Abstract

This paper was a theoretical exploration of proxemic discourse and the experience of cafe space as a transitional educational space. It was based on the development of a paradigm in the 21st century that has targeted the cafe sector and provided the potential to be converted into an alternative educational space, especially for the millennial generation, called students. This study theoretically explored based on the phenomena seen at Yoman Cafe in Surabaya, Indonesia, which often became an alternative learning place for students at Universitas Negeri Surabaya. The research was conducted through participatory observations during March 2021, and it was analyzed by carrying out theoretical exploration of proxemics, spatial experiences, and alternative spaces. The results showed that the cafe currently had a dual role which was known as hybrid. Apart from being a cafe with the traditional definition of being a place to eat, the current cafe also had a role as an alternative space. This was based on the achievement of several aspects to create a sense of comfort as a transitional educational space, namely table settings that provided private space for visitors, comfortable and comprehensive furniture, selection of materials, ambiance entertainment, lighting and acoustics, colors, and use of aesthetic elements.

Abstract

Online learning has been carried out at SD N 1 Karangnongko Jepara due to the corona virus outbreak. As a result, learning at elementary schools was transferred online with the help of WhatsApp media. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of online learning through WhatsApp media. This study used a phenomenological qualitative research approach. The results showed that online learning using WhatsApp media tended to be less effective. This was influenced by several factors such as the difficulty of the internet signal and the ability of students who were not able to fully master WhatsApp application. Thus, an evaluation with related parties was required in order to create effective online learning.

Abstract

Research on the Quality of Student Worksheets (LKPD) using the fishbone diagram strategy aimed to determine the quality of the product in the form of Student Worksheets which were used as teaching material media to help students in developing writing. For this reason, students tended not to have difficulties when learning the writing descriptive text skills. This LKPD used fishbone diagram strategy that resembled a fishbone used in speaking and writing skills. This research was a research and development (R&D). The data analysis technique was quantitative description. The results showed that Student Worksheet writing descriptive text using the fishbone diagram strategy was feasible to be used as a companion to teaching materials. The validation results from material experts stated that LKPD obtained a percentage of 97.6% and 91.7%, while the validation from linguists achieved feasibility with a percentage of 88% and 86%. The feasibility test for field experts (teachers) got a percentage of 93.68% and 94.73% and the trials on grade VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Dumai were obtained with a percentage of 84.62%.

The blended learning model with the telegram application was carried out online and offline; this also became a solution due to the covid-19 pandemic so that the learning process could still be carried out. This research was an experimental research with a pretest post test control group design. The subject of this research was the fifth grade students of SDN Semambung Sidoarjo. Data were collected through critical thinking ability test and learning outcomes tests. Furthermore, the data were tested by using validity and reliability tests, while the learning tools were tested by expert validation. Data analysis test was conducted through normality test and homogeneity test. The analytical technique used was t test. The results of this study indicated that (1) there was an effect of blended learning model with telegram application on the students’ critical thinking skills at fifth grade elementary school in social studies subject; (2) there was an effect of blended learning model with telegram application on the students’ learning outcomes at the fifth grade elementary school in social studies subject. The subjects in this study were 34 students at grade VI SDN Krajanbogo Bonang Demak as the experimental class and 22 students at class VIA SDN Sidomulyo 2 Wonosalam Demak as the control class. The result of N-Gain score test showed that the experimental class (applying rotation model) had an average N-Gain score of 66.44% which fell into 'Quite effective' category. Meanwhile, the application of the conventional model to the control class obtained an average N-Gain score of 39.30% in the category of 'Ineffective'. Meanwhile, the effectiveness test using the paired sample t test found that the significance value (2-tailed) was 0.000 <0.05. In addition to the significance value, the value of t count > t table which was 38.152> 2.035. From these results, it was concluded that the application of the rotation model gave a significant impact on students’ learning outcomes in science subject for grade VI elementary schools.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the fact that most of the learning processes were not in accordance with the characteristics of elementary school students so that it had an impact on the quality of learning at schools that did not achieve the goal. The learning process included the process of planning, implementing, and assessing of the primary school teacher. The purpose of this study was to improve the teachers’ skills in carrying out the learning process by using a cooperative model of Think Talk Write type. This research was a school action research that adapted Mc Taggart and Kemmist's classroom action research design. This research consisted of stages of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. This research activity was carried out at SDN 23 Ujung Gurun Padang involving 10 teachers. The data collection technique was an observation sheet measuring the results of the learning process which including planning skills, implementation abilities, and assessment abilities. The data analysis technique consisted of quantitative data. The research found that the teacher's average score in carrying out the learning process using the Think Talk Write type cooperative model in cycle 1 was 68.30 and got an average score of 85.46 in cycle 2. This proved that there was an increase in teachers’ skills in carrying out the learning process by using a Think Talk Write type cooperative model through academic supervision activities. The implications of this research was that this model could be used as a reference for academic supervisors to improve the quality of learning for elementary school teachers.
