Abstract

AbstractMisconception is a concept that is not according to the concept recognized by the experts. The electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions material are chemistry materials in senior high school  that is always misconception. This research aimed at knowing whether there was or not student misconception, its percentage on electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions material and the cause  of student misconception that was identified by using four-tier multiple choice diagnostic instruments. This research was a descriptive research. The Purposive sampling technique  was used in taking the sample. Four-tier diagnostic test, documentation, observation and interview techniques were used for collecting the data. The findings of this research showed that the misconception happened in electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions material. The analyzed data showed that the average of student understanding levels were as follows: student who understood concept (16%), student who misconceived (28,67%), student who did not understand concept (24%) and student guessing (31,33%). Based on interview conducted to student about the causes  of misconception could be stated as follows: the teacher made student hard to understand the material and student did not repeat the material given by teacher, so misconception happened to students. Keywords : Misconception, Four-Tier Diagnostic Test, Electrolyte and Nonelectrolyte Solutions

Abstract

AbstractThis research was instigated by student workbook integrating Chemistry material with STEM that was not yet available.  Since the outbreak of COVID-19, WHO has recommended to temporarily suspend activities that could potentially cause crowds. Therefore, the learning process is carried out online during COVID-19 emergency period.  One alternative supporting the online learning process was by using Moodle learning media in which there was Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) based student workbook.  This research aimed at knowing the validity and practicality levels of STEM based student workbook on Acid Base lesson.  It was Research and Development (R&D) with Borg and Gall development model, but it was only until the fifth stagerevising the initial form of the product.  This research was conducted to the twelfth-grade students of MIPA 4 at State Senior High School 2 Tambang.  Interview, questionnaire, and documentation were the techniques of collecting the data.  The research findings showed that STEM based student workbook got the validity percentages from media and material experts continuously 93.75% and 82.2% with very valid criteria, while the validity percentage of Moodle learning media was 78.46%.   The practicality percentage of the workbook was 90% with very practical criterion, and the workbook got positive and good student response with the percentage 90%.Keywords: Student Workbook, STEM, Acid Base, Moodle Learning Media

Abstract

This research aimed at seeing the effect of Advance Organizer (AO) learning model with Dart Board media toward student critical thinking ability on Reaction Rate lesson at the eleventh grade of Natural Science of Islamic Integrated Senior High School of Al-Ittihad Pekanbaru.  It was a quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest design.  The subjects of this research were the eleventh-grade students of Natural Science in the Academic Year of 2019/2020.  Purposive sampling technique was used in this research, so there were 2 sample classes—the eleventh-grade students of Pa Natural Science (experimental group) and the students of Pi Natural Science (control group). The data were collected through observation, preliminary data test that was homogeneity test, and final data tests that were pretest and posttest.  Independent sample t-test with SPSS 21 was used to know and analyze the effect of AO learning model with Dart Board media toward student critical thinking ability.  Based on the result of processing the final data, it was obtained that the score of Sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 was lower than 0.05 (0.000<0.05).  It could be concluded that Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected.  It showed that there was an effect of AO learning model with Dart Board media toward student critical thinking ability at the eleventh grade of Natural Science of Islamic Integrated Senior High School of Al-Ittihad Pekanbaru.  To know the effect of AO learning model with Dart Board media toward student critical thinking ability, it was done the calculation of determination coefficient (r2), and it was obtained the coefficient of effect 54.43%.

Abstract

Design and trial of the covid 19 pandemic practicum using kitchen materials and tools on acid-base indicator materials have been implemented using R&D approaches. in this research using five stages of development. The results showed that the average value of the practicum guide in terms of material, media and teacher assessment was 4.96 respectively; 4.87; 4.76. With the percentage values obtained respectively 99.2%, 97.4%, and 95.2%. The practicum guide can be used as a reference for students in practicum and can be used as a reference for teachers in guiding students.Keywords: acids and bases, indicators, kitchen materials and tools, R&D research

