Abstract

One of the main success drivers of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is the integration of information technology and industry, which encourages innovation through collaboration between industry and academia. As a result, fostering innovative behaviour among undergraduates is essential for success in higher education throughout this revolution. The purpose of this study is to examine the direct effects of capability (leadership, technological literacy, interaction, knowledge sharing, and collaboration) on innovative behaviour and the indirect effect of knowledge integration's mediating role. Data from 3,230 undergraduates was collected and analysed. The provided hypotheses were validated using structural equation modelling, which demonstrated that capability significantly influenced the success of adopting innovative behaviour. Furthermore, we observed that knowledge sharing was the most powerful predictor. We also discovered that the intervening knowledge integration had an indirect effect, indicating the presence of a relationship between capability and innovative behaviour through this variable. When the direct and indirect effects were evaluated, the direct effect was substantially stronger than the indirect effect. The study's practical implications should focus strongly on promoting innovative behaviour and knowledge integration in the process of establishing appropriate educational programmes for universities. Furthermore, universities should develop strategies to encourage undergraduate students to share their knowledge and abilities with others since this improves performance and increases awareness of new prospects for innovation. Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a worldwide healthcare crisis. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have recently been used with encouraging results to help detect COVID-19 from chest X-ray images. However, to generalize well to unseen data, CNNs require large labeled datasets. Due to the lack of publicly available COVID-19 datasets, most CNNs apply various data augmentation techniques during training. However, there has not been a thorough statistical analysis of how data augmentation operations affect classification performance for COVID-19 detection. In this study, a fractional factorial experimental design is used to examine the impact of basic augmentation methods on COVID-19 detection. The latter enables identifying which particular data augmentation techniques and interactions have a statistically significant impact on the classification performance, whether positively or negatively. Using the CoroNet architecture and two publicly available COVID-19 datasets, the most common basic augmentation methods in the literature are evaluated. The results of the experiments demonstrate that the methods of zoom, range, and height shift positively impact the model's accuracy in dataset 1. The performance of dataset 2 is unaffected by any of the data augmentation operations. Additionally, a new state-of-the-art performance is achieved on both datasets by training CoroNet with the ideal data augmentation values found using the experimental design. Specifically, in dataset 1, 97% accuracy, 93% precision, and 97.7% recall were attained, while in dataset 2, 97% accuracy, 97% precision, and 97.6% recall were achieved. Abstract

The objective of this research is to consolidate the literature published on the COVID-19 crisis impact on global stock markets to gain managerial implications from the crisis. It performs a thematic bibliometric review of the literature published in Scopus-ranked journals since the beginning of the pandemic using FCWI, Piecharts, and VOSViewer. It identifies the most under-researched regions and eight emerging sub-themes. The research finds that the benchmark theme is market behavior during the COVID-19 crisis, whereas an emerging benchmark theme is the markets after the COVID-19 crisis. The holistic view of the literature supporting eight sub-themes suggests that the government's role is of utmost importance to handle the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, which should be industry-specific. Abstract

Globalization has opened the avenues for the world to come together and attain sustainable growth. Migrant workers are a lifeline for several countries' labour forces and productivity. However, in Thailand, the rights of these migrants are restricted due to the non-ratification of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of Migrant Workers and Family Members (ICRMW). This research explores and analyzes various factors essentially responsible for the ratification of ICRMW in Thailand. The methodology adopted is the mixed method. The collected data were analyzed based on a socio-legal approach, with qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques combined: the strength, weakness, opportunity, and threats (SWOT) technique was integrated into the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) (SWOT-AHP). The findings suggest that Thailand has not yet ratified the ICRMW conventions, including ILO C-87 and ILO C-98, thus depriving migrant workers of protection. They are not protected by national law and are not entitled to equal protection as nationals: for instance, foreign workers are forbidden from migrating to the established labour unions and enjoying medical benefits and salaries. All these must be consistent with the conventions, particularly the Labor Protection Act, B.E. 2541 (1998) and the Labor Relations Act B.E. 2518 (1998). The novelty of this research is the analysis of the domestic and international laws in the Thai context, which depicts the need for ratification of ICRMW to protect migrant workers and their families. Abstract

Online learning is recognized as an effective teaching method and tool, widely integrated into different teaching and learning strategies to provide quality education at different levels. However, the field of design education does not have extensive research into online learning, delivery, and assessment. This study developed an online learning model for design disciplines to improve creative work effectively. This paper describes an empirical study to test the BEE model outcomes developed following previous research. This present study has focused on the intensity of the live virtual classroom in every step to compare differences in the scores of creative works. Therefore, the assumption was that Thai undergraduate design students who learned with the BEE model through live classroom learning (experimental group) would have at least one element of the creative work scores compared to the group learning through the traditional online teaching method (control group). Furthermore, we conducted a multistage randomized sample of 66 participants, divided into an experimental group of 33 participants and a control group of 33 subjects. To compare the scores of creative works, the test of creative works assessment rubric was used to collect the data. Then, they were analyzed using the MANOVA statistical test. Abstract

