Abstract

The importance of organizational culture in the operation and performance of businesses has been widely acknowledged, but there is inconsistency in findings about the impact of culture on organizational performance across studies. This study aimed to achieve two objectives: first, to establish the relationship between the quality of accounting information systems (AIS), organizational culture, and the financial performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam; and second, to survey the organizational culture strategy of Vietnamese SMEs in the context of economic crises. The study survey was conducted in May 2023 and involved 242 SMEs in Vietnam. The research model was tested using Smart PLS. The results suggest that AIS has a positive relationship with both organizational culture and the financial performance of SMEs. However, organizational culture only affects financial performance related to organizational adaptability during a crisis. Moreover, a flexible, external adaptation, and balanced cultural approach strategy has a significant impact on the financial performance of SMEs. During a crisis, managers expect employees to adapt in order to achieve strategic goals and plans while simultaneously balancing stability, engagement, and employee satisfaction to achieve organizational effectiveness. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-015 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Purpose: The study aimed to determine the influence of factors on job satisfaction and the relationship between satisfaction, organizational culture, and the organizational commitment of lecturers at universities in Ho Chi Minh City. Design/Methodology/Approach: This was a quantitative study in which the authors compile theories, analyze and synthesize scales for research concepts, and propose research models. The online survey collected 532 answer sheets from professors and lecturers from universities in Ho Chi Minh City, of which 525 were valid and included in SmartPLS 3 to evaluate the validity and reliability of the scale and to analyze the relationship among the concepts in the suggested model. Findings: The results show that several factors significantly impact employee satisfaction in the field of education, such as job promotion, leadership or supervision, working environment, income, and the job itself. In addition, both satisfaction and organizational culture impact organizational commitment. The study's findings have implications for educational institutions, lecturers, policymakers, researchers, and funding agencies. They highlight the importance of factors like leadership development and organizational culture in enhancing job satisfaction and commitment among lecturers, offering valuable insights for improving the educational environment in Ho Chi Minh City and beyond. Originality: The results aligned with previous studies presented in the literature section. However, this study revealed some specific characteristics of lecturers in universities in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where lecturers focused on personal development but were committed to the organization via job satisfaction and culture. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-SIED2-021 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

This study aims to investigate and determine the trend and extent of the impact of a company's liquidity and efficiency on profitability. Research data is collected on the audited financial statements of Vietnam's top 100 listed companies. Regression models (pooled OLS, FEM, and REM) and necessary tests are used to select the appropriate analysis model. Model defects are overcome by GLS regression. The research results confirm the strong, positive impact of liquidity, company efficiency, and company growth rate on profitability. In addition, the research results also demonstrate a significant negative impact between financial leverage and profitability. This article is the first study to simultaneously address the effects of liquidity and corporate efficiency on profitability. Furthermore, it is the first empirical study applying GLS regression to analyze the impact of liquidity and corporate efficiency on the top 100 listed companies in the Vietnamese market. This market provides an ideal analytical framework because of its heterogeneity in terms of its history of origin and development and its political, cultural, social, and governance characteristics. To make the research results more general, future studies can expand the scope of the survey to all companies listed on the stock market. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2024-08-01-013 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

