Abstract

The degradation of a plastic film containing polymer synthetic polystyrene (PS) and biopolymer poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) [P(3HB)] in soil has been carried out based on soil burial test. Result showed that the amount of P(3HB) in plastic film containing PS and P(3HB) influence the degradation rate of plastic film. Rate degradation measured use linear regression equality and parameter is indicated by the slope (k), degradation time 50% (t 50%), and degradation time 95% (t 95%). Degradation plastic film which occurred in soil with ratio PS/P(3HB) 85:15 was k = 0.90 %/week, t 50% = 55.13 weeks and t 95% = 105.29 weeks, followed by PS/P(3HB) 90:10 and PS/P(3HB) 95:15. In contrast, plastic film which made from pure PS (100:0) occurred slow with slope value (k) = 0.14 %/week, t 50% = 345.07 weeks, and t 95% = 655.63 weeks. Result of SEM test showed that damage occurred and erosion at surface of plastic film as long as observation time in various environment condition.

Abstract

An assay of biodegradation of plastic film combination of polystyrene (PS) and poli (3-hydroxy butyrate-ko-3-hydroxyvalerate) [P(3HB-ko-3HV)] has been conducted. The assay was done by using soil burial test method. The plastic film was made by blending technique of various composition of PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV) in to the mud. The remaining weight of plastic film was determined gravimentically time intervals 1,2,3,4 and 5 weeks of burial. Result showed that the P(3HB-ko-3HV) had an influence on the degradation rate of plastic film. The biodegradation rate increased with an increase in P(3HB-ko-3HV) content in the mixture. The rate was derived from linear regression equation and parameters such as biodegradation rate constant (k), t 50 % and t 95% were obtained. It was found that for combination of  PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV) 95:5 k= 1,26% b/b per week , t 50 % = 39,07 weeks and t 95 % = 74,783 week for the mixture of PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV) 90:10  k = 1,604 % b/b per week, t 50 % = 30,57 week and t 95 % = 58,62 week. For the mixture of PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV), 85:15 k = 2,663 % b/b per week, t 50 % = 17,95 week and t 95 % = 34,85 week. While those of pure PS plastic film k = 0,24 % b/b per week, t 50 % = 201,85 week and t 95 % = 354,55 week which indicated a very slow biodegradation. Analysis by SEM showed that the surface of plastic film was eroded and damaged during the burial. The amount of bacterial colony per 1 gram of mud was 2,31x107.

Abstract

A study on degradation of plastic film of the mixture of polystyrene sintetic polymers (PS) with poli(3-hidroxyibutirat) [P(3HB)] dan poli(3-hidroksibutirat-ko-3-hidroxyvalerat) [P(3HB-ko-3HV)] biopolymers in-vitro and in-vivo has been done. The assay was done by immersion test method in aquadest, river water at various pH of 4,6,8, and 10 respectively. Degradation rate was determined by linear regression with parameters including : t 50%, t 95% and rate constant (k). Degradation rate of plastic film of 1 PS/P(3HB) 95:5 at pH 6 was the fastest with k = 0,79 % week, t 50 % = 63,06 week and t 95 % = 119,84 week, followed by PS/P(3HB) 90 : 10 with k = 1,22 % / week, t 50 % = 41,25 week and t 95 % = 78,21 week and PS/P(3HB) 80 : 20 with k = 3,16 % week, t 50 % = 15,81 week and t 95 % = 30,05 week while pure PS plastic film (100 : 0 ) did not degraded at all. The degradation rate of a mixture of plastic film in river water, PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV) 95:5 showed k= 0,64 % week, t 50 % = 82,63 week and t 95 % = 157,17 week, PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV) 90:10 with k = 0,69 % week, t 50 % = 72,16 week and t 95 % = 137,4 week ; PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV) 85:15 with k = 0,74 %/week, t 50% = 66,79 week and t 95% = 127,32 week, while the pure PS plastic film (100:0) did not degrade.

