Abstract

Organic fertilizer has the advantage of containing nutrients more complete than the inorganic fertilizer albeit in relatively small quantities. In general, organic fertilizers may contribute to improve the physical, chemical, and biological soil. Peneltian purpose compost To determine the effect of palm fronds on the physical properties of the soil (moisture content, bulk density and porosity of the soil) and dry weight of leaf tobacco. The experiment was conducted in September 2015 in State Polytechnic of Lampung experimental  garden, arranged in a randomized block design factorial with bio-activator treatment differences in the way applications compost mixed with soil and on the ground. Soil sampling was take 5 cm above ground. Observations carried out on soil water content, bulk density, porosity of the soil and leaf dry weight. The results showed that compost of oil palm fronds affect the physical properties of the soil, but not significantly different to the dry weight of leaf tobacco. Keywords: compost, soil physical properties, tobaccoPermalink: http://jurnal.polinela.ac.id/index.php/AIP/article/view/15

Abstract

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is one of the estate crop commodities that is currently being developed because the cocoa plant is one of the export commodities that produce a lot of foreign exchange and has a role as high value sector besides oil and gas. Cocoa farming can increase the income of cocoa farmers, create and expand employment. This experiment used Randomized Block Design (RBD) which consisted of 4 treatments that was repeated 6 times (control, 1 tablet.polybag-1, 2 tablet.polybag-1, 3 tablet.polybag-1). This study was conducted to determine the best rate of compound fertilizer tablets for cocoa seedlings growth. The data obtained were analyzed by analysis of variance at 95% accuracy level. The results showed that there was a compound effect on the growth of cocoa seedlings to the variable of seed height, stem diameter, leaf number, leaf area, dry root weight, and total dry weight of stalk. Abstract

The process of roasting the coffee beans will produce a good quality of taste and aroma. To conduct this research activity in the roasting researchers used a minimalist roaster machine (mini roaster). This study was conducted to determine the effect of temperature and duration of roasting, and the interaction of temperature and long roasting on the quality of Robusta coffee. The experiment was conducted in analysis laboratory, plant laboratory, and THP State Polytechnic of Lampung in November 2014 to February 2015. The experiments were performed with a patterned factorial randomized block design with 2 factors and each treatment combination was repeated 3 times. The first factor is the temperature which consists of three levels i.e. 190 oC, 200 oC, and 210 oC. The second factor is roasting duration wich consist of three levels i.e. 10 minutes, 16 minutes and 22 minutes. The results showed that the temperature 190 oC was the best in the roasting. Roasting duration 10 minutes was the best in the roasting process. Temperatures above 190 oC and duration above 10 minutes will reduce the quality of the coffee. The combination of the best treatment in the process of roasting seen from the middle value in the variable water content, juice coffee and caffeine levels are long roasting temperature of 190 oC and 10 minutes. Based on advanced testing methods Tukey confidence level of 95%, no interaction by the temperature and duration of roasting the coffee extract and the water content, but shows the interaction of the ash content and the caffeine content. Keywords: quality of Robusta coffee, roasting duration, roasting temperaturePermalink: http://jurnal.polinela.ac.id/index.php/AIP/article/view/34

Abstract

Iroet Tea is a dry tea trademark owned by Koperasi Serba Usaha (KSU) Putera Mekar. Iroet tea products have been certified UTZ number two in the world and number one in Indonesia related to good plantation practices, good tea processing, environmental social issues, food safety, and quality improvement. Iroet Tea earned UTZ certificates in 2011 and 2013, but currently does not receive the certification, because there are many violations of the standard production procedures, so please note what violations that occur during the production process. The research design used in this research is qualitative with case study technique. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. KSU Putera Mekar has set the standard opertaion procedure since the process of picking shoots until dry tea processing process, so that if farmers and workers follow the standard procedure, then Iroet tea products produced will be good quality and get UTZ certificate. But many violations Iroet tea standard operation  procedures, from picking tea shoots, shoots at the shelter collecting the results, to the processing of dried tea is done at the factory. The results showed that there were many violations during the process of supplying raw materials to the production process, the violations committed in the form of non compliance with standard operation procedures and agreements related to raw materials needed, the process of gathering raw materials, and processing of dry tea.   Keywords: production, quality control, standard operation procedure, tea

Abstract

Armyworm (Spodoptera litura F.) as a polyfagous insect is a key pest of either food crops or estate crops. The larva often attack leaves of beans, cereal, shallot, cabbage, cotton, tobacco, and sugarcane. Synthetic insecticides are usually used 2 ? 3 times a week in order to manage this insect. The use of synthetic insecticides need high cost, have negative impacts such as insect resistance and resurgence, killing non-target insects, residual effects on yield, and environmental contamination and pollution. Botanical insecticide has a highly potential to be used in IPM because of its characteristics (no residual effect, cheap, easy to get and easy to apply). Mahogany seeds contain alkaloid, saponin, and flavonoid that have good insecticide activity. Extract of mahogany seeds can be used as insecticide, anti-feedant, growth retardant, and fertile retardant. The effectivity of mahogany seed extracts is affected by storage time and its concentration. The results of the experiment are the extract of mahogany seeds can be stored up to 3 weeks, and the highest effective is reached by the concentration of 20%, followed by 10% - 15% concentration as moderately effective.   Keywords: botanical insecticides, extract, mahogany seedPermalink: http://jurnal.polinela.ac.id/index.php/AIP/article/view/652