The localization accuracy of a fingerprint-based localization system is dependent on several factors, one of which is the accuracy and efficiency at which the fingerprint database is clustered. Most highly efficient and accurate clustering algorithms have high time-dependent computational complexity (CC), which tends to limit their practical applicability. A technique that has yet to be explored is the sequential hybridization of multiple low-time CC clustering algorithms to produce a single moderate-time CC clustering algorithm with high localization accuracy. As a result, this paper proposes a clustering algorithm with a moderate time CC that is based on the sequential hybridization of the closest access point (CAP) and improved k-means clustering algorithms. The performance of the proposed sequential hybrid clustering algorithm is determined and compared to the modified affinity propagation clustering (m-APC), fuzzy c-mean (FCM), and 2-CAP algorithms presented in earlier research works using four experimentally generated and publicly available fingerprint databases. The performance metrics considered for the comparisons are the position root mean square error (RMSE) and clustering time based on big O notation. The simulation results show that the proposed sequential hybrid clustering algorithm has improved localization accuracy with position RMSEs of about 54%, 77%, and 52%, respectively, higher than those of the m-APC, FCM, and 2-CAP algorithms. In terms of clustering time, it is 99% and 79% faster than the m-APC and FCM algorithms, respectively, but 90% slower than the 2-CAP algorithm. The results have shown that it is possible to develop a clustering algorithm that has a moderate clustering time with very high localization accuracy through sequential hybridization of multiple clustering algorithms that have a low clustering time with poor localization accuracy. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2024-08-02-02 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Reverse logistics has received a lot of attention due to the negative impact it has on the environment and the growing demand for green products. This especially occurred in the fast-moving consumer goods retail sector due to recalls and waste management. This sector significantly contributes to the gross domestic product growth of all countries. This has therefore led to the growing significance of reverse logistics since the fast-moving consumer goods retail sector cannot avoid reverse logistics. The primary objective of this study was for fast-moving consumer goods retailers to prioritize critical success factors for reverse logistics as a source of competitive advantage in the fast-moving consumer goods retailers’ sector. This is because it is essential for the fast-moving consumer goods retail sector to implement critical success factors in reverse logistics that can lead to firm competitiveness. The study employed a positivist research philosophy, where data were collected from 418 fast-moving consumer goods retailers and consumers via SurveyMonkey using two close-ended questionnaires. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences and the Analysis of Moment Structures software version 27 were employed to analyze the data. The results offer insight into the critical success factors in reverse logistics that should be carried out to achieve firm competitiveness. Through the implementation of critical success factors, this sector will achieve several goals, such as meeting environmental protocols, decreasing operational costs, cultivating the cumulative value of the brand, and improving customer satisfaction. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2024-08-02-018 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Biochar is a value-added product that can be used for many purposes, particularly for environmental and agricultural purposes. In this study, pyrolysis at 450–500 °C was used to upgrade urban waste such as disposable bamboo chopsticks (DBCs) into biochar. The properties of DBC biochar were analyzed, and the biochar was subsequently used to cultivate Romaine lettuce to assess its potential as a soil amendment. Its properties, including specific surface area (SSA), pore size, pore volume, pH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), contents of carbon (C), hydrogen (H), nitrogen (N), oxygen (O), macronutrient content, and the atomic ratio of H/C, O/C, (O+N)/C, and C/N, were analyzed. The experimental pots consisted of four treatments, each with ten replicates: unamended soil (TC), soil amended with 10% (w/w) vermicompost (TV), soil amended with 10% vermicompost mixed with 1.5% biochar (TVB1.5), and soil amended with 10% vermicompost mixed with 2.5% biochar (TVB2.5). Fundamental physicochemical soil properties and plant yield (plant height, leaf width, number of leaves, and fresh weight) were investigated. The results indicated that the DBC biochar was neutral (pH 6.80) and had a high CEC (10.86 cmol/kg), 66.80% C, 3.76% H, 25.93% O, and 0.61% N. It had mesopores (39.077 Å), a large SSA (0.542 m2/g), and a pore volume of 0.005 cc/g. The biochar exhibited high aromaticity and hydrophobicity. Based on these results, the DBC biochar has the potential to be used as a soil amendment: it significantly enhances soil quality and increases plant yields. The application of 2.5% biochar resulted in the highest yield. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2024-08-03-07 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Sustainability is defined as socio-economic accomplishment without compromising the natural environment. The objective of the research is to assess the role of the government in driving sustainability as explained in the UN Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). The research used content analysis and survey methods to understand the critical role of the government in achieving sustainable development and the perceptions of Saudi Arabian residents in this regard. The findings of the content analysis showed that the role of government at all levels is important to achieving sustainable development. The survey results also support the findings of the content analysis and show that the government's role in attaining sustainability is significant. All the variables of sustainability about government role proved to be very important. The research provided appropriate policy and practical implementation to facilitate the achievement of sustainability. The policy implications are that the government at all levels needs to ensure appropriate laws, regulations, codes, and the adoption of those rules to drive sustainable development. They also ensure that they have allocated resources to achieve sustainable development. In practical terms, the government should devise strategies for all levels of government to drive sustainable development. It should also set up participatory frameworks to ensure increased public involvement in urban planning and introduce education and public campaigns. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2024-08-03-023 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

The objective of the study is to clarify that the family participated in COVID-19 as a home-schooling family. The sample was selected according to the geographical distribution of schools in the eastern region of Khartoum. Data was collected through a questionnaire and interviews. The most important result is that there is an increasing interest from parents to support home-schooling despite the challenges of continuing learning, such as the widening digital divide in technology, previous experience, and poor network connectivity. This research paper focused on the point of view of parents in the city of Khartoum on supporting home-schooling according to social variables related to both mother and father, and the paper concluded that parents of students in private schools are more supportive of home education. Also, most of the parents of students who support home-schooling have reached their university level of education and post-university and belong to the youth age group. Although parents emphasize the importance of home-schooling during the COVID-19 infection, there are challenges associated with providing home-schooling for their children. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-05-021 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

This study analyzes specialized national and international legal acts and standards that enjoy national and international recognition and are relevant to ensuring the appropriate quality of higher legal education in Kazakhstan. Applying methods of logical and legal analysis, a global approach to comparing the practices of legal education within the country and abroad, the authors offer specific recommendations for improving specific standards of Kazakh legislation on education, namely, the adoption of the draft law “On Higher Education” in the republic; the introduction of the Socratic method in the lecture and educational process, creative vacations as a special type of professional development at law faculties of universities; the use of digital artificial intelligence tools at all stages of law students’ education; providing more practical training; and significant restructuring of the knowledge verification system in exams. It is concluded that improving the quality of legal education is necessary for training highly qualified lawyers for legal practice, and lawyers with an anti-corruption legal consciousness. The novelty of this study is determined by its unique thematic focus, since it concerns an unexplored domain of specialized legal norms in the legal education sector of Kazakhstan. In addition, this study is novel as it is the first study in the history of the Republic in terms of improving higher legal education with the help of legislative and international legal norms. The practical significance of this study lies in the regulations and practices proposed for implementation. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2024-08-04-09 Full Text: PDF
