Abstract

This study aims to improve the quality of learning by developing character-based teaching materials research animal physiology courses. This research method is the development of module manufacturing as a source of learning based on the research that has been done, including a description, picture research and implementation process that include sites expected character, whether written or unwritten is adapted from Dick and Carey learning system to make some adjustments. The results obtained are based on the calculation and conversion of valuation module by module expert instructional materialsby 71, 66%. Based on the results of the conversion, the preparation of the module other wise well qualified and do not need to be revised. The results of the assessment calculation and conversion modules by physiologists by 85%. Based on the results of  the conversion, the module qualification other wise excellent preparation and do not need to be revised. Conclusion are obtained the results by the developing of characterized teaching materials based on the results of experiment is feasible and can be used to support lectures to enhance the quality of teaching Animal Physiology courses in college.Kata kunci: Kualitas pembelajaran fisiologi hewan, bahan ajar berkarakter

Abstract

The purpose of the research and development is to produce teaching materials such as textbookssupporting course in Biotechnology research based on the characterization of the sperm membraneproteins for students who take a course in Biotechnology. This research is a research and development, where the results of research become the teaching materials developed supporting Biotechnologycourse. Development models have prepared using ADDIE Model. Sources of data in this researchinclude laboratory research and validation of the results sheet of Biotechnology material experts,instructional design experts, the media, and the trials in students. The analysis is used descriptiveanalysis and quantitative descriptive exploratory. The results of the research have developed becometeaching materials like text books supporting courses and have been validated by the Biotechnology,the biotechnology material experts, instructional design experts, the media, the individual testing, andgroup trials. Based on the results of the validation material have obtained value of 89.56%, the resultsof the design validation and media experts to get the value of 93.75%, it means that the teachingmaterials has been developed which suitable to be used as a teaching material support biotechnologycourse. While the experiments performed to get a data the percentage of students that are equal to88.98% and included in the category of “very good”, but still need to be revised based on advices andcomments from students.Keywords: Teaching material, Characterization of Membrane Proteins, Biotechnology.

Abstract

This research is a research and development, where theresults of research become the teaching materials developed supporting Reproduction Physiologycourse. Abstract

