Abstract

AbstrakOne of the determinant factors in the process of Islamization of the archipelago is the intersection between Islamic teachings and local wisdom. The encounter of the two has apparently brought an esoteric way. In this case, the Islamic esoteric teaching namely Sufism has become important. However, there was another esoteric element which also has a main role in the process, namely the mystical insight as to the result of the synthesis of the Islamic esoteric teaching and the indigenous mystical tradition. Using the ethnographic approach, this article aims to provide a preliminary remark on the intersection between Islam and local mystic tradition as represented by “pananyaan” and “ahli hikmah” in Sundanese people, especially in Tasikmalaya, as the reference. He is regarded as the “learned man” a place for someone to ask, especially related to the world of unseen.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the growing discourse on religious education-based multicultural, then reorienting the discourse according to the concept of tasamuh. This study, with a qualitative analysis of literature, found that the instigators of the concept of multiculturalism had enough influence Muslims so that religious education should be reorientated. Reorientation does with reconciling tasamuh in religious education-based multicultural. This reorientation is important, because the mission of multicultural education containing religious pluralism, humanism, and democracy, can not be an alternative in the practice of religious education. If this model is applied in education, then this could threaten the faith and morals of students, especially for Muslim students. In society, Islam has implemented the concept of tasa>muh}. With this concept, Islam made it easier for other people to not disturb the faith of Muslims. This reorientation is very appropriate for addressing diversity, with formulations that do not harm the unity of the nation, at the same time the Islamic faith was still solid.

Abstract

The study attempts to look at the existing inter-religious peace and harmony in Manado. The focus is an attempt to compare between Manado and Ambon which are similar in terms of demographic composition, historical background, political and cultural values but at the same time both are different; the former was in conflict, while the latter was an area of peace during the conflict escalation that engulfed some parts of East Indonesia. This study also tries to look at the strategy of Christian and Muslim communities in both cities in dealing with social tensions. In addition, this article specifically tries to explain factors that contribute to the presence of peace in Manado and its absence in Ambon. Subsequently, attention is also paid to the impact and mechanisms used by the elite in maintaining peace in Manado. This study uncovers some interesting findings. First, there are five elements that support the existence of peace in Manado: education, cultural values (local wisdom), economic situations, spiritual understanding, and the role of the elite. Second, inter-religious peace and harmony can exist in Manado, because of the synergy and cooperation of these three levels of leadership. Third, although the theory of Lederach seems to suggest that top-level leaders are the most dominant element of the elite, it is found that the role of grassroots leaders including leaders of congregations (imam, ustadz, clergymen, and priests) is more vital as their more directly involved in the daily activities of society. Fourth, the mechanisms of these elites seem to be various in every stage of leadership.

Abstract

This article offers a study of h}udu>di> (limit) in Islamic family law contained in the Indonesian Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI). The study of h}udu>di is nothing other than the process of desacralization that KHI becomes progressive in line with the development of modernity and in the context of Indonesian-ness. To that end, this article makes two efforts, firstly, by rejecting the idea that gives no attention to limit in one hand, and secondly, by strengthening the thoughts of scholars who offer new ijtihad both in its concept until to methodology. Thought that strengthens it came from Syrian figure, namely Muh}ammad Shah}ru>r, through a plausibility structure. His study of hudud supported Nurcholish Madjid idea about the de-sacralization, so as to perform the coherence between KHI to human rights issues, democracy, nation-state, civil society, and constitutionalism. So this article supports the spirit of de-sacralization - in addition to not abandon its sacralization - initiated by Nurcholish Madjid. The source of this study is KHI, by using the hudud paradigm, that based on a maxim of sabat al-nas wa harakah al-muhtawa, meaning that the text is permanent , but the content moves. So that the rule of law is always rooted in liminality based on the text, which is the pivot of study centered on the text toward the context, not vice versa.

