Abstract

This research study aims at: (1) finding out the forms of difficulties in writing in vocabulary and grammar of the second year students of SMP 1 Selong East Lombok West Nusa Tenggara in the school year 2008/2009, and (2) finding out the causal factors of difficulties in writing in vocabulary and grammar of the second year students of SMP 1 Selong East Lombok West Nusa Tenggara in the school year 2008/2009. The study was a case study. It used a qualitative positivistic descriptive approach. The participants consisted of 34 students. The main data were obtained from the 34 students’ compositions. The other data were collected from observation, interviews, and recording. The results show that (1) eight most common errors of students’ writing were: verb-tenses, articles, word forms, capital letters, punctuation, missing words, spelling, and prepositions; (2) verb-tense errors occupied the first rank (23.76%), followed by article errors (20.85%), and word form errors (10.62%); (3) two kinds of direct factors caused the students to make errors in the writing skills were: negative interlanguage and intralingual transfers in the forms of adverb interference, copulative verb interference, word-order interference, tense-form interference, overgeneralization, ignorance of rule restriction, and incomplete application of rules; and (4) five sources of indirect factors caused the students to make errors in the writing skills were: students’ low motivation, lack of use of media, low frequency of the writing instruction, lack of parents’ support, and loose control of students’ learning.

Abstract

Salah satu kelemahan yang dimilliki oleh sebagian besar siswa, terutama siswa kelas XI MA Muallimat NW Pancor, yaitu, (1) lemah dalam proses berpikir kritis dan sikap, (2) kegiatan pembelajaran cenderung pasif, (3) sulit bekerja dalam kelompok, cenderung individualistis, (5) kurang termotivasi di dalam KBM. Untuk meminimalisasi kelemahan di atas peneliti mencoba menggunakan pembelajaran dengan model daur belajar (learning cycle). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa penggunaan model daur belajar (learning cycle) lebih efektif secara sangat signifikan dibandingkan dengan pendekatan konvensional terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis dan sikap siswa. Kata Kunci: daur belajar (learning cycle), kemampuan berpikir kritis, sikap

Abstract

This study aims at finding out the meaning of education and education science in Nahdlatul Wathan Institution in the book “Sejarah Visi Kebangsaan dan Religius: Refeleksi Pemikiran dan Perjuangan Tuan Guru Kyai Haji Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid 1904-1997). This study is categorized into Historic Research (the history of education) through critical hermeneutics of some (non) written historic sources. Based on the critical analysis results can be understood that early, Nahdhatul Wathan as educational institution is a tool of social reconstruction through religious education because of the social and political conditions in that time. And the further development, Nahdlatul Wathan Education is not only as a tool but also a final object because of education is considered as a need to accumulate the social development. Nowadays, Nahddatul Wathan Education is understood as a tool and final object. In the science of education, the meaning of Nahdlatul Wathan education as a tool and a final object is supported by some components of education science standard, such as foundation and principles, function, content, objective, method, formal and material objects.          Keywords: Meaning of Education

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the: (1) forms of community participation in administering elementary school at Perigi, (2) strategies to increase the community participation in administering elementary school at Perigi, and (3) obstacles of community participation in administering elementary school at Perigi. This study is an empirical study using a descriptive qualitative approach. The subject of research was determined using the purposive sampling method. Data collected through observation, interview, documentation, and were analyzed using the Interactive Model techniques from Miles and Huberman. Subject In this study, school principals, heads of school committees, young people, and community. The result of analysis shows that: (1) the people at Perigi only participated when they were asked to share work in building school facilities, but they are not involved in planning, conducting, and evaluating. (2) school principals, together with the heads of school committees, come to the community only when some students are absent from school, but no efforts or strategies conducted by the school and local government to increase the community participation in other ways, (3) The obstacles for community participation in running elementary education at Perigi are the low level of educational background of the community, the low level of people’s income, and the culture.Keywords: community participation, primary school, Lombok Timur