Abstract

Abstract This research was instigated by Chemistry learning at State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru dominated by discussion method and the low of student score on Atomic Structure lesson in the Academic Year of 2018/2019.  It aimed at knowing the effect of implementing Two Stay Two Stray model toward student communication skill and learning achievement on Atomic Structure lesson.  It was an Quasy Experimental research with True Experimental Pretest Posttest Control-Group design.  Random Sampling was used in this research.  The samples of this research were the tenth-grade students of MIPA 2 as the Control group and the students of MIPA 5 as the Experimental group.  The instruments of collecting the data were learning achievement test and questionnaire that was supported by observation sheet and documentation.  Based on the research findings of learning achievement, it was obtained that tobserved was 3.41 and ttable was 2.00, and it showed that tobserved was higher than ttable.  It showed that there was an effect on learning achievement, and the effect was 14.2%.  Based on the research finding of communication skill, it was obtained that tobserved was 2.95 and ttable was 2.00, and it showed that tobserved was higher than ttable.  It showed that there was an effect on communication skill and the effect was 11%. Keywords : Two Stay Two Stray Model, Communication Skill, Learning Achievement, Atomic Structure.

Abstract

AbstractThe lack of learning resource availability developed in the school constituted a background of this research.  Thus, developing chemistry pocket book teaching material with Green Chemistry oriented Chemo-Entrepreneurship approach on Acid Base Lesson was designed in this research.  4-D development model was used in this research until Develop stage.  The subjects of this research were a media expert lecturer, a material expert teacher, 2 Senior High School teachers for media practicality test, and 10 students at State Senior High School 4 Pekanbaru for knowing the response to the media.  Data collected in this research were in the forms of interview and questionnaire.  Instruments of collecting data were validity and response questionnaires.  The data obtained were analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis techniques.  Based on the research findings, the media validation percentages were 91.30% by the material expert and 89.28% by the media expert with very valid assessment criteria, the percentage of teacher practicality test was 95% with very practical criterion.Keywords : Pocket Book, Chemo-Entrepreneurship Approach, Green Chemistry, Acid Base

Abstract

AbstractThe lack of media variation used constituted a background of this research.  Student concept comprehension was not yet supported, and the media often used were student conventional workbook and exercises. This research aimed at developing daily life-based student electronic workbook on Hydrocarbon Compounds lesson by using Borg and Gall development model to know validity and practicality levels of the workbook.  It was Research and Development (R&D). 5 of 10 steps in Borg and Gall development model were used in this research, they were collecting data, planning, developing a product, preliminary testing.  Testing was conducted to a chemistry subject teacher and 10 of the eleventh-grade students of MIPA at Senior High School of Islam As-Shofa Pekanbaru.  The data obtained were analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis techniques.  Daily life-based student electronic workbook on Hydrocarbon Compounds lesson was tested very valid with the percentages 90% by media experts and 92% by material experts, the percentage of practicality test by teacher was 91.42%, and the workbook got good student responses.  Based on these findings, it could be concluded that daily life-based student electronic workbook on Hydrocarbon Compounds lesson was valid and practical, so it was proper to be used as a learning media at school. Keywords:    Student Electronic Workbook, Daily Life, Hydrocarbon Compounds Lesson

Abstract

AbstractThis research was instigated by the implementation of chemistry learning that needed student-centered learning interactions by implementing Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) and Numbered Heads Together (NHT) types of cooperative learning.  This research aimed at knowing the difference on learning achievement between students taught by using STAD model and those who were taught by using NHT model on Salt Hydrolysis lesson.  The eleventh-grade students of Natural Science at State Senior High School 1 Pasir Penyu in the Academic Year of 2018/2019 were the population of this research.  Purposive sampling technique was used in this research, and there were 33 students as the samples in experiment 1 and experiment 2 groups.  The research findings showed that the increase of learning achievement of students taught by using STAD model was 18.06, and the mean increase of learning achievement of students taught by using NHT model was 14.60.  Besides, based on the statistical analysis, it was obtained that there was a difference on learning achievement between students taught by using STAD model and those who were taught by using NHT model on Salt Hydrolysis lessonat State Senior High School 1 Pasir Penyu, tobserved was higher than ttable (2.063>1.997) and the score of sig was lower than 0.05, so H0 was rejected..Keywords: NHT, Salt Hydrolysis, STAD
