Abstract

This paper proposes a fully automated vision-based system for real-time COVID-19 personal protective equipment detection and monitoring. Through this paper, we aim to enhance the capability of on-edge real-time face mask detection as well as improve social distancing monitoring from real-live digital videos. Using deep neural networks, researchers have developed a state-of-the-art object detector called "You Only Look Once Version Five" (YOLO5). On real images of people wearing COVID19 masks collected from Google Dataset Search, YOLOv5s, the smallest variant of the object detection model, is trained and implemented. It was found that the Yolov5s model is capable of extracting rich features from images and detecting the face mask with a high precision of better than 0.88 mAP_0.5. This model is combined with the Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise method in order to detect patterns in the data to monitor social distances between people. Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effect of mobile learning on students' achievement in the grammar of the Arabic language, and their attitude towards the use of mobile learning. Methods/Analysis: The study was conducted using a quasi-experimental design, case study. The sample comprised 170 students, divided into two groups: an experimental group (n = 87) and a control group (n = 83). An achievement test and a questionnaire were used to collect data, which was analyzed using SPSS. Findings: The findings revealed statistically significant differences between the two groups, with the experimental group showing better scholastic achievement on the test. The results also show that the students of the experimental group were more positive towards mobile learning. Novel contribution: The study recommends further studies on the use of mobile learning in universities and schools. Abstract

In the 21stcentury, the tragedy of the pandemic shocks the world. This non-natural disaster is called COVID-19. Its dominant effect is also worrying about social and economic conflicts at local, national, and even international levels. The orientation of this research is to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the socioeconomic aspects in Indonesia from 2020-2022. We set the research using official/secondary publications. Data analysis was interpreted in three formats: Pearson, Kendall's, and Spearman's correlations. It channelled empirical testing through Microsoft Excel and SPSS v.25. Social items include migration, mortality, domestic violence, and sexual harassment, while the nine economic items are per capita spending, well-being, unemployment, poverty, and labor productivity. Then, statistical instruments were reviewed based on the correlation coefficient and level of significance (5% for Pearson and 1% for Kendall's and Spearman's). The results are not much different between Pearson's approach, Kendall's and Spearman's. In Pearson model, it proved a negative correlation when COVID-19 increases, so migration, unemployment, poverty, and labor productivity decrease. COVID-19 has had a positive impact on mortality, domestic violence, sexual harassment, per capita spending, and well-being. In Kendall's and Spearman's tests, poverty and labor productivity have actually increased because of COVID-19. Implementing semi-lockdown is a priority so that the social and macroeconomic constellations continue without ignoring the latent dangers of COVID-19. Abstract

During the transition to the mixed education model during the Covid-19 pandemic, some issues have emerged in the matter of providing and supporting the quality of university education in all countries, including educational programs' relevance to the demands of the labor market, expectations of students and their families, digital transformation of the educational process, and economic stability of institution networks. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the quality of educational services in the higher education systems of Indonesia and Russia. The study systematized several essential factors for achieving educational service quality in the current higher education systems, given the limitations imposed by Covid-19. Following this objective, the study utilized a quantitative approach, adopting the SERVQUALmodel that measures the service quality across five service dimensions: tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. The model aided the development of the questionnaire to assess the quality of the educational services of Indonesian and Russian universities. The questionnaire included 25 close-ended questions on two scales: one to measure the students' expectations regarding the quality of educational services and the other to measure the students' current perceptions. A snowball technique was used to recruit students from Indonesian and Russian universities as participants in the study. The students were asked to assess the educational services of their universities based on their initial expectations and current perceptions. Overall, the students of both countries revealed that they had high expectations from the educational services of their universities. However, the current perceptions of the Russian students regarding the quality of educational services provided by their universities are higher and more positive than the perceptions of the Indonesian students regarding the quality of educational services being delivered to them. Abstract

Our research developed out of concerns about whether design students currently have enough creative imagination because of COVID-19, changing design studies to online learning. This paper describes an empirical study testing the effect of Blended Experiential Learning with e-Portfolios Learning on the Creative Imagination of design students to compare the differences in the effectiveness of design students' Creative Imagination scores. It was hypothesized that first-year design students learning through blended experiential learning with e-Portfolios would have higher Creative Imagination scores when compared to those in the control group learning by not following the format. The multistage sampling method was used to select the study population, and the sample consisted of 111 participants. The test was run in two steps, including 1) the try-out, conducted with the sample group of 45 participants using the Dependent T-Test to compare the pre-test and post-test Creative Imagination scores, and 2) the trial run, conducted with the sample group of 33 participants (learning by following the format), and the control group of 33 participants (learning by not following the format) to compare the Creative Imagination scores. MANOVA was then used to test whether at least one component of the creative imagination test scores of the experimental group was higher than the control group. Abstract

