Abstract

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to provide educators with a different perspective on the teaching and value of proverbs. In addition to the semantics and pragmatics of proverbs, the lateral words and phrases used are equally important and interesting for students living in a modern era and culture. Pupils, as early as the third grade in elementary school, can be introduced to proverbs with this method. So, this paper focuses on environmental education using Malay proverbs in schools. The local wisdom of proverbs reflects views from earlier times, defining the culture, and its values. I try to explore how traditional Malay people coexisted with nature. Using observations of their surroundings, they crafted proverbs using beautiful phrases and conveyed wise messages. The educators can use this wisdom in teaching about the relationship between plants, animals, and natural objects; and how to mitigate or prevent natural calamities. The paper describes proverbs with an environmental theme and introduces the concept of environmental awareness education integrated with teachings from the Malay language. Due to the time depth and language dynamic, the words or phrases used in proverbs might change over time, which poses challenge to learners. It is important for teachers to apply an integrated learning approach in the teaching of proverbs. Besides the meaning of the proverbs, students should first understand the words or the phrases that built the proverbs and appreciate our forefathers’ ingenuity, especially its relations with the environment.KEY WORD: Proverbs; Malay Language; Environment; Education; Integrated Learning. RESUME: “Pendidikan Kesedaran Alam Sekitar melalui Peribahasa di Negara Brunei Darussalam”. Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk memberi pendidik dengan perspektif yang berbeza mengenai pengajaran dan nilai peribahasa. Sebagai tambahan kepada semantik dan pragmatik peribahasa, perkataan dan frasa yang digunakan adalah sama penting dan menarik untuk pelajar yang tinggal di era dan budaya moden. Murid, seawal darjah  ketiga di sekolah rendah, boleh diperkenalkan kepada peribahasa dengan kaedah ini. Oleh itu, makalah ini memberi tumpuan kepada pendidikan alam sekitar dengan menggunakan peribahasa Melayu di sekolah. Kebijaksanaan tempatan peribahasa mencerminkan pandangan dari zaman dahulu, menentukan budaya, dan nilai-nilainya. Saya cuba untuk meneroka bagaimana orang-orang Melayu tradisional bersubahat dengan alam semula jadi. Menggunakan pemerhatian persekitaran, mereka menghasilkan peribahasa dengan frasa yang indah dan menyampaikan mesej bijak. Para pendidik boleh menggunakan kebijaksanaan ini dalam mengajar tentang hubungan antara tumbuhan, haiwan, dan objek semula jadi; serta bagaimana untuk mengurangkan atau mencegah bencana alam. Makalah ini menerangkan peribahasa dengan tema alam sekitar dan memperkenalkan konsep pendidikan kesedaran alam sekitar yang bersepadu dengan pengajaran bahasa Melayu. Oleh kerana kedalaman waktu dan bahasa yang dinamik, perkataan atau frasa yang digunakan dalam peribahasa mungkin berubah dari semasa ke semasa, yang menimbulkan cabaran kepada pelajar. Adalah penting bagi guru untuk menggunakan pendekatan pembelajaran bersepadu dalam mengajar peribahasa. SOSIOHUMANIKA: Jurnal Pendidikan Sains Sosial dan Kemanusiaan. This journal, with print ISSN 1979-0112, was firstly published on May 20, 2008 in the context to commemorate One Millenium of National Awakening Day in Indonesian. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is published twice a year i.e. every May and November. Abstract

RESUME: Peranan UKM (Usaha Kecil dan Menengah) sangat besar dalam hal penyediaan kesempatan usaha, lapangan kerja, dan peningkatan ekspor. UKM lebih mampu untuk bertahan lebih lama dari krisis ekonomi dibandingkan dengan perusahaan skala besar, karena mempunyai karakteristik yang lebih fleksibel dan lebih memanfaatkan sumber daya lokal, sehingga bisa diandalkan untuk mendukung ketahanan ekonomi. Peranan UKM harus diimbangi dengan kepemimpinan yang efektif di dalamnya, sehingga diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kinerja UKM di masa yang akan datang. Penelitian ini memiliki target khusus berupa lahirnya model kepemimpinan yang efektif bagi UKM. Dengan ditemukannya model kepemimpinan yang efektif ini, diharapkan seluruh UKM dapat menerapkannya, sehingga meningkatkan kinerja mereka. Metode penelitian yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif dengan menggunakan alat analisis statistik berupa SEM (Structural Equation Modeling), yang digabung dengan metode kualitatif untuk mengkonfirmasi hasil statistik. