Abstract

Antioxidant activity of combination ethanol extract of starfruit leaf (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) and purple sweet potato leaf (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam) was measured using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) with vitamin C as comparison . This study aims to determine the best antioxidant activity from the combination of extract of starfruit leaf and purple sweet potato leaf. The extraction was done by maceration method using ethanol solvent. The combination of the two extracts was prepared by comparison (1: 0), (0: ​​1), (1: 1), (1: 2), (2: 1) using ethanol solvent with concentration 50 ppm, 100 ppm, 150 ppm, 200 ppm, 250 ppm and tested its antioxidant activity with DPPH method by Spectrophotometry UV-Vis at 518 nm wavelength to obtain IC50 (Inhibitory Concentration) value. The results showed that IC50 for combination starfruit leaf extract and purple sweet potato leaf with ratio (1: 0), (0: ​​1), (1: 1), (1: 2), (2: 1) were 138.41 ppm, 74.95 ppm, 105.27 ppm, 28.31 ppm, 43.92 ppm and vitamin C is 17.62 ppm. So it can be concluded that the combination of ethanol extract of starfruit leaf (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) and purple sweet potato leaf (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam) can increase the antioxidant activity of single extract.

Abstract

Dandruff is characterized by the presence of excessive flaking of dead skin flakes on the scalp and one cause is the Pityrosporum ovale fungi. Kaffir lime (Citrus hystrix D.C) is a natural material which contains antifungal namely flavonoids and saponins. This research aims to make formula preparation kaffir lime shampoo with three variations of the concentration of 10%, 15% and 20% as well as to find out the effectiveness of kaffir lime shampoo preparation to Pityrosporum ovale fungi. The results showed anti dandruff shampoo preparations kaffir lime on the first week of activity in inhibiting the growth of a Pityrosporum ovale fungi drag 20.9 mm diameter are produced by FI concentration of 10%; 21,5 mm by FII with a concentration of 15%; 21,7 mm produced by FIII with a concentration of 20% and after eight weeks the whole formula does not have activity as an anti dandruff. Based on the evaluation of the material of the shampoo anti dandruff formula whole Kaffir lime has a stable physical properties during storage. One-way ANOVA test showed that there is a significant difference in the diameters of the zones of inhibition is then followed by the tukey test and obtained the highest results inhibition zone diameter is indicated by a positive control with active substances ketoconazole 2% the diameter of the inhibition zone 22.8 mm and the kaffir lime shampoo dosage concentrations of 20% (FIII) inhibition zone diameter 21.7 mm.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Synbiotic yoghurt is one of the functional food products of fermented milk containing good bacteria. Sinbiotic is a combination of probiotics and prebiotics. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of synbiotic yoghurt yellow pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Durch) in inhibiting bacteria Escherichia coli and Salmonella thypi. This study used a complete randomized design (RAL) consisting of 3 treatments, namely the addition of sucrose with concentrations (10%, 15%, 20%) and 3 replications. The conclusion of this research shows that the formula of yoghurt with sucrose addition of 15% (F2) produces the desired yoghurt characteristic and has fulfilled the quality standard of SNI yoghurt (2981: 2009) with the result of hedonic test of panelist gives the value of likes to likes to color , aroma, taste and texture; for color (pale yellow), aroma (typical), taste (slightly acid), texture (slightly thick); degree of acidity (pH) 3,5; total 1.039% titrated acids; total lactic acid bacteria 4,06 x 1010cfu / ml and mean inhibitory diameter 13,10 mm (moderate resistance) to E. Coli and 13,91 mm (moderate resistance) to S. thypi with ANOVA test (P < 0,05) so that synbiotic yoghurt yellow pumpkin has activity as antibacterial. Abstract

Research has been done about the test of diuretic effectiveness on longan (Dimocarpus longan L.) leaves infusion to male white rat (Rattus norvegicus). The aim of this research is to see the diuretic effectiveness on (Dimocarpus longan L.) leaves infusion to male white rat (Rattus norvegicus). Based on the results that longan leaves infusion tested in male white rat with concentration of 20%, 40% and 80% showed increase urine volume in the test group of longan leaf infusion, but smaller than the urine volume in the positive control group.

Abstract

Sunscreen is a preparation containing substances that can absorb and / or reflect back the exposed ultraviolet rays on the skin. The compounds commonly used as sunscreens are octyl methoxycinnamate which chemically absorbs UV light into the epidermal layer of the skin. However, this substance has a deficiency that is photolabil causing reduced efficacy of UV filters from sunscreen (Draelos & Thaman, 2006). Lycopene compounds in tomatoes are antioxidants that have photoprotective nature (Svobodova et al, 2003). Based on some previous research states that the content of lycopene in tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) can be used to protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation. The aim of this research is to know whether tomato’s extract and octyl methoxycinnamate can be formulated into emulgel and what is SPF value obtained from emulgel preparation of tomato’s extract combination and octyl methoxycinnamate. The emulgel was evaluated, including organoleptic examination, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, dispersion, freeze thaw test, irritation test, and for the most stable formula determined SPF value by measuring absorbance of sample solution at 290-320 nm wavelengths at interval 5 nm using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that the third emulgel formula has the best stability among the three formulas and has an SPF value of 29.32 ± 0.030 under the ultra-protection category.

Abstract

The antibacterial activity of the Manila Fruit Juice (Manilkara zapota (L.) van Royen) Raw and Ripe againt Escherichia coli bacteria has been done with a solid dilution method. The purpose of this research is to know and compare the antibacterial activity of fruit juice sawo manila raw and ripe to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria. The results of the Antibacterial Activity of Manila (Manilkara Zapota (L.) van Royen) Raw with a concentration of 100%, 80%, 60%, 40% and 20%, respectively, of 120 colonies/ml colonies, 154 colonies/ml, 179.33 colonies/ml, 195.33 colonies/ml and 196.67 colonies/ml with an average number of early colonies of bacteria 197.67 colonies/ml. The results shown that the concentration of 100% will be decreasing of 39% the colony. While, the antibacterial activity test’s results of manila fruit juice (Manilkara zapota (L.) van Royen) ripe with 100%, 80%, 60%, 40% and 20%, respectively, with the average number of colony 221.00 colonies/ml, 221.67 colonies/ml, 221.67 colonies/ml, 221.67 colonies/ml and 221.67 colonies/ml with an average number of early colonies of bacterial 222.00 colonies/ml. This indicated that the raw manila has antibacterial activity, while the manila ripe fruit juice shown no antibacterial activity against bacteria of Escherichia coli.
