Abstract

Cholesterol is an important element in the body needed to regulate chemical processes in the body, but high amounts of cholesterol can lead to atherosclerosis which ultimately will have an impact on coronary heart disease. This study aims to know phytochemicals contained in an avocado (persea americana mill) seeds’ extract and determines the concentration of the avocado (persea americana mill) seeds’ extract can lower mice’s blood (mus musculus) hyper cholesterol levels in optimum. The animals tested were male mice which totaled 15 mice induced by propylthiouracil and high-fat feed. The mice were divided into 5 groups with different treatment. The treatment I, II, and III were given avocado seeds’ extract with a concentration of 10%, 20% and 40% respectively, treatment IV was given simvastatin as a positive control (+), and treatment V was given standard food and aquades as negative control (-). The data gained was analyzed through analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical test which was followed by Duncan’ stest. The research findings show that avocado seeds’ extract is considered as positive to contain flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. The concentration of the avocado seeds’ extract which lowers blood hypercholesterol levels in an optimum way is 10% (b/v).

Abstract

Mercury ion extraction has been done using emulsion liquid membrane technique a research. The aim of the study is to determine the optimal conditions at the extraction process of mercury ion with research variables, namely variations of the surfactant concentration and the volume ratio of emulsion and external phase (Ve:Veks). In this study, the sample was 20 mg/L of Hg2+ ions in concentration. The concentration of mercury ions remaining in the sample after extraction were analyze using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 490 nm using ditizon as complexation. The optimum condition far varying concentrations surfactant was 2% and the volume ratio of emulsion (Ve) and external phase (Veks) was 1:5 with the percentage of extraction respectively 47.65% and 56.80%.

Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine dissolving power and the solubility of calcium on kidney stone by the extracts of basil (Ocimum sanctum L.) and determined the effect of basil leaves extracts concentration (%)on the solubility of kidney stones calcium. The method used the extraction infuse way. Variation of concentration extracts were 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. The solubility of calcium in basil leaves extracts was determined by SpectroDirect. The results showed that concentration of 5% dissolved by 15.38% of calcium; concentration of 10% dissolved by 21.05%; concentration of 15% dissolved by 26.92%; concentration of 20% dissolved by 35.71%, and concentration of 25% dissolved by 42.10%calcium. It can be concluded that the extracts of basil leaves dissolved kidney stones calcium. The solubility tests showed that the higher the concentration of the basil leaves extracts than the greater the solubility.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the optimum condition on the extraction process of mercury ions with the variables of study on the ratio of membrane phase volume and internal phase volume (Mp:Ip) and the extraction time which will provide the greatest percent extraction. Sample used in this study was an artificial sample containing Hg(II) ions with a concentration of 10 mg/L. Hg(II) ions will be distributed into internal phase through membrane phase formed from a mixture of surfactants, kerosene and chelating compounds. Concentration of mercury ions remained in the samples was analyzed using a UV-VIS spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 490 nm with ditizon as a complex. The optimum condition was achieved at a volume ratio of membrane phase (Mp) with internal phase (Ip) of 2:2, and the extraction time was for 10 minutes, where percent extractions were 66.11% and 82.23%, respectively.

Abstract

Salak seed is a waste of salak fruit that contains a high carbohydrate, therefore it can be used as an alternative raw material for the production of bioethanol. The study aims to determine the optimum time of fermentation to produce the highest content of bioethanol and to determine the weight ratio of the yeast and the substrate that produce the highest content of bioethanol. Variations of yeast mass used was 2, 4, and 6 grams and fermentation time were 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, and 144 hours. The analysis showed that the highest content of bioethanol produced was 6 grams of the yeast mass, the fermentation time was 48 hours and the weight ratio of yeast to the substrate was 6: 10 that obtained 11.2%.