Abstract

ABSTRACTOne of the current food developments is synbiotic yogurt, which is fermented milk that contains prebiotics and probiotics. This combination provides the advantage that it can increase the growth of probiotic bacteria by prebiotic substrates that are beneficial for health, especially to overcome pathogenic bacterial infections. This research aimed to analyze the effect of adding trigona honey on the antibacterial activity of Etawa crossbreed goat's milk the synbiotic yogurt formula. In this study, synbiotic yogurt was made from goat's milk, skim milk, honey as prebiotics, and Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Streptococcus thermophilus as probiotics. The concentrations of honey added were 6%, 9%, and 12%. The test variables included the degree of acidity (pH), the total value of LAB (Lactic Acid Bacteria), organoleptic quality, total titrated acid, and antibacterial activity. The results show that the addition of honey could increase the total value of titrated acid, the total value of LAB and antibacterial activity as well as reduce the pH. Synbiotic yogurt from goat's milk can inhibit the growth of Shigella dysenteriae and Salmonella thypii bacteria. The results of the statistical analysis of one-way ANOVA with a P-value <0.05 show a significant difference between each formula on the diameter of the inhibition of bacterial growth.Keywords: antibacterial, goat milk, honey, yoghurtABSTRAKSalah satu pengembangan pangan berklaim saat ini adalah yoghurt sinbiotik. Yoghurt sinbiotik adalah susu fermentasi yang mengandung prebiotik dan probiotik. Kombinasi ini memberikan keuntungan yaitu dapat meningkatkan pertumbuhan bakteri probiotik oleh substrat prebiotik yang bermanfaat bagi kesehatan khususnya untuk mengatasi infeksi bakteri patogen. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan madu trigona pada formula yoghurt sinbiotik susu kambing peranakan etawa terhadap aktivitas antibakteri. Pada penelitian ini yoghurt sinbiotik dibuat dari susu kambing, susu skim, madu sebagai prebiotik, serta Lactobacillus acidophilus dan Streptococcus thermophilus sebagai probiotik. Konsentrasi madu yang ditambahkan adalah 6, 9 dan 12%. Evaluasi pengujian meliputi derajat keasaman (pH), nilai total BAL (Bakteri Asam Laktat), mutu organoleptik, total asam tertitrasi, serta aktivitas antibakteri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan madu dapat meningkatkan nilai total asam tertitrasi, nilai total BAL dan aktivitas antibakteri serta menurunkan pH. Yoghurt sinbiotik susu kambing perankan etawa dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Shigella dysenteriae dan Salmonella thypii. Hasil analisis statistik ANOVA satu arah dengan nilai P<0,05 menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang bermakna antara masing-masing formula terhadap diameter hambat pertumbuhan bakteri.Kata kunci: antibakteri, madu, susu kambing, yoghurt

Abstract

Study of formulation of sunscreen cream with ethanolic extract of red rice bran (Oryza sativa L) and determining the SPF value in vitro using a UV spectrophotometer has been carried out. Ethanol extract of red rice bran has been shown antioxidant activity. Determining the SPF value due to determine the ability of the red rice bran ethanol extract to protect the skin from UV radiation. Ethanol extract of red rice bran was formulated in the form of a cream type o/w of F1 and F2 containing extract concentrations of 5% and 10%, respectively. Based on the research conducted, it was found that F2 had a higher SPF value of 13,098 than F1 of 11,861. Based on the SPF value generated from the formula, this study showed that the sunscreen cream preparation of red rice bran extract can protect the skin from UV radiation maximally for 110-130 minutes.

Abstract

Simpur air is one of plant that has been using as traditional medicine for treating several diseases. Some studies on its chemical constituents and biological activities of this species have been published. However, chemical constituents and antioxidant activity of this plant which is Riau origin has not been reported before. This study aims to determine the total of phenolic and flavonoid content as well as its antioxidant activity of methanol extracts of roots, leaves and flowers of simpur air. Determination of total of phenolic and flavonoid content was performed by spectrophotometric method using Folin Ciocalteu and AlCl3 as reagents, respectively. Whereas, its antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH method. The results showed that methanol extracts of its roots afforded the highest total of phenolic and flavonoid content and also its antioxidant activity. The total of phenolic content of methanol extracts of its roots of 428.131 GAE/mg extract; its total of flavonoid content of 766.164 QE/mg extract; as for its antioxidant activity gave IC50 value of 3.852 µg/ml.

Abstract

Bawang merah (Allium cepa L.) selain digunakan sebagai bumbu penyedap masakan, juga bisa digunakan sebagai obat oleh masyarakat Indonesia. Bagian tumbuhan yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai obat adalah bagian umbinya. Umbi bawang merah mengandung metabolit sekunder yaitu fenolik, flavonoid, dan terpenoid yang berkhasiat sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri fraksi n-heksana, etil asetat, dan 1-butanol umbi bawang merah terhadapbakteri Gram positif Staphylococcus aureus dan bakteri Gram negatif Escherichia coli dengan metode difusi cakram. Fraksi umbi bawang merah dibuat dalam beberapa seri konsentrasi yaitu 25%; 12,5%; 6,25%; 3,125%; dan 1,5625%. Konsentrasi 25% memberikan daya hambat paling baik dalam menghambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Hasil analisisdata menggunakan uji one way ANOVA dan Kruskall-Wallis didapatkan hasil p <0,05 yang menandakan adanya perbedaan daya hambat yang signifikan yang diberikan antara seri konsentrasi masing-masing fraksi dengan kontrol positif dan kontrol negatif. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah fraksi etil asetat memiliki daya hambat yang lebih besar terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli dibandingkan fraksi n-heksana dan 1-butanol.