Many contact tracing solutions developed by countries around the globe in containing the Covid-19 pandemic are in the area of location-based tracing, which does not enable them to identify close contacts accurately. As location-based tracing implementations continuous on, the results have not been as effective as intended. Thus, in providing some closure, this study will dissect the need for close contact tracing solutions for the pandemic by providing a comprehensive contact tracing characteristic framework (CCTCF) for Covid-19, which will help authorities toward better pandemic management. In this study, CCTCF for Covid-19 was constructed by applying several methods. Using Problem, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome (PICO) as the framework, methods conducted were: (1) Case study to analyze the contact tracing systems in 30 countries; (2) Systematic literature review (n=2056) regarding solutions' elements, (3) Thematic analysis for characteristics framework development. A total of 25 items were obtained for CCTCF, along with valuable insights that necessitate close contact tracing for the pandemic. Results from CCTCF have also shown that the best contact tracing solution for Covid-19 is bi-directional human-to-human close contact tracing, which uses a retrospective approach and is able to identify the source as well as groups of infection using a personal area network (PAN). Doi: 10.28991/esj-2022-SPER-019 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, teleworking has proven to be an effective countermeasure to overcome the spread of this disease while enabling businesses to continue. However, little is known about the extent of their adjustment to daily life routine, interaction among self-control, assignments, family life matters, and coordination with colleagues. This study explores the impact of motivational factors on the performance of teleworkers. An exploratory study was conducted using an in-depth interview with 27 interviewees who work in Thailand and have more than a year of experience switching between being a teleworker and working on-site. The NVivo and SPSS software were performed to reveal deeper data insights and apply non-parametric tests in order to compare findings with various demographic profiles. The findings revealed that environment, time management, and reward are the strongest motivational factors, whereas labour intensity and job security present the weakest relationships with teleworkers' performance. Numerous implications and strategies to enhance their performance for both organizations and workers are provided. Firms can support a well-prepared environment and manage the flexibility of working time to increase employees' effectiveness. Abstract

Students have always been looking for the best colleges or universities to continue their studies. These prospective students will try to find references by having one of them seek information from students who are currently at or have studied at the intended college or university. One of the factors they asked about was learning satisfaction at the intended college or university. Student learning satisfaction depends on several variables: student motivation, student responsibility, student courage in learning, and the lecturer's teaching performance. Based on this, the present research aimed to examine the four variables that have influence on student learning satisfaction, individually and in a group. The research used a quantitative approach and was conducted on students and lecturers at the Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, one of the state universities in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan Province in Indonesia. The sample consisted of 83 participants, was studied using a descriptive correlational research model, and was drawn using a simple random sampling technique. Data were obtained through questionnaires and document studies and then analyzed using a regression model using IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0. The findings revealed that student motivation, student responsibility, student courage in learning, and lecturer teaching performance positively and substantially affected student learning satisfaction at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, either partially or simultaneously. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-SIED2-04 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Objective: Learning to teach at the higher education level is not a straightforward path in Slovakia, and there are fewer opportunities to learn how to teach at this level. The paper summarizes selected findings and proposals for improvements related to the implementation of measures in selected areas of higher education institutions (HEI). The aim of the paper was to explore digital competency development in higher education institutions and factors with regard to university lecturers that affect the quality of the educational process in the context of the overall quality of graduates and labor market requirements. In addition, our study aims to fill an information gap and provide original data useful in the process of digital competency development in higher education. Methods/Analysis: The study employed an exploratory mixed-methods design. The data for this study is based on a survey with 24 open and closed questions and an analysis of 46 final thesis studies. Findings: Both the qualitative statements of the university lecturers and the survey shed light on the following: (1) (Re)creation of motivational factors; (2) Potential development of digital competencies; and (3) Supporting innovation in higher education. The results led to consideration of the educational process quality at the level of the subject and the object of education. Novelty/Improvement: The results point to the importance of investment in technology. This is related to improved educational outcomes and sustainable innovation in higher education. Abstract

Objectives: The banking sector has been impacted more negatively by the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, bank concentration and capitalization stabilize banking systems during times of crisis. This study evaluated the monthly financial reports of all commercial banks in Indonesia to investigate the joint impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and bank concentration on bank stability. Moreover, this study was conducted to determine whether adequate capitalization could enhance the positive effect of the interaction between COVID-19 and bank concentration during the pandemic. Methods/Analysis: Using 108 commercial banks between March 2020 and May 2021, data were analyzed using the fixed-effects estimator with heteroskedasticity and within-panel serial correlations for robust standard errors. Several robustness checks were performed to ensure that the results were accurate and consistent. Findings: Subsequently, the impact of the pandemic and bank concentration was determined to be significant and adverse, though their interplay was strong enough to promote bank stability. This highlights the importance of adequate capitalization in enhancing the beneficial effects of the interaction between COVID-19 and bank concentration on bank stability.
