sun shading and glazing material.  Design recommendations are given to the majority room type and also in consideration of the design applicable possibility. Key Words: window design, daylight, inpatient room, spatial arrangement

Abstract

Abstract- Lighting (daylight and artificial) for office is meant for work performance and comfort. The main purpose is to make the task easily identified. Illumination level and glare are indicators for visual performance. PPAG office at Parahyangan Catholic University is now used to accommodate administrative activities by technic faculty’s staffs. PPAG office has some physical conditions that affecting its visual performance. Room and furniture layout, light source position and transparent façade affect the illuminance level on the task, and may cause direct and indirect glare from the sun and lamp. This evaluative research is using comparative method, by comparing on-site data with literatures; and explorative-descriptive to analyze data: exploring impact and causes that being explained descriptively. Illumination level measurement was done digitally using dialux evo to get a precise and quicker result, and sun glare possibilities are assessed by studying the horizontal sun shading effectiveness.Research concludes that visual performance in PPAG office is less than optimal, where 77,9% illumination level at its visual task are measured to be less than its standard, some sun glare at east and west zones, and indirect glare from reflected light on the desk in cubicle room. Therefore it could be optimalized by correcting the furniture layout, rezoning, and adding some shading elements. Key Words: lighting, visual performance, PPAG office at Unpar

Abstract

Abstract- Lawang Sewu is a historic cultural heritage building that became one of the leading tourist attractions in Semarang City. The building that was built in 1904 and completed in 1918 has experienced some changes in function and ownership. Lawang Sewu was originally the administrative office of Nederlands-Indische Spoorweg Maatschappij (NIS). NIS is a private company engaged in the field of railways. Lawang Sewu also witnessed the 5 days battle in Semarang that occurred on 14 to19 August 1949. It was marked by the location of Tugu Muda Monument located on the west side of Lawang Sewu. Apart from the historical side, spatial relationships between Lawang Sewu and Tugu Muda Monument in the area, making the building of the former NIS office is significant. Architecturally, the significance can be explained in the context of the monumentality of the building. The Monumentality of Lawang Sewu is explained gradually from several aspects. First, an architectural object can be monumental seen from the link between architecture and monument. Second, the historical and cultural dynamics attached to the building. Third, the building relationship with the surrounding environment and its architectural character. Referring to the concept of architectural monumentality enclosed by Yoshinobu Ashihara and Louis Kahn, monumentality is described based on the image of the singularity of buildings that arise from its relationship with the surrounding environment and the quality of the atmosphere of space formed from building elements. As an architectural object, Lawang Sewu has the required value in the definition of monuments and monumental properties. These values include aspects of history, technology, architecture, and culture. Not only has monumental values, Lawang Sewu also experienced the dynamics of changing the meaning of monuments as described in the Nine Points on Monumentality. In addition, Lawang Sewu is a building inherent in the collective memory of society. This is evidenced from the name Lawang Sewu which is actually a nickname. In the architectural context, Lawang Sewu is able to show the monumental value of its unique impression on Tugu Muda Monument Area. Then, both the architectural elements and the structures seen in the atmosphere of space in Lawang Sewu able to convey the image of a certain period. Elements of buildings with economic value and high technological updates also form the value of Lawang Sewu monumentality. Key Words: significance, monumentality, history, culture, Lawang Sewu, railway