Abstract

This research aims to study the concentration effect percentage weight of kayu jawa latex on the conductivity of membranes made from chitosan-PVA-lithium. The ionic conductivity of the membrane chitosan-PVA-lithium-latex kayu jawa was measured by impedance spectroscopy. The measurement results showed that membrane with the addition of 15% latex kayu jawa provided the highest conductivity values of 10.99353 x 10-4 S/cm. Characterization of the polymer electrolyte batteries that made from chitosan-PVA-lithium with the addition of latex kayu jawa have voltage of 1.5 Volts compared to commercial batteries that have tension was 1.5 Volts. These results indicated that latex kayu can be used as a filler to increase the ionic conductivity.

Abstract

A research about the bioabsorption of Pb(II) using the tangerine peel (Citrus reticulata) has been done. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimum contact time of tangerine peel and to determine the pH of the tangerine peel on the adsorption power of Pb(II) in solution. The method used in this study was a laboratory experiment using the tangerine peel waste as the adsorbent of Pb(II). The concentration of Pb(II) adsorbed was measured using a spectrophotometer spectrodirect. The results showed that the optimum contact time of adsorption the metal ions Pb(II) was 60 minutes with the absorption efficiency of 96.19%. The pH optimum of adsorption of the metal ion Pb(II) was at pH 4.0 with the absorption efficiency of 93.05%.

Abstract

An effort to minimize the environmental pollution is using that waste as a base material of organic fertilizer. This study was conducted to determine the levels of Nitrogen (N) and phosphorous (P) contained in the offal waste of mujair fish (Oreochromis mosambicus) from Lindu lake. Samples of mujair offal waste were taken from fish saler on the street Towua, Palu. Analysis of Nitrogen levels usedKjeldhal method which consists of three phases, namely destruction, distillation, and titration. On the other hand, for Phosphorus analysis was using wet digestion method, followed by absorbance measurements of samples with spectronic 20 at a wavelength of 720 nm. Based on the analysis, the average of nitrogen (N) levels in mujair offal waste was 2.78%, while the average of phosphorus (P) levels was 2.48%. From these results, it is known that mujair offal waste contains more nitrogen (N) compared to phosphorous (P). In addition, when compared to the quality standard liquid organic fertilizer N and P content in mujair offal almost meets the quality standard liquid fertilizer, where the minimum technical requirements of organic liquid fertilizer should contain a total N content of 3-6% and 3-6% P2O5.

Abstract

Study on the extraction of mercury ion had been done using emulsion liquid membrane technique. The aim of this study was to determine the optimum condition on mercury ion extraction in solutions those include variations in concentration of HCl solution (0.5 to 2.5) M and variation in concentration of mercury (15-35) ppm.This study was conducted using laboratory experimental method with benzoyl acetone as cation carrier, kerosene as membrane phase, HCl solution as an internal phase, Span-80 and Span-20 as surfactants, and mercury solution as the sample. Determination concentration of mercury ion in external phase was analysed using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The result showed that the concentration of HCl solution resulted in the optimum percentage of extraction with the percent extraction of 95.31% was at 2 M. In addition, the concentration of mercury solution resulted in percent optimum extraction of 96.58% was at a concentration of 30 ppm.

Abstract

Red fruit seeds have not been studied and known benefits, therefore it needed scientific information about the content and benefits of red fruit seeds. This study aims to analyze the antioxidant power red fruit seed extract as well determining the IC50 value of red fruit seed extract which has the ability of natural antioxidants. Determination of free radical DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazyl) after the addition of red fruit seeds extract is determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Variations in the concentration of the red fruit seed extract used is 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm, 80 ppm and 100 ppm.The positive control used is vitamin C with the same concentration. While the negative control using DPPH solution dissolved in absolute ethanol. The results showed IC50 values obtained for the red fruit seed extract and vitamin C are 223.8 ppm and 1.73 ppm. Based on the IC50 data can be known that vitamin C antioxidants more powerful than red fruit seed extract which belongs to natural antioxidants are very weak.