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa “Kepemimpinan yang efektif” berpengaruh terhadap “Kinerja UKM”. Penelitian ini menghasilkan model kepemimpinan yang efektif khusus untuk UKM. Kepemimpinan yang efektif akan tercipta jika memiliki tiga unsur berupa hubungan pimpinan dan bawahan, struktur tugas, dan kekuatan posisi pimpinan. Akhirnya, direkomendasikan agar Pemerintah Daerah memanfaatkan potensi UKM yang memilih “Hubungan pimpinan dan bawahan” dalam menciptakan “Kepemimpinan yang efektif” untuk dapat meningkatkan “Kinerja UKM”.KATA KUNCI: Kepemimpinan; Efektivitas; Kinerja; Usaha Kecil dan Menengah; Pemerintah Daerah. ABSTRACT: “Effective Leadership in Improving Performance of Small and Medium Enterprises”. The role of SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) can be seen in terms of providing a business opportunity, jobs, and increased exports. SMEs are able to survive longer than large-scale enterprises in facing the economic crisis, because they have the unique characteristics. The characteristics are more flexible and able to utilize local resources, so that they can be relied upon to support the economic security. The role of SMEs should be balanced with leadership effectiveness, so it can improve the performance of SMEs in the future. This study has a specific target such as the appearance of a leadership effectiveness model for SMEs. With the discovery of the leadership effectiveness model, it is expected that all SMEs can implement the model and improve their performance. The research method applied in this research is quantitative method by using statistical analysis tools, such as SEM (Structural Equation Modeling), combined with qualitative method to confirm the statistical results. The results of the research show that the “leadership effectiveness” takes effect on the “performance of SMEs”. This research creates output of leadership effectiveness model for SMEs. Leadership effectiveness will be created if it contains three elements, they are leader and subordinate relationship, task structure, and strength of leader position. Finally, it is recommended that local governments take advantage of the SMEs’ potential that choose “Leadership and subordinate relations” in creating “Effective leadership” to improve “SME performance”.KEY WORD: Leadership; Effectiveness; Performance; Small and Medium Enterprises; Local Government.  About the Authors: R. Abstract

RESUME: Pendidikan di madrasah adalah pendidikan yang setara dengan pendidikan pada umumnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kontribusi kemampuan manajerial kepala madrasah dan kinerja mengajar guru terhadap mutu Madrasah Aliyah Swasta. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode survey. Populasi adalah seluruh Madrasah Aliyah Swasta di Kabupaten Bandung Barat, Jawa Barat, Indonesia. Jumlah sampel sebanyak 38 madrasah yang diambil berdasarkan “purposive stratified random sampling” dari seluruh Madrasah Aliyah Swasta yang dijadikan sampel di Kabupaten Bandung Barat. Penjaringan data menggunakan kuesioner dan dianalisis melalui korelasi dan regresi. Berdasarkan hasil pengolahan dan analisis data ditemukan bahwa kemampuan manajerial kepala madrasah, kinerja mengajar guru, dan mutu Madrasah Aliyah Swasta di Kabupaten Bandung Barat berada pada kategori “tinggi”. Kemampuan manajerial kepala madrasah berkontribusi secara signifikan terhadap mutu madrasah dan berada pada kategori “kuat”. Kinerja mengajar guru berkontribusi secara signfikan terhadap mutu madrasah dan berada pada kategori “cukup kuat”. Akhirnya, secara bersama-sama kemampuan manajerial kepala madrasah dan kinerja mengajar guru berkontribusi secara signifikan terhadap mutu madrasah dan berada pada kategori “kuat”.KATA KUNCI: Kemampuan Manajerial; Kepala Madrasah; Kinerja Mengajar Guru; Mutu Madrasah; Madrasah Aliyah Swasta. ABSTRACT: “Contribution of Principal’s Managerial