Abstract

The main focus of this article was dynamics and transformation of Makassar when it became the capital of the State of East Indonesia (NIT), 1946-1950. The discussion is emphasized mainly on two main issues namely the arrangement of cities and community life. The first issue relates to the burden of providing infrastructure to support the role of the nation's capital. The development of facilities and infrastructure is a necessity that must be provided for smooth government at the central level. From this city, the NIT government apparatus, such as the President, ministry, and parliament, have offices and organize their activities. The second issue relates to the consequences of the arrival of people from outside Makassar to work in various institutions or organizations. Makassar is synonymous with a diverse population, concerning ethnicity, religion and profession. This working paper is more detail explain about infrastructure both in terms of administration and physical development of the city, as well as the dynamics of urban community life, especially in cultural activities. In the context of progress, they become the space of expression of modernity as the times change. Abstract

This article describes the economic history of the town and its dynamics. As part of the historical reality, urban economics further accentuates its economic elements based on trade, industry and services activities. Of the three factors above, which one actively contributes to growth in urban economic development? Or, among the three, may be intertwined or synergised, which in turn form a support force that can stimulate the economic growth rate of a city. However, is it that simple in explaining the economic history of the town?, because a historical study must also be considerate of changes over time, while when discussed is the economic dimension, then, we are dealing with statistical data used to understand a change in time, as is done by quantitative economic history. This paper takes spatial space in the cities of Surabaya and Semarang as both cities, dominantly influenced by elements of trade, industry and services.

Abstract

This article aims to explain about the alteration of the child labour which originally served as a family worker and later became a wage worker at the Surakarta’s during the colonial period. Children in Javanese rural community have been taught since an early age to help their parents, by doing house chores as well as work in the field. Those lessons transform child to be a family worker who helps their parent’s work without receiving any money. The position changed with the arrival of foreign capital who rented land in the Surakarta region to be used to grow cash crops that were sold in the world market, such as coffee, sugar cane and tobacco. Along with many plantations opened, more workers were needed. The limited number of existing workers is an entry point for women and children to work as wage workers in Surakarta’s plantations, one of which is the tobacco plantation.

Abstract

The aims of education in Javanese pesantren is generally to transmit the teachings of Islam. Its teaching system to this day still refers to the Arabic classic books al-kutubul-mu`tabara (KKbA). In order for KKbA to be understood by the general public, there is an effort to translate it into Javanese language by translating the pesantren model or tradition (PTP). The typical translation of Pesantren is done per word according to the order in the source language (BSu) or the Arabic language. The apparent feature of the translation results is the addition of markers to the grammatical unit functions of the source language in the target language (BSa), like Javanese language. The theory used in this research is the Arabic syntax theory which is already well known and written by Arabic linguists. The result of the research about the marker of the grammatical unit function in KKbA is divided into four parts. This division is done to show the uniqueness of the structure owned by Arabic language. The division includes: a) marker of mubtada ' and khabar function; b) the marker of the functions of fā'il and nāib fā'il, c) the syntactic function marker of maf'ūl bih; and d) the marker of an explanatory function, such as maf'ūl fīh, maf'ūl mutlaq, maf'ūl li ajlihi, hāl, and tamyīz. Thus, this tradition of interpretation of Pesantren in addition to acquiring knowledge of KKbA studied, as well as get knowledge about Arabic grammar.

Abstract

Within the polemic of this new politic of linguistic, this article aims to describe the nature of the inclusive writing in French and why it is becoming the challenge to the politic of linguistic of French in Indonesia and its transmission in general. In order to expose these purposes, the sociolinguistic in critical approach is chosen to analyse the politic linguistic discourses aspects concerning this subject in diver French media. This research shows that despite the ideal purposes of inclusive writing system in French, there are a great potentiality that this new politic of linguistic will risk the transmission of French language in Indonesia. The difficulty is due to the complexity in the gender differentiation on the writing system adding a difficulty to the French learning which already well reputed as a difficult language to learn by the Indonesian public. The second problem is the uncertainty way of reading the new words using the median points, putting language instructors also in difficulty within their didactical task.

Abstract

Wowine (female) has a very shining and very sad footprint in the history of maritime culture Wakatobi Buton. Wowine's glorious times were when Queen Wakaa-kaa and Ratu Bulawambona came to power in Buton (Zahari, 1977/1978; Zaenu, 1984). At that time, wowine has a very strategic position in the government system of the Sultanate of Buton. Wowine's involvement in the government system of the Sultanate of Buton, not only occupied his role as queen but also became one of the conditions worthy or not someone become Sultan. The idea of wowine in the maritime culture of Wakatobi Buton was born from the research using Pierre Bordiau approach to see the habits, the realm of maritime Wakatobi Buton in the past, present, and future. This paper shows that the involvement of women in the Sultanate government system of Buton is responsible for the welfare and salvation of the empire. In the life of Buton people, women are responsible for several things, (1) taking care of the child, (2) seeking sustenance together with husband, (3) educating children, and (4) doing deeds, “amala or hope” to protect the husband's safety while in outdoors. It is further explained that the empress in the Sultanate of Buton served to: (1) become the head of Sarana Bawina, (Head of the Women's Council of the Sultanate of Buton), (2) safeguard the welfare and health of the sultan, and (3) educate the women in the sultanate. The findings were based on the method used, namely literature study and field study.