Abstract

This study aims to describe roles of Teacher Work Group (TWG) as an organization to develop teachers’ professionalism, and its roles to improve science teachers’ professionalism. This study was a descriptive qualitative study. The data were collected through observations, interviews, and documents. The data trustworthiness in this study was established by using several steps including careful observations, triangulation, referential adequacy, and consultations with supervisors. The findings in this study reveal that TWG as an organization to develop teachers’ professionalism conducts a meeting once a week and the majority of the participants attend it in accordance with the schedule set before. In playing its roles, TWG actively takes part in responding to the problems that teachers face in Cluster 3 and the participants take an active part in joining the activities and in solving a variety of learning problems that they face. Besides, the roles of TWG in improving science teachers’ professionalism in Cluster 3, the main focus in the TWG activities, are on the aspects directly related to the learning quality improvement such as understanding of the curriculum, mastery of materials, use of instructional media, and use of evaluation methods and techniques. Meanwhile, aspects related to the development of teachers’ personality such as discipline in general and commitment to work do not become the main focus in the TWG activities. Keywords: Roles of Teacher Work Group

Abstract

This research aims to know the implementation of School-Based Curriculum on the subject of Natural Science in Kelayu State Elementary School, in the District of Selong. The focus of the research is to explore the obstacles and the supporting factors in implementing the school based curriculum. This study employs the descriptive-qualitative method. The subjects of the research are the principal, the teachers, and the students. The research data were collected by conducting observation, interviews, and documentation study and analyzed qualitatively using the analysis technique of Huberman. From the result of the research, the researcher finds some descriptions about the implementation of the school-based curriculum. (1) The four state elementary schools have imposed the school-based curriculum since the academic year of 2007/2008. (2) Each school has not had complete instruments for the school-based curriculum. (3) The obstacles encountered by the schools are that (a) they lack the main text-books and other supporting books and the laboratory equipment both for the teacher and for the students in learning activities, which is overcome by asking the teachers to provide handouts and to create simple laboratory Natural Science equipment through Teacher Working Group (KKG), (b) most teachers have not well understood the assessment system in the school-based curriculum, which is overcome by sharing teaching experience in  Teacher Working Group (KKG), (c) most teachers have not been accustomed to giving, correcting, and returning the homework to the students routinely, and (d) the students are not quite active in asking questions and expressing their opinions in the learning process. (4) The supporting factors in implementing the school-based curriculum are that (a) some schools have had complete equipment for laboratory practice of Natural Science to have the students understand the teaching materials easily, (b) the principal gives enough attention to the school-based curriculum and monitors the implementation of it, (c) complete sports facilities are available, and (d) the school environment is rich in the learning sources. In general, there are no different phenomena in the implementation of the school-based curriculum in the four state elementary schools in Kelayu such as South Kelayu Elementary School 1, South Kelayu Elementary School 2, North Kelayu Elementary School 1 and North Kelayu Elementary School 2  regarding the learning process, technical operation, and the availability of learning supporting facilities, whereas the most different factors in the four schools are found in the aspects of collaboration and internal culture of the schools.Keywords: The Implementation of (KTSP), Natural Science (IPA)

Abstract

In binary logistic regression  problem it is common for the two classes to be imbalanced. One case is very rare compared to the other. This paper focus on determining Maximum Likelihood Estimator  on univariate logistic regression for  infinitely unbalanced data response. By finding  the differential of  log-likelihood equation that is resulted, its maximum depend on points    given   through their average  .  Thus we can substitute each  given    with    or substituting all    given     with one   .  If we use    normal distribution for   given     then the slope   can be determined by simple formula   where   and    each an average and variance  for which  .Keywords : Logistic Regression,  MLE,  Infinitely Unbalanced Data Response

Abstract

This research is the development of learning material of 4-D model, which is produce the learning materials covering: learning plan, student book, student activity sheet and the result of testing learning. Those learning materials are tried-out by valuators and later tried-out twice at 39 fourth class students of SDN 15 Mataram in the year of 2008/2009 and at 36 student of SDN 6 Mataram. The implementation of the study consists of three stages i.e., (1) Compilation of learning materials covering learning plan (RP), student book, student activity sheets (LKS), gratings, items test of learning result (THB). At this stage, validation from experts is conducted in each learning materials. (2) Implementation of the learning in the try-out class. (3) Implementation of the learning in the real class. Based on the data analysis it is found that the result of the study is in the form of learning materials, activity and social skill of the students is good and reliable. The result of the data analysis descriptively is obtained the effective cooperative skill with the average of RP 1 = 3.6 and RP 2 = 3.5. It can be concluded that this cooperative learning type Jigsaw can improve the social skill of the students and the result of the student learning of SDN 6 Mataram. Keywords: PKn, Cooperative learning type Jigsaw, student’s social skill
