Abstract

Formaldehyde or better known as formalin is one of the food additives that are prohibited and should not be added to the diet according to thelegislation in force. The method used is a qualitative analysis using the reagent kromatofat acid and resorcinol. This study aims to determine thepresence or absence of formaldehyde in salted fish sold in the Pasar Bawah Pekanbaru. Salted fish sampling method used is purposive samplingmethod. The results of a sensitivity test using a chemical reaction reagent kromatofat acid and resorcinol at each concentration as follows: 0.5; 1; 1.5;2; and 2.5 ppm obtained the same results that both kromatofat acid and resorcinol reagent has a minimum sensitivity at a concentration of 1 ppm givepink-purple and purple rings / purple. The results of this study show that 4 out of 10 samples of different types of salted fish sold in Pasar BawahPekanbaru positive for formaldehyde, which is salted fish species: gabur, jambal roti, kembung, dan layur

Abstract

Identification of optimization studies have been conducted borax in grilled meatballs with diethyldithiocarbamate reagent (DEDTC) and detected byUV-Vis spectrophotometer. Samples containing borax in the furnace at a temperature of 600 ⁰C for ± 3 hours and treated with a solution of 10%diethyldithiocarbamate in NaOH 0.2 N. The results derivatization diethyldithiocarbamate borax with 2 ml of 10% at a temperature of 40 ⁰C or 60 minto detect a wavelength of 422 nm. Boron-diethyldithiocarbamate complex produced more stable in methanol and yellow

Abstract

Antibacterial activity test of white radish tuber extract (Raphanus sativus L.) with a diffusion method was tested against five bacterial pathogens.Thepurpose of this study is to evaluate inhibitory in Gram-negative bacteria (Salmonella thypi, Shigella sonnei, and Escherichia coli) and Gram-positivebacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus) at concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%. The results of White Radish tuber extractshowed zone of inhibition against all of bacteria test and provide better inhibition against Gram-negative bacteria at concentrations of 80% and 100%with inhibition diameter of Salmonella thypi bacteria (11,53mm, 11,06mm), Shigella sonnei (11,86mm, 12,33mm) and Escherichia coli (12,76mm,13,53mm). ANOVA analysis showed the influence of the white radish tuber extract concentration against all bacteria tested by a significant value P<0.05.

Abstract

The ideal route of administration for any medication is one that achieves serum concentration sufficient to produce the desired effect withoutproducing undesired effect. Patients may be concidered candidates for switching from intravenous to oral therapy once the patient has shown clinicalimprovement and is medically stable. Purpose of this study is the evaluation of selection antibiotics and timeliness to switch therapyfrom iv to oralantibiotics therapy.A prospective observation study, data were collected from all hospitalized patients with community-acquired pneumonia at internal medicinedepartment and respiratory care department at Dr. M. Djamil Public Hospital in Padang Indonesia from September until November 2013receivedantibioticswitchtherapy. Objective criteria were used to define time to switch therapy. Result showed, 49 patients fulfill inclusive criteria in thisresearch, 41 patients from internal medicine department and 8 patients from respiratory care department. All use ceftriaxone intravena, but 32 (65%)patients wrong in switched to oral therapy antibiotics, where 23 to cefixime, 7 to azithromycin, 1 to cefadroxyl and 1 to amoxcillin + clavulanic acid.Only 17 patients (35%) with prompt conversion of intravena antibiotic therapy to oral, 12 to ciprofloxacin and 5 to levofloxacin, only 12 patients rightin time to conversion intravena to oral antibiotics, with time to switch therapy was the fifth days. 49 patients have been discharged in goodconditionand doctor's approval.
