Abstract

This study aims to examine religious literacy practices of traditional Islamic boarding school known as Pesantren in addressing the social-religious polarization issue in Indonesia. This study employs phenomenology method with a sociology of religion approach emphasizing the religious literacy outlook. Religious literacy entails a comprehensive approach to understanding the various concept of religiosity in a plural society and adds to it the ability to critically reflect on the fundamental intersections of religion and social, political, and cultural life through multiple lenses (Moore, 2007). Data is collected through library research, field observations, structured interviews involving pesantren’s leaders, teachers and students in Pesantren Al-Muayyad, Windan, Surakarta. Discussion result shows that: 1) through a dynamic power and network mobilization, Kyai plays the role of a strategic religious actor who translates religious pluralism to the public — facilitating pesantren as community development center where authentic and meaningful socio-religious interactions among students takes place; and 2) to build a resilient faith community member, Al-Muayyad Windan designed three integrative stages of religious literacy enhancement i.e., religious literacy at the personal level, religious literacy at the intrareligious level, and religious literacy at the interreligious level.

Abstract

Studies on the impact of disasters on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the halal food sector are often ignored by researchers and academics, even though these studies are needed to mitigate the risks from natural disasters. This study explores the impact of disasters on MSMEs, especially those engaged in the halal food sector. The research methodology used was phenomenology, with the data source being MSME actors in the halal food sector who were affected by the disaster in Palu City. The results of this study provide a conceptual framework for disaster impacts, which include direct and indirect impacts on physical assets, human resources, raw materials, production, sales, and capital. The relationship between the impact of the disaster and economic actors in the halal food sector breaks the supply chain in impacted and non-impacted areas. Therefore, the aim of this research is to provide information for business actors in Palu city to redesign a safer and more controlled business concept in the event of a natural disaster in the future.

Abstract

Research and development require tools to approach and obtain an overview of the system, these tools include interviews, questionnaires, surveys, observations, and others. QS An-Nahl Verse 43 is a popular verse that is widely used to represent appropriate to ask, this terminology is closely related to what is known as a sample. However, in contrast to the sample, the meaning intended by the verse is beyond the scope of the sample, in this study, it is termed as 'Amid. In market research, such as research on how well educational products are produced by universities, the number of response rates affects the conclusions that are built, so the sampling approach does not correlate well. The research uses 'Amid, as an approach model that is able to increase the response rate and at the same time the best reference in questioning the assessment of higher education products that are the object of research. The study found that the 'Amid' model has more quality data than the commonly used survey approach with a better travel time. The next research is suggested to try the implementation of the 'Amid' model in market research for other products.

Abstract

Based on the Western value system, research on the psychological contract has received immense attention from human resources management researchers.  However, psychological contract from the spiritual perspective has not been much explored. This empirical study attempts to enrich the understanding of the psychological contract phenomenon from a spiritual perspective. This is a research paper to explore the dimensionalities of a spiritual psychological contract with examined both inner (structure) and outer (measurement) models via Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). A survey of 108 employees in business organizations in Indonesia, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and Taiwan was drawn for the study using a nonprobability convenience sampling procedure to obtain a more representative sample. The construct validity of the spiritual psychological contract (SPC) via SmartPLS 3.2.7 software led to the major finding; the SPC measurement model in the business organizational context is explained by three components i.e., transactional, relational, and liturgical contract. This is a new insight into psychological contract research and needs further studies to explore it.

Abstract

This article sets out the use of orality as an element in the interpretation of the Qur’an. Oralities in the Qur'an, such as rhyme, sound structure, and diction used in the Qur’an, are frequently regarded as part of the Qur’an’s miracles and are hardly linked with Qur’an interpretation. Indeed, the orality component is closely related to the messages found in the Qur’an. This article demonstrates that rhyme and sound structure are essential characteristics employed by the Qur’an to deliver messages through recognizing orality as an indispensable aspect of the Qur’an’s construction. Both can be perceived psychologically by listeners or readers of the Qur’an. Specific dictions in some verses were also employed as a medium to communicate the Qur'an's worldview while rejecting Arab society’s views at the time. Orality has become a prominent feature of Qur’an interpretation.