Skill and Teaching Performance of Teachers to the Quality of Private Islamic Senior High School”. The education in Islamic Senior High School is an education equivalent to education in general. This research aimed to determine the contribution of principal’s managerial skill and teaching performance of teachers to the quality of Private Islamic Senior High School. This research used quantitative approach with survey method. Population in this research is all Private Islamic Senior High School in West Bandung District, West Java, Indonesia. The sample was using stratified random sampling with the sample of 38 Private Islamic Senior High Schools in West Bandung District. Crawl data using questionnaires and analyzed through correlation and regression. Based on data processing and analysis, it was found that the principal managerial skill, teaching performance of teachers, and quality of Private Islamic Senior High School in West Bandung District are “high” category. The principal managerial skillcontribute significantly to quality of Islamic Senior High School and the category are “strong”. Teaching performance of teachers contribute significantly to the quality of Islamic Senior High School and the category are “fairly strong”. Finally, the principal managerial skill and the teaching performance of teachers contribute significantly to the quality of Islamic Senior High School and  the category are “strong”. Abstract

RESUME: Kesejahteraan sosial merupakan elemen terpenting yang harus dipupuk serta dimiliki oleh setiap rakyat dalam sesebuah negara. Dalam konteks pembangunan sesebuah negara, kesejahteraan sosial bernilai apabila rakyat memperoleh sepenuhnya hak dan peluang yang sepatutnya diperoleh. Tahap kesejahteraan sosial yang stabil amat penting dalam komuniti moden, memandangkan kebanyakkan daripada mereka telahpun terdedah dengan hak dan peluang untuk merealisasikan potensi kehidupan sosial mereka. Antara ukuran utama kesejahteraan sosial adalah peluang untuk menikmati kesan yang positif terhadap penyediaan pemilikan rumah yang mencukupi dan mampu untuk dimiliki. Justeru, matlamat utama penulisan ini adalah untuk melihat kepentingan pembangunan kesejahteraan sosial, terutamanya dalam konteks kepentingan pemilikan rumah. Perbincangan kajian ini, dengan menggunapakai kaedah kualitatif dengan huraian yang bercorak deskriptif, turut menggariskan keperluan rumah terhadap institusi keluarga, kepentingan rumah, dan perumahan di Malaysia dan juga di negera-negara jiran serantau. Dalam hakikatnya, keperluan dan permintaan terhadap pembagunan perumahan di Malaysia terus meningkat sejajar dengan perkembangan penduduk. Pemilikan rumah juga dilihat penting kepada ekonomi sesebuah negara, kerana rumah bukan sahaja merupakan barangan pengguna tetapi juga barangan pelaburan. Pelaburan dalam perumahan pula akan memberi kesan berganda kepada pelaburan sektor yang lain. Oleh itu, pemilikan perumahan di Malaysia, dan di negara-negara jiran lainnya, bukan sahaja dapat mewujudkan kestabilan dan ekonomi yang sihat, tetapi pemilikan perumahan juga dapat merangsang kesejahteraan sosial komuniti sesebuah negara.KATA KUNCI: Kesejahteraan Sosial; Pembangunan Sosial; Pemilikan Rumah; Kerja Sosial; Masyarakat Malaysia. ABSTRACT: “Social Welfare and Housing”. Social welfare is an important element that must be nurtured and owned by every citizen in a country. In the context of national development, social well-being fully assessed when people acquire the rights and opportunities which should be obtained. A stable level of social welfare is very important in the modern community, since most of them had been exposed to the right and the opportunity to realize the potential of their social life. Among the main measures of social welfare is an opportunity to enjoy a positive impact on the provision of adequate housing and affordable. Thus, the main goal of this paper is to look at the importance of the development of social welfare, especially in the context of the importance of house ownership. This study, by using the method of qualitative and its explanation descriptively, also underlines the need for the house for the family institution, the importance of housing, and housing in Malaysia and the neighbouring countries. In reality, the needs and demands for housing development in Malaysia continue to increase in tandem with the development of the population. House ownership is also seen as important to the economy of a country, as house is not merely consumer goods but also investment goods. Investment in housing will also give the multi-implications toward the investment in other sectors. Abstract

