Abstract

Many companies are utilizing short-form video platforms to enhance the value co-creation between brands and consumers and ultimately create brand equity. However, there is a research gap in the present literature regarding the significance of consumers' participation in short-form video platforms affecting corporate brand equity. The present study aims to address this research gap by incorporating value co-creation theory to investigate the role and mechanism of value co-creation generated by consumer participation in short-form video platforms, i.e., corporate-initiated value co-creation and customer-initiated value co-creation, on corporate brand equity. The current study used a survey methodology to collect 481 samples from TikTok users using a convenience sampling method. The present study used structural equation modeling on the collected data. The findings show that corporate-initiated value co-creation can positively influence corporate brand equity, in which brand experience plays a partially mediating role. Customer-initiated value co-creation can also promote brand equity, whose role is also partially mediated by brand experience. This study theoretically contributes to the value co-creation concept and its theoretical association with brand equity and brand experience. Abstract

Imbalanced learning problems are a challenge faced by classifiers when data samples have an unbalanced distribution among classes. The Synthetic Minority Over-Sampling Technique (SMOTE) is one of the most well-known data pre-processing methods. Problems that arise when oversampling with SMOTE are the phenomenon of noise, small disjunct samples, and overfitting due to a high imbalance ratio in a dataset. A high level of imbalance ratio and low variance conditions cause the results of synthetic data generation to be collected in narrow areas and conflicting regions among classes and make them susceptible to overfitting during the learning process by machine learning methods. Therefore, this research proposes a combination between Radius-SMOTE and Bagging Algorithm called the IRS-BAG Model. For each sub-sample generated by bootstrapping, oversampling was done using Radius SMOTE. Oversampling on the sub-sample was likely to overcome overfitting problems that might occur. Experiments were carried out by comparing the performance of the IRS-BAG model with various previous oversampling methods using the imbalanced public dataset. Abstract

The double exponentially weighted moving average (DEWMA) control chart, an extension of the EWMA control chart, is a useful statistical process control tool for detecting small shift sizes in the mean of processes with either independent or autocorrelated observations. In this study, we derived explicit formulas to compute the average run length (ARL) for a moving average of order q (MA(q)) process with exponential white noise running on a DEWMA control chart and verified their accuracy by comparison with the numerical integral equation (NIE) method. The results for both were in good agreement with the actual ARL. To investigate the efficiency of the proposed procedure on the DEWMA control chart, a performance comparison between it and the standard and modified EWMA control charts was also conducted to determine which provided the smallest out-of-control ARL value for several scenarios involving MA(q) processes. It was found that the DEWMA control chart provided the lowest out-of-control ARL for all cases of varying the exponential smoothing parameter and shift size values. To illustrate the efficacy of the proposed methodology, the presented approach was applied to datasets of the prices of several major industrial commodities in Thailand. Abstract

Ocular IPL therapy has recently been widely used for MGD, especially for patients not showing improvement with traditional therapies (warm compresses and lid scrubs) to clean debris and reduce bacterial overgrowth. Insights on the ocular microbiome and quantitative microbiome in MGD after a course of IPL could provide useful data on bacterial community monitoring and associated mechanisms linked with IPL. Ocular swabs were obtained from a severe MGD patient and age-sex matched healthy for metagenomics, followed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and qPCR. Of 10 samples, including left and right eyes (el, er) of severe MGD females before (Db) and after 2-4 IPLs (Da2, Da3, and Da4) and the matched non-MGD females (H), both of ~40 years Using 16S rRNA gene sequencing as microbiota and combined 16S rRNA gene qPCR as quantitative microbiota revealed significant disperse in the microbiome structures of Db compared with Da and H (HOMOVA, p<0.001). Bacterial Propionibacterium acnes and unclassified taxa in the family Propionibacteriaceae and order Actinomycetales represented the core Db microbiota and were reduced after 2-4 IPLs in Da, making the Da microbiome and clinical (mucocutaneous junction, corneal, and conjunctival fluorescein score) closer to H (NMDS with Pearson’s correlation, p<0.05). The recovery of the Da microbiome also allowed Da metabolic potentials to be closer to H. Our findings first demonstrated the ocular microbiome dysbiosis in severe MGD, dispersed from Da and H, in Thai subjects, correlated with bacterial quantity and clinical MGD, including the mucocutaneous junction process. Abstract

Performance audits (PA) are becoming essential in supreme audit institutions (SAIs). This study aims to explain why developing countries need to expand the function of PA and to explore and measure the impact of each factor on the need to develop PA in Vietnam. The research combines qualitative (group discussion) and quantitative methods by surveying 157 state auditors of the State Audit of Vietnam (SAV). Data is processed through SmartPLS 4.0.8.5 to verify the measurement and linear structure models. The results of the statistical analysis also show that all three factors have an impact on the development of PA, including (i) the degree of public governance reform, (ii) the accountability of SAV, and (iii) occupational influence. Besides, the model test results show that, from the perspective of SAV, the need to improve performance is higher than accountability. Public governance reform factors, external support, and SAI accountability contribute to enhancing the value of PA. The findings of this study complement the audit theory on three fronts: (i) PA will become more important when pursuing the goal of increasing accountability rather than improving performance; (ii) PA continues to evolve to adapt to social changes; and (iii) additional empirical evidence demonstrating that countries with low levels of transparency and accountability and inconsistent legal systems have higher audit “demand” but low supply of PA. This study proposes a PA development model to: (i) forecast the ability and level of the development audit of each SAI; and (ii) contribute to enhancing the value of PA using the PA topic selection tool. In addition, the developed scale is tested to ensure its reliability and validity. Abstract