Kehidupan saat ini menawarkan berbagai kemudahan. Namun, seiring dengan hal tersebut ada banyak permasalahan yang memicu stress. Selain itu, terdapat banyak unsur kimia dan logam berat yang jika saling berinteraksi dapat menimbulkan berbagai macam penyakit mulai dari flu hingga kanker, termasuk autis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis potensi profil protein dalam darah yang menyebabkan autis berdasarkan bioinformatik. Kemudian, disosialisasikan kepada masyarakat khususnya orang tua anak autis di Kota Malang sehingga dapat memberikan wawasan tentang autis. Penelitian ini juga dapat dikembangkan sebagai dasar penelitian laboratorium. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif, menggunakan tiga database yaitu National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), Uniprot, dan Protein Data Bank (PDB) serta menggunakan software Pymol. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Protein dalam darah yang berpotensi menyebabkan autis berdasarkan artikel yaitu mTOR, Glutathione S Transferase P, Chemokine Monocyte Chemotactic Protein-1 (MCP-1), Interferon-∂-Inducible Protein-16 (IFI-16), dan serotonin; 2) Protein-protein tersebut setelah dianalisis dengan menggunakan tiga database (NCBI, Uniprot, dan PDB) menunjukkan bahwa protein Glutathione S Transferase P  lebih berpotensi terhadap autis. Hal ini karena protein tersebut berfungsi untuk mencegah neurodegeneration; 3) Penelitian tentang penyebab autis sangat dibutuhkan oleh orang tua anak autis (masyarakat), sehingga dapat diminimalisir akses masuknya pemicu tersebut.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan sarana kontrasepsi pria dengan memanfaatkan bahan alami berasal dari tanaman sudah banyak dilakukan. Tetapi pemanfaatan biji kedelai sebagai salah satu tanaman suku Leguminoceae belum pernah dilakukan. Biji kedelai mengandung senyawa genistein, sebagai salah satu senyawa derivat isoflavon mempuyai struktur kimia mirip dengan 17β-estradiol bersifat seperti hormon steroid estrogen, mampu menyebabkan kerusakan pada sistem reproduksi jantan. Penelitian bertujuan menguji pengaruh genistein terhadap histopatologi tubulus seminiferus testis mencit jantan (Mus musculus). Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan pendekatan eksperimental, yang rancangannya mengikuti rancangan acak lengkap. Variabel bebas adalah dosis genistein 0 mg/g, 0,0035 mg/g, 0,0042 mg/g, dan 0,0049 mg/g. Variabel terikat adalah sel-sel germinal tubulus seminiferus testis. Data rerata jumlah sel-sel germinal dianalisis menggunakan Analisis Varians Satu Arah (One Way ANOVA) dengan tingkat signifikansi 95% (α 5%) dilakukan uji Post Hoc dengan Least Significant Difference (LSD) α 5%. Perubahan pada jaringan testis dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh pemberian genistein terhadap rerata jumlah sel-sel germinal dan menyebabkan penghambatan proliferasi sel-sel germinal dalam tubulus seminiferus testis.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Usaha untuk mendapatkan sarana kontrasepsi pria sebenarnya telah banyak dilakukan dengan memanfaatkan bahan alami yang berasal dari tanaman. Salah satunya adalah tanaman famili Leguminoceae yang mengandung senyawa genistein. Genistein sebagai salah satu senyawa derivat isoflavon mempuyai struktur kimia mirip dengan 17?-estradiol yang bersifat seperti hormon steroid estrogen, yang mampu menyebabkan kerusakan pada sistem reproduksi jantan sebagai salah satu indikator digunakannya genistein sebagai senyawa antifertilitas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh genistein terhadap sistem reproduksi mencit jantan (Mus musculus). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif eksperimental, yang rancangannya mengikuti Rancangan Acak Kelompok. Variabel bebas adalah dosis genistein 0 mg/g, 0,0035 mg/g, 0,0042 mg/g, dan 0,0049 mg/g. Variabel terikatnya adalah sel-sel germinal dalam tubulus seminiferus testis, morfologi spermatozoa, viabilitas spermatozoa, dan kadar hormon testosteron. Data sel-sel germinal dalam tubulus seminiferus testis kadar hormon testosteron dianalisis menggunakan Analisis Varians Satu Jalan (One Way ANOVA) dengan tingkat signifikansi 5%. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji Post Hoc dengan Least Significant Difference (LSD) 5%. Data morfologi dan viabilitas spermatozoa dinyatakan dalam prosentase. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh genistein pada sistem reproduksi mencit jantan (Mus musculus). Genistein yang diberikan dengan dosis 0,0035 mg/g; 0,0042 mg/g; dan 0,0049 mg/g berpengaruh terhadap jumlah sel germinal, morfologi dan viabilitas spermatozoa. Kadar hormon testosteron berbeda nyata pada dosis 0,0049 mg/g. Kata kunci : genistein, sistem reproduksi jantan

Abstract

The Artificial Insemination (AI) aims to develop the potential of the cattle reproduction comprehensively. The success of AI results is highly dependent on the level of livestock fertility. Therefore, improv the quality and quantity of semen could be done by hormone induction. However, hormone prices are expensive. This problem could be overcome using alternative way with the natural compound containing chrysin which might has the same function. The purpose of the study was analyze the potential of chrysin compound from Bungli plant (Oroxylum indicum) as fertilizer of males through bioinformatics approach. Methods performed through data search by webserver with the following stages: (1) Pubchem, (2) Swiss (3) Target Prediction, (4) Uniprot, (5) Protein Data Bank and (6) docking software using PyRx, PyMOL and Discovery Studio. The results showed that the chrysin compound interact with carbonic anhydrase (CA) expressed from the testes of the cattle, through van der Waals and Pi-Alkyl bonds. Chrysin is effective as CA ligand inducers based on affinity bonds (-8.4 kcal/mole) and more negatively than flavonol as a control compound with binding affinity (-6.2 kcal/mol). This suggests that chrysin is an effective compound as a potential drug for improved livestock fertility.

