Recognition of patterns in a person by using parts of the human body, such as on fingerprints, has been widely applied in life such as to perform absenteeism, tracking a criminal, system security and so on. Local Binary Pattern (LBP) algorithm is known as an algorithm that can describe local texture pattern in an area. LBP uses 8 scattered circular neighborhoods with center pixels centered. In a 3 x 3 pixel image, the binary value in the image center is compared with the surrounding value. The surrounding value will be 1 if the central pixel value is smaller, and is 0 if the central binary value is greater. A total of 78 data were used for this study where 26 data were using blue ink fingerprints, and 26 black ink data. After the fingerprint pattern data obtained then the image is scanned. After that the image in the crop to be 50 pixels x 50 pixels, so all the data becomes uniform. The algorithm used to make an introduction is the Manhattan Distance algorithm. Based on the test results of 26 test data with different color inks, the result obtained accuracy of 61.54%.

One of the factors that caused the ship accident was extreme weather conditions. The absence of a device that can provide real time weather information for port systems and the departure of inter-island vessel ships that make the voyage less secure. The purpose of this study is to provide information related to weather conditions such as current direction, current velocity, wind direction, wind speed and wave height to the ships captain and passenger ship. The toolkit consists of current velocity meter, wind speed gauge, current direction detection, wind direction detection and wave height meter. This inter-island information system device uses hall effect sensor and ultrasonic sensor. The sensor readings will be processed using Arduino Uno which is integrated with GSM Shield and then sent to the internet. Data residing on the internet will be monitored using Raspberry PI.

In the telecommunication process filter is a device that has the function to pass the desired frequency and eliminate / undermine the unwanted frequency. The filter low-pass filter (LPF) is a filter that passes signals with a frequency lower than a certain cutoff frequency and attenuates signals with frequencies higher than the cutoff frequency. The exact frequency response of the filter depends on the filter design. In this paper described the design of low pass filter using the approximation Chebychev with cutoff frequency used is 10.6 GHz because this frequency is the high cutoff frequency in ultra wideband applications. The filter is designed with microstrip technology using step-impedance design method, by combining high impedance microstrip and low impedance microstrip with a certain length. Then design of microstrip filter with step-impedance method and will be done optimization for filter have good characteristic. The filter design uses Roger substrate RT 5880 with dielectric constant (εr) = 2,2 with thickness (h) = 0.508. The result obtained in this research is the filter able to pass the lower frequency of cut-off frequency. The results of the filter design simulation have met the expected specification, the return loss value displayed both where the value is smaller than -10 dB and insertion loss value is smaller than -3 dB and has smaller dimensions.

The quality and the temperature of pond water is an important parameter that need to get attention in fish cultivation. Every type of fish has their own characteristic towards water condition and pond temperature. The monitoring of water quality in cultivation pond is done manually and it takes a lot of time. The purpose of this research is to design web-based control system device and monitoring the quality of the water of fish cultivation pond including salinity, temperature and the hardness in real time using special application. This device design consists of salinity sensor, hardness sensor, and temperature sensor. Temperature can be controlled and monitored automatically on the application via computer/laptop. The result of this research is temperature drop by 0,1 oC on a 10 liters pond that takes 18 seconds, and to decrease the temperature of 1 oC takes 180 seconds (3 minutes). To raise the temperature of 0,1 oC takes 264 seconds or 4,4 minutes, and to raise the temperature of 1 oC takes 2640 seconds or 44 minutes. The percentage of error for sensor reading is ranged 2,4% - 3,9%.

UWB technology started to become an attraction in the field of research since the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) allowing this communication is used for commercial communications at a frequency (3.1 GHz - 10.6 GHz). UWB has a very wide frequency range so that in practice there is often interference due to signal interference. Therefore in UWB system filter design is required to maintain UWB device. In telecommunications, filter is a transmission device that has the function to pass the desired frequency. In this paper designed bandpass filter which is applied for UWB technology. The designed bandpass filter is a combination of a lowpass filter (LPF) and a highpass filter (HPF). The lowpass filter has the characteristic of passing a frequency lower than its cut-off frequency. The highpass filter has the characteristic passing a frequency higher than its cut-off frequency. Considering the characteristics of both filters, the bandpass filter (BPF) is a combination of lowpass and highpass filters. In this research designed lowpass filter in microstrip technology with step impedance method, that is by combining high impedance microstrip and low impedance microstrip with a certain length. As for designing HPF using the distribution method of short circuit stubs by adding via ground on each stub. The design of this filter uses Roger substrate RT 5880 with dielectric constant εr = 2,2 with thickness (h) = 0.508 mm. In this research it can be concluded that bandpass filter can be designed with lowpass and highpass filter incorporation method, although at the merging of highpass and lowpass structures is disturbed by each other, but overall design shows matching bandpass.

Digital television technology has more benefit than analog television, for example several TV channel may included in one frequency channel. The changing from analog to digital televisions system require more innovative antenna parameter such as working frequency, bandwidth, return loss, VSWR, and gain. In other hand, the size of the antenna must be minimalized, so it can be integrated inside digital television. This research used metamaterial element of Complementary Split Ring Resonator (CSSR) method with negative permittivity that manufactured in the patch and Double Pole Ground Plane in the ground side. The antenna ad 478-694 operating frequency. Antenna design and simulation using CST (Computer Simulation Technology) Microwave Studio 2012. The result show that return-loss value < -10 dB, and VSWR ⤠2 at 478-625 MHz range of frequency. Te value of gain is 3.27 dBi, it has 147 MHz bandwidth, and omnidirectional radiation pattern.

The tide of sea water has an effect on the activities carried out in the sea, namely shipping activities, fishing activities, and loading and unloading of ships, because tidal events occur not at the same time therefore the need for tide level prediction. Tide level data for forecast based historical tide data obtained from BMKG Tanjungpinang from January 1 to February 11, 2015, research was done by using Backpropagation. This study using as many as 1000 high tide data with some input parameters such as max iteration, target error, learning rate, number of input, and update learning rate. The accuracy of this forecast is measured by calculating the average error using MSE (Means Square Error). The best modeling result of Backpropagation with 5 hidden layer and learning rate 0,9 produce the smallest MSE 0,0035861.

The aplication of Low Resolution Prototype (LRP) in the Engineering Design Process affects the succesfull of an innovation, therefore, it is really an excellent foundation if the engineering schools of universities provide students with engineering background, to be able to understand the engineering design process in general and benefits of low resolution prototype. This paper will explain the basic concept, understanding and will be given an explanation that emphasizes on the use of low resolution prototype in research or development of an innovation.

This study discusses the use of perturb and observation algorithm in the application of maximum power point tracking. The algorithm is simulated and tested hardware in two shading conditions. The results show the similarity result of hardware testing and simulation.

The universities as the part of a foundation of the innovations see the importance of equipping the engineering background graduates with knowledge of innovation, which is indispensable in the industrial world. Therefore, universities and industries strive to synergize to create the appropriate teaching methodes and systems without eliminating the characteristics and benchmarks of these universities which will then become the brand of the collaboration to compete with other universities in the competition of graduates in the job seek. Department of Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (TE FT UMRAH) has seen the importance of this matter and has applied the design thinking as a bridge of innovation between universities and industry in initiating the various innovations so it is expected that the graduates of TE FT UMRAH will be able to accelerate the innovations in the industry.