Abstract

The issue of politics and ethics are two sides of a coin that invited attention of medieval scholars both in the West and the Islamic world. Although interrelated, but the implementation raises the difference between the two worlds. For the Western world, represented by Machiavelli, politics and ethics should be separated. A ruler should not be bound by ethics and tradition, and does not need to obey the law. In domestic relations affairs, a ruler must collect on his love and fear of people. While in foreign affairs, a ruler must reflect "a smart wolf and a strong lion. As for the world of Islam represented by al-Mawardi, politics and ethics cannot be separated. Even the basics of government, he said, are inspired by Islamic values based on the Qur'an and Hadith. Even a ruler must have and improve its ethical because it is a basic rule.

Abstract

The metaphor is one of the main problems in translation because it covers the whole figurative language uses. It also includes the most figurative language used in the Qur’an. Different theories and approaches have been proposed with regard to metaphor translation. In this paper, I favor using a lexicological metaphor concepts that proposed by Dickin, where the dictionary becomes the main source of the analysis. This paper is analyzing and comparing the translation of metaphor in Qur’an and their corresponding translated English versions through the two selected translations. The data analyzed consists of ten examples representing two types of metaphor in this paper; both are lexicalized and nonlexicalized metaphor. The findings obtained from the analyses of the related data show that there are some techniques of metaphor translation of the Qu’ran, although every translator does not constantly translate metaphor with the same technique in the same type.

Abstract

This article discusses the mindset of Arab society towards religion which is answered and it was changed after the Koran came. This relationship is dialectic, the Arab community as khitab al-Qur’an. The approach used by the social history of social psychoanalysis. With this approach, this article found some important conclusions.  (1) Social history emphasizes that geographic factors, psychological, and social culture have shaped their social siko. Psycho-social impact on their perspectives on God and Religion. God was related to a god (dewa) who can help the biological necessities of life, although not psychologically soothing. As the unsound of the psico-social condition, the way they understand the religions is not correct. They profess religion, somehow does not feel the presence of God. The more they worship Gods, the more discrepancies, social injustices, and tyranny happen. Responding to that matter, the Quran apply persuasive method as the advice (al-din al-nasihah), and discussion (jidal) as their way of thought on religion. (2) The Qur'an came alter their patterns of psychological evolution, from an-nafs al-ammara as bi-su’ society into an-nafs al-lawwamah, until in the end, they had a quiet soul (an-nafs al-Mutmainnah)

Abstract

Materialism is an understanding that states that something invisible (can’t be sensed) did not exist. That is, the unseen world (including God, angels, jinn, etc.) does not exist. Because it can’t be sensed by humans. So if so, how Islam views the concept? Where in the Islamic religion teaches the unseen world which is summarized in the pillars of faith. Automatic if Muslims agree with the materialism, then it will greatly affect the faith. For this reason, this paper tries to explain the essence of the concept of Materialism, by reviewing the definition and history, which at this time will review the opinions of the philosophers of ancient Greece is also one of the teachings of India, Carvaka. Abstract

The emergence of Islamic banking was considered as a response to the desire of Muslim communities to disassociate from usury (riba based) system. The development of time increasing the diversity of financial transactions, both in trading and banking business, which has no provisions in the old sources of Islamic jurisprudence. This dangerous phenomenon was the reason for the importance of a Sharia Supervisory Board to ensure all of banking transactions comply with the rules and principles of sharia. This research focused on the role of National Sharia Board and his methodology in fatwa. This research uses analytical descriptive methodology. The limitations of this research were about:  how the National Sharia Board played their roles in Indonesia and how the method applied by the National Sharia Board in issuing a fatwa.  The research found that: the National Sharia Board in Indonesia has played their roles, especially in developing Islamic finance industry, ensuring financial and banking transaction comply with the rules and principles of sharia, and providing awareness and guidance to the Muslim communities. The issuing of fatwa on financial transactions was the authority of the National Sharia Board. The National Sharia Board hold on procedures, specific steps, and certain agreed methodology in issuing fatwa.
