Abstract

Red fruit seeds have not been studied and known benefits, therefore it needed scientific information about the content and benefits of red fruit seeds. This study aims to analyze the antioxidant power red fruit seed extract as well determining the IC50 value of red fruit seed extract which has the ability of natural antioxidants. Determination of free radical DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazyl) after the addition of red fruit seeds extract is determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Variations in the concentration of the red fruit seed extract used is 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm, 80 ppm and 100 ppm.The positive control used is vitamin C with the same concentration. While the negative control using DPPH solution dissolved in absolute ethanol. The results showed IC50 values obtained for the red fruit seed extract and vitamin C are 223.8 ppm and 1.73 ppm. Based on the IC50 data can be known that vitamin C antioxidants more powerful than red fruit seed extract which belongs to natural antioxidants are very weak.

Abstract

Antioxidant activity test of lidah mertua (Sansevieria trifasciata P.) leaves extract using 1,1-diphenil-2-picrylhydrazyl has been carried out. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of ethanol extracts of old and young leaves of lidah mertua (Sansevieria trifasciata P.). The radical concentration of 1,1-diphenil-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) after the addition of ethanol extracts of old and young leaves of lidah mertua was determined using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The concentrations used in the ethanol extracts of old and young leaves of lidah mertua were 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm, 80 ppm and 100 ppm. The IC50 values obtained of ethanol extracts of old and young leaves of lidah mertua were 131.336 ppm and 144.568 ppm respectively, while IC50 value of vitamin C as a comparison was 65.433 ppm. It can be seen that the antioxidant ethanol extracts of old and young leaves of lidah mertua are moderate compared to vitamin C.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the influence of Brain Based Learning (BBL) model toward learning outcomes of chemistry in grade XI at SMA 7 Palu. The method used was a quasi-experiment with pretest-posttest control group design. Sampling was done by purposive with the sample of class XI Science 2 as the experimental class and class XI Science 5 as the control class. Data of students’ learning outcome was tested using non-parametric statistical analysis, i.e the Mann-Whitney test (U-Test).  Analysis of the data obtained the value of students’ learning outcomes in the experimental class (x ̅_1) was 89.16 with a standard deviation of 10.96, while in the control class students the (x ̅_2) value was 56.47 with a standard deviation of 11.50. Hypothesis testing obtained a Zcount value was 5.68 which was in the acceptance area of H1, so tha H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. This mean that the average score of students’ learning outcomes of the experimental class was not the similar to the control class. This study concluded that the Brain Based Learning (BBL) model influenced students’ learning outcomes on reaction rate at SMAN 7 Palu..

Abstract

Application of learning model is expected to build good communication between students with teachers and students with students in an effort to improve understanding of a concept. This study aimed to determine the differences in the learning outcomes of chemistry through cooperative learning model type make a match and numbered head together in the material of electrolyte and nonelectrolyte solution of students class X SMA Negeri 9 Palu. This type of research was pre-experimental with the static group pretest-posttest design. The sample used in this research was the students of class Xa (n = 23) as the first experiment 1 and students of class Xb (n = 23) as the second experiment 2 with. The result of data analysis obtained, the mean value of the experiment class 1 was 74.24 and in the experiment class 2 was 67.28. The result of hypothesis testing with t-test statistic on two side was obtained - ttable ≤ tcount ³ + ttable that was (-1.68 <3.27> +1.68 with significant level (α = 0.05) and degrees of freedom = 44. This indicates that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted so that it can be concluded that there are differences in the students’ learning outcomes of chemistry through cooperative learning model type make a match and numbered head together in the material of electrolyte and nonelectrolyte solution of class X SMA Negeri 9 Palu.

Abstract

This study aimed to obtain a description of implementation on student’s learning outcomes the application of cooperative learning model of TGT based on demonstration Class XI on colloid material in SMA Negeri 7 Palu. The type of research used in this research was pre-experimental designs (non-designs) with research design that was one-group pre-test post-test design. Sampling in this study was chosen by purposive sampling. The sample consisted of two classes, class XI IPA 1 as experimental class 1 (n = 28) and class XI IPA 2 as experiment class 2 (n = 29). Student learning outcomes were processed using inferential statistical analysis of the Wilcoxon Rank-Unparpulated Ranking nonparametric test. The results showed that the experimental class 1 was Zcount (-4.62) <Ztable (-1.96) and experiment 2 was Zcount (-4.70) <Ztable (-1.96). The effectiveness of the implementation of learning model of TGT based on demonstration to words student learning outcomes can also be seen from the assessment of student learning outcomes with the average posttest score for experimental class 1 was 83.29 and experiment class 2 was 80.86 with the result of N-gain calculation for both experiment class included in high category that was equal to 0.83 and 0.85. So it can be concluded that the implementation of learning model of TGT based on demonstration can improve student learning outcomes with average greater than 75 on colloid material in SMA 7 Palu.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the differences in the chemistry learning outcomes using cooperative learning model type Numbered Head Together with Think-Pair-Share on the material of atomic structure and periodic table in class XI SMAN 9 Palu. This type of research was a quasi-experimental research with the nonrandomized pretest-posttest design. The population in this research was 44 students of class XI IPA in SMA Negeri 9 Palu who registered in the academic year 2017/2018.  The sampling technique used was saturated sampling. The sample in this study were 22 students of class XI IPA 1 as experimental class 1 and 22 students of class XI IPA 2 as experimental class 2. The data of the research were analyzed using a one-party t-test statistic with the prerequisite test, normality test, and homogeneity. The result of data analysis obtained,  X̅1 value of chemistry learning on the students of experimental class 1 was 79.86 (SD = 7.15) whereas in the experimental class 2 students X̅2 value was 73.95 (SD = 8.26). The result of hypothesis testing was obtained t > t1 – α was 2,55 > 1.68 with a significant level (α = 0.05) and degrees of freedom = 42. This showed that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted so that it can be concluded that there were differences in the results of chemistry learning outcomes using cooperative learning model type Numbered Head Together with Think-Pair-Share on the material of the atomic structure and the periodic table.

Abstract

Cassava is a tuber of cassava plants which is a source of carbohydrates that can be consumed as food and as snack foods such as chips. However, cassava and the leaves contain cyanide acid (HCN) which is dangerous for the human when consumed in excess. Cyanide acid reduction can be done by washing as well as immersion because of its volatile nature. The aim of this research is to investigate the difference of cyanide acid (HCN) content on peeled and unpeeled cassava with the variation of storage time 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 days. A preliminary test was done to know the existence of cyanide acid (HCN) in cassava. Method analysis of cassava was titrated with the NH4CNS solution using the argentometric principle of the Volhard method. The results showed that cyanide acid (HCN) content in peeled cassava was higher than unpeeled cassava which was 3.9, 4.7, 5.2, 5.6, and 6.0% respectively for shelled cassava and 3.9, 4.6, 5.1, 5.5, and 5.9% respectively for unpeeled cassava.