Objectives: To deal with the Covid-19 pandemic and its unpredictable variations, universities must develop many different response scenarios in which online teaching is considered a suitable, strategic, and long-term solution. Our study aims to investigate and determine the relationships between digital transformation, satisfaction, word-of-mouth communication, and students' intention to continue learning online in universities. Methods/Analysis: Our study uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to measure the interaction with data processing tools such as partial least squares SEM (PLS-SEM), Cronbach's Alpha coefficient, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and PLS Bootstrapping with descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings: The results show a positive interaction between students, faculty, and schools with digital transformation; between digital transformation and student satisfaction and word of mouth communication; between satisfaction with an expression of mouth communication and the intention to continue learning online; and between oral communication and a student's intention to continue learning online. Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of leadership, business motivation, and compensation during the Covid-19 pandemic on business existence. This study was conducted in a traditional market in Lubuklinggau City, South Sumatra, Indonesia, with a population of 120 respondents from 1200 micro-enterprises. The validity and reliability tests of 36 samples were conducted using SPSS statistics and inferential analysis using the Amos 8.8 Structural Equation Model (SEM). It was found that leadership has a significant effect on business existence by 0.83, compensation has an effect on business existence by 0.17, and business motivation also affects business existence by 0.24. An important finding from this study is that these three variables together affect the existence of businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the leadership factor of microbusiness actors is more dominant in influencing the business's existence. Implementing awareness-based health protocols will also have a positive impact on tackling the Covid-19 pandemic. Abstract

The inevitable transformations brought about by the rapidly changing Internet of Things (IoT) impact all aspects of life today, including management and businesses. Specifically, areas of businesses depending mainly on internal supply chain capacity are experiencing a paradigm shift to ensure effective company performance regarding purchases, production, company sales, and product distribution. This shift means that challenges faced by the internal chain supply unit can be solved by adopting and adapting IoT as a new way to minimize work delays and save time. Moreover, IoT automatically leads to performance and productivity increases. Therefore, the present paper aims to justify adopting and adapting IoT applications in Indonesian companies, including retail businesses. Most companies' internal supply chain units face several difficulties during and after the devastating peak of COVID-19, which has led to a total global lockdown. These problems' complexity is exponential and requires innovative ways to solve their prevailing challenges. This study used observation, interview, and documentary research methods through a large-scale survey. The survey obtained the necessary information regarding how companies utilize IoT to improve their performance and productivity without hindering their internal supply chain and production units. Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic has compelled countries to conduct contact tracing vigorously in order to curb the highly infectious virus from further spread. In this context, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) has been broadly used, utilizing Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) for Close Contact Identification (CCI). However, many of the available solutions are not able to adhere to the guidelines provided by Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention which are: (1) Distance requirement of within 6-feet (~2 meters) and (2) Minimum 15-minutes duration for CCI. In providing some closure to the gap, we proposed a novel approach of utilizing: (1) Low calibrated transmission power (Tx) and (2) Number of signal captures. Our proposed approach is to lowly calibrate Tx so that when distance is at 2 meters between users, number signal capture gets lower as the chipset's smallest RSSI sensitivity value has been reached. In this paper, complete experimentation for Proof of Concept (POC) and Pilot test conducted are demonstrated. Results obtained shows that the accuracy for POC utilizing signal captures for 2 0.3 m distance is at: (1) 71.43% for 5 users and (2) 70.69% for 9 users. Abstract

Advances in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as well as the present challenges of COVID-19 have led to a new paradigm causing an absolute or partial transition from in-person classroom teaching-learning to online. There is little information available on research efforts that investigated the impact of an online learning approach on the academic performance of students in mechanical engineering-based courses. Therefore, the objective of this paper is the impact study of online learning mode as compared to in-person on academic performance of students in selected mechanical engineering courses in one of the Universities in South Pacific Islands prior-to-and-during COVID-19 Era. Data on grades obtained for 178 students that offered Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, and Advanced Thermofluids (FTHA) courses were subjected to descriptive and non-parametric (Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis) statistical tests. Although descriptive analysis showed that online mode of instruction might influence a better academic performance in FTHA courses in comparison with in-person mode of instruction, the outcome of Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests at specific p-values and corresponding z-values generally exhibited p-values higher than of 0.05, implying insignificant difference in performance between the two modes of learning investigated. Though the non-parametric statistical test results showed there was no significant difference in academic performance of students when online and in-person modes of learning were used, this, however, does not imply that a difference does not exist at all. Although the difference may be very trivial, descriptive analysis has shown that the online learning mode has at least exhibited better students' academic performance when compared to in-person. It can be inferred from the foregoing that the online learning mode does not yield a negative response in respect of the performance of students who offered all four mechanical engineering courses. Based on the findings of this study, online is considered a reliable alternative to in-person or at least a suitable complement to in-person in the in-person-online hybrid mode during the ongoing COVID-19 era and other inevitable constraints in the future. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2022-SPER-017 Full Text: PDF