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this research is to get the profile of human sperms membrane protein based on identification for molecular weight, concentration protein, phosphorylation activity, and ability to raise enough antibodies. Material and methods: There are three phases in this research, first, isolation protein of human sperms membrane with using lysis buffer containing Tween-20, second, determination of molecular weight, phosphorylation activity, and protein concentration, and third, antibody production. Molecular weight of protein membrane was detected by SDS-PAGE, confirmation of protein concentration measured Biuret method, kinase activity measured using spectrophometry at its optimum condition, and then production of antibody that corfirmed by ELISA technique. Results: Human sperms contain the protein with molecular weight of 201, 163, 116, 97, 72, 56, 48, 32, 27, 20, and 17kDa. The highest phosphorylation activity was found on protein with molecular weight of 20 kDa is 30.197x 10-3 unit, while the lowest phosphorylation activity is 28.976x10-3 unit was shown on protein with 116 kDa of molecular weight and then   this protein can induce production of antibody. Biuret method show the protein concentration from protein with molecular weight 116 kDa is 410 ug/mL. Conclusion: The protein that has molecular weight of 116 kDa can be used as immunocontraception agent because phosphorylation activity has lower, good concentration, and could induce the production of antibody.

Abstract

As one of the 21st-century skills, critical thinking (CT) is required for working in an interdisciplinary setting. Educators are expected to provide learning activities that enhance students’ CT skills. Biology, particularly Cell Biology, is seen as challenging since the topics covered therein relate to those covered in the following semester. This research was conducted out as a preliminary study to improve the quality of the learning process, especially in the Cell Biology course. It aimed to identify students’ CT skills in mastering concepts about Cell Membranes. This study enlisted the participation of 105 students from two universities. This research used an instrument test essay using the rubric CT skills. The findings revealed that undergraduate students’ CT skills were classified as basic in mastering the concept of Cell Membrane.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the natural bioactive compounds of vetiver essential oil for the treatment of gastric damage based on in silico screening. Natural secondary metabolites that have the potential to treat gastric damage are pyrozoline, which is contained in essential oils of vetiver. 3D chemical structures and SMILES ligands (Pirazolin) are taken from the compound database on the server. The target selection results using Pharmmapper (JOBID 17043231348). Swiss Target Prediction and Super Pret found that Pirazolin Compound interacts with the target protein Tyrosyl-DNA phosphodiesterase 1. This research proves that Pirazolin natural compounds that can be obtained from essential oils of vetiver have the potential as gastric inflammatory drugs similar to the chemical compounds commonly used as drugs namely Celecoxib. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui senyawa bioaktif alami dari minyak atsiri akar wangi  untuk pengobatan kerusakan lambung berdasarkan penyaringan in silico. Senyawa metabolit sekunder alami yang berpotensi untuk pengobatan kerusakan lambung adalah Pirozolin, yang terkandung pada minyak atsiri akar wangi. Struktur kimia 3D dan SMILES ligan (Pirazolin) diambil dari database senyawa pada server. Hasil seleksi target menggunakan Pharmmapper (JOBID 17043231348). Swiss Target Prediction dan Super Pret ditemukan bahwa Senyawa Pirazolin berinteraksi dengan protein  target Tyrosyl-DNA phosphodiesterase 1. Penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa senyawa alami Pirazolin yang bisa diperoleh dari minyak atsiri akar wangi memiliki potensi sebagai obat inflamasi lambung yang mirip dengan senyawa kimia yang biasa digunakan sebagai obat yaitu Celecoxib. Kata kunci: akar wangi, in silico, kerusakan lambung, minyak atsiri
