Abstract

Nowadays the development of thinking skills has become the main focus in educational research. Standard of graduate competency mandate that graduates of schools to universities in Indonesia must have thinking skills.  Related to this, the goal of this quasi-experimental study was to describe the effectivity of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) student worksheets to improve students' critical thinking skills (CTS) in the topic of mixtures separation. This study was carried out in the SMPN 1 Pugung by using the Non-Equivalent (Pretest-Posttest) Control Group Design. The effectivity of PjBL student worksheets measured based on the n-gain and the effect size values. Statistically, the n-gain value of the experimental class was higher than the control class. The effect size value was in medium categorized.  These results indicated that the PjBL student worksheets were effective to improve students' CTS in the topic of mixtures separation. Keywords: student worksheets, project-based learning, critical thinking skills, mixtures separation

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the effectiveness in project-based learning of waste cooking oil recycling to improving students’ high order thinking skills. The research design used was the The Matching-Only Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The population in this research was all of students in grade XI MIA one of Senior High School in Bandarlampung. The sample of the research was the students of class XI MIA 4 and XI MIA 6. The data analysis technique used was non parametric statistic test using Mann Whitney U to postestt value. The results of this study it can be seen from postest value. Postest value in the experiment class that is greater than the postest value in the control class as well as the <g> on the medium categorized in the experimental class and in the low control class indicate that project-based learning of waste cooking oil recycling can improve students' high order thinking skills. Keywords: high order thinking skills, waste cooking oil, project-based learning

Abstract

Community assistance course is a special course for undergraduate student level which need to be finished before doing final thesis project. This course aims to apply the student knowledge which is gained during six semesters in the class. This course is followed by fourty eight students from different department e.g. science, engineering, psychology, law, medicine, and also Islamic studies. We applied a pyrolysis of biomass waste as the tools for Project based learning in community area. We divide fourty eight student into eight teams. Each team was assigned to do some task e.g. literature study, project design, project implementation, and project report based on the pyrolysis project. After the project was finished, we evaluate the grade of each student using the learning outcome which was defined as the goal of the study. Fourty six students acquired grade A, while the other two students acquired grade B. This achievement related to the project based learning that we used in the Community Assistance Course.   Keywords: project-based learning, pyrolysis, community assistance course

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the significant differences of  learning achievement at 10th grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Kalasan between the application of conventional learning models with learning models Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, Transferring (REACT) in the domain of knowledge, attitudes, and skill  on the Basic Chemical Law materials. This study also aimed to know students’ response to learning using REACT model. This research was an experimental using Quasi Experimental Design, namely Posttest Only with Nonequivalent Groups Design. The population in this study was all students of 10th grade SMA 1 Kalasan in the academic year 2017/2018. This study used two classes as the study sample. The data were analyzed using Independent Samples T-Test parametric test for the knowledge and attitude domain, and Mann Whitney U non parametric test for the skill domain. The results of this study can be concluded that (1) there was  no significant difference in student learning achievement in the  knowledge domain, (2) there was  no significant difference in student learning achievement in the attitude domain, and (3) there was  significant differences in student learning achievement in the skill domain  between the application of conventional learning models with REACT learning models in the  Chemical Basic Law and (4) students gave a good response to the REACT learning model performed.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' critical thinking skills (CTS) in disadvantaged, outermost and foremost areas, namely in Indonesia's border elementary schools which are full of limited educational facilities. This research was conducted on science subjects in grade VI SDN 29 IDAI on the balance of ecosystems. The method used for the research is the experimental method, which is Quasi Experiment because conditions do not allow for the control class to be held. The research design is one group pretest posttest design, where before the treatment is given, the sample is first given a pretest (initial test) and at the end of the learning sample is given a posttest (final test). CTS aspects developed in this study include identifying criteria for possible answers, mentioning examples, giving reasons, and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of data analysis in the form of the results of the pre-test and post-test, there was an increase in students' average critical thinking skills, starting from 32% (less) in the pre-test to 75% (good) in the post-test. The application of discovery-inquiry method with work sheet illustrated media is also able to increase student learning outcomes to an average value of 72.38 with a graduation rate. The minimum criteria for completeness in classical is 84.62%.

Abstract

Organic chemistry is often regarded as a difficult subject which deters learners and is associated with poor performance. Our research aims to examine some of the challenges that students face in learning organic chemistry topics related to acid/base and resonance structures theories. For this purpose, organic chemistry exams were analyzed in regards to these troublesome topics. A questionnaire was administered to further understand some of the challenges students face when enrolled in organic chemistry. Our data show that students face several challenges learning these topics and that there is a need to change the way these topics are addressed in instruction.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study aims to determine the correlation between peer assessment with learning achievement. The learning achievement was obtained from the value of chemistry practicum by taking three values, namely the value of responses and the pretest values taken using written test, and the value of practical skills taken using the peer assessment observation sheet. This research is a descriptive  study. The sample of this research is second-semester student, force 2015/2016 Chemical Education Study Program, Islamic University of Indonesia. Data analysis using nonparametric statistic correlation test Spearman Rank Order Correlation. Based on statistical analysis, it is found that there is a correlation between peer assessment and student learning achievement: 1) correlation of peer assessment with response 0,722; correlation of peer assessment with pretest of 0.651; and the correlation of peer assessment with practical skills of 0.617Keywords: peer assessment, learning achievement, correlationReceived: 15 January 2018, Revised: 15 February 2018, Accepted: 24 February