ABSTRACT: There are many factors that influence academic performance of students. Some of these are related to personological, sociological, and psychological factors. In recent years, academic achievement and performance have been linked to several psychological factors. Two of these psychological factors, that may have direct impact or influence to academic performance, are curiosity and epistemological beliefs. In this study, the organization and legibility of the subjects’ writing before and after the use of Brain Gym activities were described. The pre-experimental design, specifically the One Group Pre-test – Post-test, was utilized to examine the grade 1 pupils’ writing performance in the areas of length of output. The respondents were composed of 4 pupils, who have a variety of writing concerns, ranging from getting started, organization, attention to details, and producing sufficient output or length of writing. It was concluded that Brain Gym, a movement-based learning exercise, was an effective activity for enhancing grade 1 pupils’ writing concerns, specifically in terms of neatness, legibility, writing on and following blue-red-blue lines as well as correct spacing between letters and words. Pupils under the Brain Gym conditions tended to write more words. Brain Gym exercises brought excitement, cheerfulness, and relaxed mood among pupils. It is recommended that time be allotted for the use of Brain Gym exercises, due to it can be utilized as unfreezing activity for enhancement of writing performance among pupils.KEY WORD: Brain Gym; Writing Performance; Legibility; Length of Output; Organization; Writing Concerns. RESUME: “Efektivitas Kegiatan Senam Otak dalam Meningkatkan Kinerja Menulis Siswa Kelas I”. Ada banyak faktor yang mempengaruhi prestasi akademik siswa. Beberapa di antaranya berkaitan dengan faktor personologis, sosiologis, dan psikologis. Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, prestasi dan kinerja akademik telah dikaitkan dengan beberapa faktor psikologis. Dua faktor psikologis ini, yang mungkin berdampak langsung atau berpengaruh pada kinerja akademis, adalah keingintahuan dan kepercayaan epistemologis. Dalam penelitian ini, organisasi dan keterbacaan tulisan subjek sebelum dan sesudah penggunaan kegiatan Senam Otak dijelaskan. Desain pra-eksperimental, khususnya Pre-test – Post-tes Satu Grup, digunakan untuk menguji kinerja tulis murid kelas 1 di bidang panjang dan luaran. Responden terdiri dari 4 siswa, yang memiliki berbagai masalah menulis, mulai dari persiapan, pengorganisasian, perhatian terhadap perincian, dan menghasilkan luaran atau lama penulisan yang cukup. Disimpulkan bahwa Senam Otak, sebuah gerakan berbasis pembelajaran, adalah kegiatan yang efektif untuk meningkatkan perhatian siswa kelas 1, khususnya dalam hal kerapian, keterbacaan, penulisan dan garis biru-merah-biru berurutan, dan jarak antara huruf dan kata yang benar. Siswa di bawah kondisi Senam Otak cenderung untuk menulis lebih banyak kata. Latihan Senam Otak membawa kegembiraan, keceriaan, dan suasana santai di kalangan siswa. Dianjurkan agar waktu diberikan untuk penggunaan latihan Senam Otak ini, sebab ianya dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai aktivitas tanpa henti untuk meningkatkan kinerja menulis di kalangan siswa.KATA KUNCI: Senam Otak; Kinerja Menulis; Keterbacaan; Panjang Luaran; Organisasi; Perihal Menulis.    About the Authors: Jose M. Abstract

SOSIOHUMANIKA: Jurnal Pendidikan Sains Sosial dan Kemanusiaan. This journal, with print ISSN 1979-0112, was firstly published on May 20, 2008 in the context to commemorate One Millenium of National Awakening Day in Indonesian. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is published twice a year i.e. every May and November. For period 2013 to 2018, the SOSIOHUMANIKA journal has been accredited by Ditjendikti Kemdikbud RI (Directorate-General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia).
