Abstract

Aim of this assessment is to study the behavior of farmers in the application of  technology  and  to  analyze  irrigated  rice  paddy  both  input  and  output.  Studies carried  out  in the  center  of irrigated  lowland  rice  in  Nabire,  were  doing  the  paddy rice  farm  implement  at  least  two  years.  Primary  data  collection  random proportionally  in  the  form  of  a  survey  using  questionnaires  in  April  2015  from  the results of paddy rice cultivation MH (October/November 2014 and January/February 2015)  as  many  as  43  farmers  as  respondents.  Primary  data  includes  cultivation technology,  inputs  and  outputs.  All  data  were  tabulated  and  interprestation.  Data were analyze in descriptive and quantitive way. The result showed that responses of farmers in this area depend on how the technology can improve paddy’s productivity and  the  farmers  income.  The  dynamics  of  the  response  of  farmers  to  increase productivity  technology  is  relatively  stable,  especially  in  components  commonly applied  to  farmers  in  the  cultivation  of  paddy  (how  is  the  tillage,  weeding  and fertilizer application). Technology components that are sensitive to productivity and affect  the  income  of  such  varieties  and  fertilizers  used  almost  similar  to recommendation. Productivity produced 4.92 tonnes / ha dry milled grain with a profit rate of  Rp 11,588,600  million (B/C 1.89).  Furthermore, it is necessary to study  about the use of fertilizer, because fertilizer recommendation just based on Phoska forecasts. Moreover,  there  must  be  effort  to  convince  farmers  to  use  Legowo  technique  to improve  paddy’s  productivity.  Scarcity  of  labor  at  planting  and  harvest  need  to  be think in the future and also dissemination agricultural tools like (rice transplanter and a harvester/combine haevester) needs to be disseminated for farmers and stakeholders there.

Abstract

Gambier  is  one  of  the  commodity  export  in  Indonesia  and  it  has  been supplied  80%  of  the  world’s  needs.  The  largest  gambier  production  area  is  Lima Puluh  Kota  Regency,  West  Sumatera  (70,39%).  The  benefit  from  its  position  as  the biggest  gambier  supplier  or  producer  is  not  enjoyed  by  gambier  farmer  because  of weak gambier marketing  and  the role of  merchand middlement had a more powerful and dominant  for  determine  of gambier prices.  The purpose of this study  is  analyzing marketing  system  of  gambier  through  marketing  channel  analysis,  marketing channel’s  role  analysis  (farmer  group  and  merchand  middlemen)  and  operational efficiency analysis. This study was conducted from Desember 2014 until January 2015 in  Kapur  IX  Subdistrict,  Lima  Puluh  Kota  Regency,  West  Sumatera.  Farmer s  were chosen  by  purposive  sampling  method  and  middlemen  were  chosen  by  snowball sampling  method. Data processing  in this study was  using  descriptive qualitative and quantitative  analysis.  The  result  of  this  study  showed  that  there  are  4  marketing channels  of  gambier  marketing.  Based  on  operational  efficiency  indicator,  all marketing channels had been inefficiency because of weak farmer’s bargaining power so their  role is just as a price taker. But  among all  marketing channels, channel  4  is more  efficient  relatively  based  on  benefit and cost  ratio,  price  share  and  marketing function implementation. The result of this  study  also  showed that farmer  group  and farmer  association  of  gambier  are  still  in  starter  institution  so  that  they  are  not capable to contribute in marketing gambier.

Abstract

The result  of  the  study  shows  that  the  extent  of  both  active  and  passive surveillance was still low due to large coverage area and lack of report cases of  Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI)  from poultry farmers. The level of coordination among cross-border institutions was still relatively worst so that the illegal trade was still occurred in the checkpoints and other entry points along the cross-border line. The movement of poultry and poultry products was still risky  since the  traders tend to be actively visiting and catching the poultry in the sheds. There were some handicaps  in line  with  local  socio  culture  such  as  multi  events  festivity  with  high  consume  of chickens and cock fighting activity in some spotted areas.  It  is suggested that active surveillance system together with zoonotic  campaign should be implemented in order to obtain the immediate data  and information as well as  to attract poultry farmers to provide reporting on the case of HPAI in the respected areas.
