Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper outlines the concepts used by John Dewey to articulate the importance of relating instruction to personal and broader experience. In other words, a Deweyan interpretation of the terms “correlation” (in part, the integration of disciplinary study and human experience) and “recapitulation” (in part, we can come to understand the evolution of human knowledge) hold the key to educational history’s resuscitation and reintegration into Ontario teacher education. Further, this paper argues that history of education, which is presently on the periphery of teacher education curricula across Canada, is vital. The key to justifying and securing a place for humanistic disciplines in professional teacher preparation programs, which are highly influenced by accountability considerations, is by repositioning them as vibrant disciplines of study that relate to or elucidate contemporary concerns and debates. In order to achieve this, we must place greater emphasis on the manner of instruction and presentation, the “how”, than on the content, the “what”, so that history will be perceived of as a purposeful reflective activity and not mindless drill and fact.KEY WORDS: history of education, teacher education, literature, John Dewey, reflective practice, self-study, and teacher induction.About the Author: Dr. Theodore Michael Christou is a Lecturer and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education UNB (University of New Brunswick), Office 311-1A, PO Box 4400, Fredericton, NB Canada. Abstract

ABSTRACT: There are an effort of dessiminating the message of Islam among the Indian Muslim in Malaysia. This attempts have been performed by Malay and Indian Muslim themselves. However, there is no clear involvement of the government activities of preaching to this community, particularly in assisting some Indian Muslim organisations. Apart from PERKIM, who purposely established for uplifting the welfare of newconverts, it is noted that no massive effort attempted by the government in order to solve many problems among this community. Until now, there are no serious effort to discuss the problem of Indian Muslims in the national level initiated by the government. In fact, the cooperation between non-government preaching organisation are loose pertaining to this matter. Nevertheless, such activities which were practiced by these group would at least maintan the slow but continuous process of preaching among Indian community in the country. One may also predict that there might be several preaching organisations would emerge to lead the India community into Islam if they are able to maintain and upgred their activities from time to time.KEY WORDS: preaching, humanity, government and non-government preaching organisation, and Indian Muslim in Malaysia.About the Author: Assoc. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Traditionally, ocean is seen as the source of inspiration in the quest for truth that denies the theory of worldview which is always related to myths and superstitions. Ocean has its advantage to tie relationship between nations, to form the will of togetherness, to understand each other as well as to generate wealth. It is priceless treasure which cannot be traded and changed. On the contrary, ocean can also be regarded as a conflict zone that has brought the fall of many ancient traditional civilizations and caused the distant relationship between nations. In relation to this, this article will review the importance of observation relating to maritime aspects of this region and the ability of maritime in re-uniting modern countries of South East Asia that have destroyed due to past colonization. To realize the mission and vision of uniting the nations of this region, a paradigm shift in the government policy as well as in the mind of the people should first be done, i.e. to see oceans as an uniting factor not as separator. In a bigger framework, all nations of this region should instil the determination and awareness that the historical and cultural maritime of Southeast Asia belongs to everybody and it is the joint heritage of every states and nations in this region.       KEY WORDS: Ocean, united nation, islands of South East Asia, archipelago, and the history of maritime.About the Author: Assoc. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Political leadership of woman in Islam in Nusantara (Indonesia) has been existing long time ago. But in Indonesia, its discourse more existed at the end of the 19th century. The strength of current understanding of woman political leadership as a leader (imam) in shalat (praying), it used at home and in the politics area becoming a status quo. The decision of MUI (Majlis Ulama Indonesia or Indonesian Ulema Council) – that forbids a woman to be a President – is not represent an acclamation in a comprehensive collective intellectual voluntary agreement, but the majority. Finally, their opinion has been dissociated by itself from the reality of leadership with division of duty from collective modern political leadership. The division of this duty made the leadership of woman can be realized in the politics area. Therefore, the political leadership of woman in its practical reality doesn’t have any resistance taken as forbidden reasons of the woman leadership, both from religion and ideological view.KEY WORDS: gender, feminism, imām, woman study, ijtihād, and Islamic society in Indonesia.About the Author: Dr. Haji Endis Firdaus is a Lecturer at the Study Program of Islamic Education, Faculty of Social Studies Education UPI (Indonesia University of Education), Jalan Dr. Setiabudhi No.229 Bandung 40154, West Java, Indonesia. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Historical interpretation must look for what people did on their historical circle. On one hand, history hermeneuitcs is an effort to understand people’s self-knowledge that what people know is a truth or a reality from their own worldview. On the other hand, history hermeneutics tries to make a new perspective that what happen now is unseparable from past. This is why hermeneutics of history might be used to make  an interpretation about the truth itself. Based on history hermeneutics, I try to make an analysis about Chinese and Moluccans contact during spices trade period. This study based on social changes in Maluku on economic and social life. I want to study the mutual economic model by Asian, something different with economic model by European which so politically.KEY WORDS: history hermeneutics, social changes, interpretation and understanding, and Chinese and Moluccans relations in Maluku.About the Author: Bety D.S.