This study focuses on the cutting-edge field of epidemic modeling, providing a comprehensive investigation of a third-order two-stage numerical approach combined with neural network simulations for the SEIR (Susceptible-Exposed-Infectious-Removed) epidemic model. An explicit numerical scheme is proposed in this work for dealing with both linear and nonlinear boundary value problems. The scheme is built on two grid points, or two time levels, and is third-order. The main advantage of the scheme is its order of accuracy in two stages. Third-order precision is not only not provided by most existing explicit numerical approaches in two phases, but it also necessitates the computation of an additional derivative of the dependent variable. The proposed scheme's consistency and stability are also examined and presented. Nonlinear SEIR (susceptible-exposed-infected-recovered) models are used to implement the scheme. The scheme is compared with the non-standard finite difference and forward Euler methods that are already in use. The graph shows that the plan is more accurate than non-standard finite difference and forward Euler methods that are already in use. The solution obtained is then looked at through the lens of the neural network. The neural network is trained using an optimization approach known as the Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation (LMB) algorithm. The mean square error across the total number of iterations, error histograms, and regression plots are the various graphs that can be created from this process. This work conducts thorough evaluations to not only identify the strengths and weaknesses of the suggested approach but also to examine its implications for public health intervention. The results of this study make a valuable contribution to the continuously developing field of epidemic modeling. Abstract

The concept of project success has evolved from the perspective of conforming to the project triangle to that of benefiting the environment, and then from the perspective of the following generation. Scientists increasingly assert that successful projects require a set of criteria that include such item(s) as future potential. The meaning of project success varies depending on where it is executed. The purpose of this study is to identify whether projects with future potential have a certain effect on indicators of the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) of the Republic of Kazakhstan (RK) and what other success criteria are inherent in such projects. By using the method of descriptive analysis of data collected from 107 experts and analyzing 19 influential projects, the study revealed that projects oriented towards the future have a significant impact on the indicators of the GCI in the RK. This finding confirms the necessity of considering the long-term sustainability and social significance of projects when assessing their successes. Additionally, a specific combination of success criteria that contributes most to this impact was identified. Abstract

Several studies on air-cooled battery thermal management systems (BTMSs) have shown that improvement can be achieved through redesign of the BTMSs. Recent studies have achieved improvements in managing the temperature in the system, but mostly with an increase in pressure drop. It is therefore imperative to carry out an extended study or redesign of the existing designs to overcome these challenges. In this work, a standard Z-type BTMS, which has a flat divergence plenum, was redesigned to have a step-like divergence plenum of variable step height. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) approach was adopted to investigate the thermal and airflow performance of the BTMSs. The CFD methodology was validated by comparing its results with experimental data in the literature. Various step height configurations were considered for 3-step and 4-step models. Findings from the result revealed that the variable step height design enhances the cooling performance of the battery pack. For instance, a 3-step model with step heights of 3, 6, and 6 mm offered the least pressure drop and maximum temperature difference, and when compared with the model with a constant step height of 5, 5, and 5 mm, it yielded reductions of 3.4% and 21.6%, respectively. By increasing the inlet airflow velocity, the 4-step cases generally improved. The best cooling improvement was seen in case 26 at velocities over 3.7 m/s for maximum temperature and velocities over 4.8 m/s for maximum temperature difference. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2024-08-03-01 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Welfare technology has made a significant impact on society, supporting people´s communication, independence, and day-to-day living. This study aims to investigate university students' knowledge of welfare technologies related to smart active aging. The research was guided by the following questions: 1: What do Slovak university students know about welfare technologies? 2: How are welfare technologies used in the households of university students and their relatives? An online interview survey with reflexive thematic analysis was conducted with 120 university students at two universities in Slovakia. Findings show four themes that were identified: (1) Different interpretations of welfare technologies. (2) Broadening students’ knowledge about welfare smart technologies. (3) Attitudes towards smart and welfare technologies. (4) Gap in practical usage of welfare technologies. Welfare technology is a new topic connected to active aging. Primarily, the younger generation, as proved, has low knowledge on this theme. The novelty of the study lies in connecting the welfare technology concept with the education of the younger generation. Welfare technologies have the potential to promote positive intergenerational relationships, autonomy, and mental and physical well-being among older adults. As for improvements, smart active aging and welfare technology concepts should be incorporated more intensively into higher education. Abstract

During operation, brake lining material rubs against the disc to generate heat. This heat could decrease the brake lining performance, such as the friction coefficient, specific wear rate, and interface temperature of the rubbing surfaces. The resulting wear debris is environmentally harmful and poses risks to human health. Therefore, this study aimed to replace the harmful material using eggshell particles as a filler in brake lining composite and enhance tribological properties. The brake lining samples were manufactured through three stages: cold compaction, hot compaction, and post-curing. The next step is the samples were subjected to a one-hour high-temperature exposure at 200°C, 300°C, 400°C, and 500°C. The results showed that the high-temperature exposure significantly affected the specific wear rate, friction coefficient, and interface temperature between the brake lining and disc. An interesting finding was that adding calcined eggshell particles in composite could improve the tribological properties up to 400°C.