Abstract

Abstract- The growth of globalization is a worldwide phenomenon that is unavoidable and its impact affects a lot of fields, including architecture. Non-local elements, like modernism, that penetrate Indonesia’s culture cause a competition against the local architecture including traditional values, which are reduced due to modernization. Combining modern and local architecture can be seen as an effort to conserve traditional values and answer to the era’s challenge at the same time through the application of modernization. The aim of this research is to understand the meaning of acculturation in architecture, discover which acculturation that occurs in Selasar Sunaryo Art Space architecture and discover what domination that exists in Selasar Sunaryo Art Space’s architecture. Study of synthesis of architecture in Selasar Sunaryo Art Space is done by doing firstly a survey to gain object data, undertake an interview with the architect and client to gain the architectural concept of the object, and re-model the object in 3D. Literature is also done to gain theories about acculturation in architecture, building anatomy theory to describe the study object, also Sundanese and modern architecture theories. Afterwards, the object is analyzed by the said theories and interpreted referring to literature. The result of this research shows that modern architecture dominates Selasar Sunaryo’s architecture, especially in it’s body, floor, structure, and ‘s shape. Synthesis of architecture can be seen from the landscape design and roof design. Overall, Selasar Sunaryo’s architecture is dominated by modern structure and arrangements, although there are several adaptations to the building’s climate context and application of Sundanese architecture concepts to its buildings.Hopefully this thesis would be beneficial to practitioners, academics, and people in general as a contribution to expand the knowledge of local and non-local architecture synthesis, also as a contribution of knowledge that is beneficial within designing process or of continuation of the research. Key Words: acculturation, architecture, modern, Sundanese

Abstract

Abstract- A mosque is a religious place for followers of Islam all over the world, as well in Indonesia, which is the country with the largest number of Muslims society in the world. Thus will affect the high needs of Muslims society for the mosque architecture building that used to perform rituals of worship activity. In this modern era, the shape and style of mosque architecture gets more diverse because of the influence of construction technology. In addition, the diversity is also due to the absence of concrete provisions that discuss the form and style of architecture in the Alquran. The diversity in the form and style of mosque architecture will result in different architectural expression for mosque building. Due to these phenomena, many people are questioning the proper mosque’s form.Masjid Islamic Centre Tulang Bawang Barat (Tubaba) is one of the mosques that meets the object research’s criteria because it doesn’t have universal mosque’s form that generally uses dome. Mosque as a sacred building requires a clear symbolization of the physical elements of the mosque building. This symbolization can be described in the form of activities, such as pray. Undertaken activities will result in spatial space analysis of the mosque which can then be reviewed by the theory of form and meaning. The research was done by applying the theory of anatomy and scope of the building. Furthermore, a review based on the theory of form and meaning is done to see if Masjid Tubaba’s building meets the criteria of symbolization of activities that will result in spatial space of the mosque. As a result, this research will obtained a new standard on the spatial space of the mosque resulting from the symbolization of ritual activities. Key Words: mosque, expression, spatial space, symbolization, ritual activity

Abstract

Abstract- In the course of the development of Islam since the time of the Prophet Muhammad until now, the strategic position of the mosque is not only as a place of worship but also as the center of Islamic Introduction. As we know that establishing a mosque is a culture that has been rooted in the life of Muslim society. The founding principle of the mosque comes from the teachings contained in the Qur'an and Hadith. However, the two sources did not disclose and include the building and physical codes of the mosque. All of it is left to the people to design their own buildings and physical mosque in accordance with the conditions of the local community. The mosque in Indonesia is developed into two forms, the first being a form influenced by the local culture. The second is a form influenced by middle eastern culture. Then, a mosque with a different shape from the two previously described forms began to appear. One of the mosques is the Jami'e Darussalam, the mosque which became the object of research. The study was conducted based on a preliminary study conducted by studying the theory of space perception put forward by Bert Bielefeld and the theory of space perception in the mosque. From the existing theory can then be formulated an indicator of the perception of space needed in a mosque. Existing indicators are then used to research buildings with a focus on the perception of space. The result of object study analysis then further be processed through the analysis table so that it can be inferred the space forming element that influence the human perception on the mosque. From the research, it is found that the perception of space needed in a mosque is only in the prayer room of Jami'e Darussalam Mosque, but not in other spaces. This is because the character of different space-forming elements in each space. The benefit of this research for the general public is to increase knowledge about the perception of space needed in a mosque and how the perception of space can be realized. Meanwhile, for the architects and mosque institutions, this research can add knowledge about the perception of space in a mosque and how to design the elements of space to be able to realize the perception of space. Key Words: elements of space formation, perception of space, mosque
