Abstract

Syzygium polyanthum has medicinal benefits, especially in its stem bark. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of methanol extract of Syzygium polyanthum’s stem bark to the inhibit of Escherchia coli growth. Extraction method done by maceration using methanol solvent. The extract used 40%, 60% and 80%, with tetracycline as a positive control and aquades as a negative control. Antibacterial activity tested by disk diffusion method. The result of antibacterial activity test analyzed using one-way ANOVA, followed by LSD test. The result showed that the extract concentration of 40%, 60%, and 80% have antibacterial activity with an average diameter of inhibitory zone, such as: 40% (16,2 mm),60% ( 8,5 mm) and 80% (16,3 mm), while the positive control 27,3 mm and negative control 0 mm. The results of the ANOVA analysis showed a significant value of 0.000 (p<0.05), which means there are significant differences in the effects of various concentrations of methanol extract of Syzygium polyanthum’s stem bark against Escherchia coli growth. The results of the LSD (Least Significance Different) test showed that all treatments were significantly different than concentration of 40% to consentration of 80%. The conclusion of the study is the methanol extract of Syzygium polyanthum’s stem bark have antibacterial activity against Escherchia coli. Abstract

The ability of asking and opining can be used to measure students critical thinking skills. The purpose of this study was to determine the students’ ability of asking and opining at learning program of preservice biology teachers. This type of research was a survey with a qualitative descriptive approach conducted in the subject of Animal Physiology. The research was conducted in the academic year 2015/2016. The research subjects consisted of 109 students in STKIP Indonesia Makassar, UIN Alauddin Makassar, UPRI Makassar. The research instrument was observation sheet related to the students’ ability of asking and opining. The data analysis related to the question quality of students showed that 76.92% questions are classified of Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS) and 23.08% questions are classified of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The data analysis results related to the students ability of opining showed that 86.66% opinions are classified as Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS) and 13.34% opinions are classified as Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). These results suggest that the students’ ability to ask and to opine are not fully empowered yet in the learning process, so those abilities still need to be improved. Abstract

This study aims to produce problem based learning kits which are valid, and effective to improve the science process skills. This study was a research and development (R&D). The development was made by adapting the development model by Borg and Gall consisting of seven development stages: (1) preliminary investigation, (2) planning, (3) preliminary product arrangement,(4) product validation (5) small group tryout, (6) field tryout, and (7) dissemination. The tryout subjects in this study were 40 students. The details of those students were 11 students for small group tryout, 28 students as the experimental group and the other 29 students as the control group. The experimental group was taught using problem based learning kits, while the control group using learning kits that already exist. The data were collected through product validation sheets, classroom observation sheets, students questionnaires, science process skills test and science process skills observation sheets. The results show that the developed problem based learning kits are valid and effective to improve students science process skills. The study validation showed the kits are excellent, with an average score of 4.52. The tryout results shows that the kits at the level of practicality on small groups and field are very good showing that 87.90% learning process is well done on small groups , while on the field tryout is 97.22%. The kits are effective to improve science process skills based on the comparison of the experiment and control classes. Keywords: development, science process skills, PBL kits

Abstract

Course Review Horay (CRH) learning model based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is a cooperative learning model that provides many questions to encourage active learning and critical thinking ability of students. Cards of CRH contain 9 or 16 or 25 columns to write down the students' answers. If they answer three questions correctly as vertical/horizontal/diagonally they would shout “horay”. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of CRH learning model based on PBL approach on the students’ critical thinking skill and learning outcome for the eleventh-grade science students of SMA Arjasa Jember. There were used control class and experimental class. The results showed that learning model of CRH based on PBL approach had increased the students’ critical thinking skill (p = 0.000) aswell as significantly increased the students’ learning outcome of cognitive, affective and psychomotor. Abstract

Abstract— Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui peningkatan motivasi dan hasil belajar siswa setelah diterapkannya model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Jigsaw Plus. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini terdiri dari dua (2) siklus dengan subjek penelitian siswa kelas VIIIA SMP Negeri 1 Sidayu yang terdiri dari 14 siswa dan 16 siswi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Jigsaw Plus dapat meningkatkan motivasi dan hasil belajar siswa. Dengan hasil yang didapatkan, motivasi sebesar 86 % sedangkan hasil belajar mencapai 87 %. Keywords: Motivasi, hasil belajar, jigsaw plus.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a teaching materials of biology ubjects based on problem based learning combined by think pair share models that used in teaching circulation system at the 11th grades of natural science senior high school to improve students' science process skills. The development in this study following steps of 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate) that developed by Thiagarajan. In this development study the teaching material just followed three steps until validation product at Develop phase. The teaching materials that developed in this study consist of syllabi, lesson plans, worksheets, and assessment sheet. Validation assessment was done by two lectures as education expert and content material expert from Universitas Negeri Malang and a teacher as practitioner expert from SMAN 1 Kasiman Bojonegoro. Validation by education expert shows the value of validity is 94.03, the validation by content material expert shows the value of validity is 91.50, and the result of the validation by practitioners shows the value of validity is 95.08. Based on the validation results of the three experts indicate that the teaching materials achieve very valid criteria that’s mean did not need to revision and can be be used in biology learning of circulation system to improve students' science process skills of the 11th grades of natural science senior high school.