Abstract

Considering the history of ash-Shinqeeti nawazils and jurisprudence, one can clearly realize how diverse and rich are the references and sources as well as the phrasings and content of them. The preferences and output of this school are diverse and rich, too. Broadly, this school adheres and is obligated to what is well-known in the Maliki and Qasemi approaches, thus opposing those who go beyond the scope of these approaches. There are different factors bringing about diversity in ash-Shinqeeti fatwa-making, which have been dealt with in the present research. The most important factors are perhaps the approaches used in its fatwa-making. Among those approaches, the Moroccan one is of paramount importance, considering that this society is geographically close and has social and spiritual influences, and therefore significantly contributes to the improvement of knowledge of authors and their works. Still the Egyptian approach has been influential in ash-Shinqeeti jurisprudence and knowledge. In other words, the Egyptian Maliki school has majorly influenced authors and their publications. Among the most well-known publications is Mokhtasar by Khalil al-Jondi, which has been authored within the framework of Maliki jurisprudence, as well as Alfiyyah, which centers around syntax, among other works. The other influential approach is the Andalusian one, which extends on the Moroccan approach. The diversity of approaches and sources have helped to enrich knowledge, making the language used in fatwa-making inclusive. There are other also aspects which have been discussed in this brief research.

Abstract

This paper explored al-Farabi’s and Thomas Aquinas’ ideas on politics, especially on the form of government. Medieval centuries remarked new formulations of political philosophy which was different from its Greek predecessors. Although almost impossible to totally detach from ancient Greek political ideas, medieval philosophers had attempted to adapt, renew and reformulate Greek political philosophy so as to fit with their circumstances. Al-Farabi and Thomas Aquinas were among attractive and influential philosophers who undertook this task of the reformulation of political ideas. Among new things inserted into ancient political philosophy by al-Farabi and Aquinas were political ideas of their religious teachings and the needs of their contemporary political situation. Referring to their writing on politics, both al-Farabi and Aquinas seemed to favor monarchy or a single supreme ruler as the best regime. However, a close investigation on their political ideas opened other possibilities of the forms of government when the situation of such ideal regime did not apply.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the level of religious understanding radicalism among students of the Public Faculty and Religious Faculty, respectively. The initial hypothesis was that the level of religious understanding radicalism of the students in the Public Faculty would be higher than that of the students in the Religious Faculty. The research employed an ex post facto method and used t-test to analyze the data. The study was conducted in 2018 at the State Islamic Institute of Surakarta, an Islamic religious college in Surakarta. The research population consisted of all students from 22 departments in the academic year of 2016, totaling 10,980 people. Samples were drawn from each department, with a quota of 10 students per department, resulting in a total of 220 sample members. The data collection used a questionnaire of religious understanding radicalism, which was tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis included a sample randomness test, data normality test, and variant homogeneity test. The results showed that although the level of religious understanding radicalism was higher among students in the Public Faculty than those in the Religious Faculty, the hypothesis was not statistically proven. The study suggests that religious education cannot be solely correlated with formal education background and that students' interactions with extra campus organizations, both on and off-campus, play a significant role in shaping their religious understanding radicalism. Additionally, the religious education process in the Public Faculty at the State Islamic Institute of Surakarta could make students more moderate in their religious understanding.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to describe pluralism in society and active efforts or positive interactions in the pluralistic environment to create harmony, tolerance, and mutual respect. This research employs qualitative analysis and descriptive analysis as its technique for analyzing the data. The researcher uses his logic when discussing this research, in which the researcher is an instrument of the research. The validity of the result of this research is carried out by data triangulation analysis. The process of validating the result is also carried out with a focus group discussion which involves seven expert lecturers in the history of civilization. In practice, recognition can be made verbally, in documents, and in behavior (attitude). Active efforts or positive interactions can be in the form of mutual cooperation activities, willingness to get along, helping each other, visiting each other, gathering in a forum to solve a problem, or other activities. In principle, conflicts that have occurred in Surakarta can be identified and triggered by several factors: ethnics factors; political factors (macro politics, national and micropolitics, regional; economic factors (the dominant factor); the factor of social segregation, which consists of social segregation based on ethnic trading area, social segregation based on religious territory, and cultural segregation between the Kasunanan and Mangkunegaran communities having different characteristics.
