Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the level of students' thinking ability in solving problems by using Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on fractional material in class VII SMPN 8 Banda Aceh. This research is a classroom action research and done with two cycles and the subject in this research is the students of class VII SMPN 8 Banda Aceh. Data collection techniques include observation, test, and student response questionnaires. This research instrument uses observation sheet, test sheet description, and student response questionnaire. The data obtained is processed by using the percentage in accordance with predetermined effectiveness criteria. The results showed that the application of effective Problem Based Learning model is used to teach the fractional materials in class VII SMPN 8 Banda Aceh. From the final test also shows that 82.05% of students declared complete. Improvement of students' thinking skills taught by Problem Based Learning model is also better than students who are taught by conventional learning model. Abstrak Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan berpikir siswa SMP dalam memecahkan masalah dengan menggunakan model Problem Based Learning (PBL) pada materi pecahan dikelas VII SMPN 8 Banda Aceh. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas dan dilakukan dengan dua siklus dan subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMPN 8 Banda Aceh. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi observasi, tes, dan angket respon siswa. Instrumen penelitian ini menggunakan lembar pengamatan, lembar tes uraian, dan lembar angket respon siswa. Data yang diperoleh diolah dengan menggunakan persentase sesuai dengan kriteria keefektifan yang telah ditentukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning efektif digunakan untuk mengajar pada materi pecahan di kelas VII SMPN 8 Banda Aceh. Dari tes akhir juga menunjukkan bahwa 82,05% siswa dinyatakan tuntas. Peningkatan kemampuan berpikir siswa yang diajar dengan model Problem Based Learning juga lebih baik dari siswa yang diajar dengan model pembelajaran konvesional.
