<![CDATA[BATIK -- motif is one of the cultural results that can show the identity of the region and has a unique cultural background. This article highlights the issue of Tegal Batik motif. What kind of batik Tegal is ? What cultures are behind the Tegal batik motifs? I apply the research method with historical approach to find the history of Tegal. Who are the actors in carrying out cultural changes in Tegal, especially related to the emergence of batik motifs. Based on the history, it will be known why Tegal batik has such motives. The results showed that based on the history of Tegal, batik motifs get influence from some other cultural areas besides the Tegal community itself, namely from the Kingdom of Mataram and from the Pasisiran region. In addition, batik motifs Tegal also get a strong influence from “wong kaji”, namely the Muslim traders that taft with the Islam included in describing to the batik motifs. Again, there is one type of batik produced by rural communities of Tegal, called “folk-batik”.]]>

<![CDATA[THIS -- paper seeks to reveal the meaning of tradition in the Muslim’s ritual in Sumenep Madura which is understood as a local or popular ritual, associated with the determination of the calendar in Islam. This ritual, when expressed and understood in practice, is always based on the popularization of calendar names in local-based Islam with certain insights and meanings. With this deductive-inductive explorative approach, this paper explain to three popular ritual praxis of the Sumenep Madurese. Firstly, the practice of the death ritual that was intended as a repentance to God for self and “al-marhum”, ties the brotherhood, and effective for Islamic preaching. Secondly, the ritual practice of “Peret Kandung” is a ritual of the first pregnancy for husband and wife entering the seventh month which is meant as a symbol of purification, so that the born child will survive and truly become sholeh child who boast of parents. Third, “sonat ritual” is a continuation of initiation ritual in Sumenep only for boys which is meant as a ritual as well as da'wah media for islamization.]]>

<![CDATA[SADOO -- is one of the culture of the Japanese that still awake its sustainability in the midst of globalization and modernization. Sadoo in Japan is influenced by Zen Buddhism. Therefore sadoo is believed to be one of the richest cultures of meaning and value of life, such as social values, discipline, beauty, and etiquette. It is illustrated by the strict rules of conduct carried out and observed by the teishu during the invited guest ritual and o-kyaku. In this article, the author will discuss the presentation of tea by teishu in a sadoo ritual; how a teishu presents tea, what matters and what to watch for and do so that one can perform sadoo rituals, actions, movements and attitudes of a teishu during the sadoo ritual. <![CDATA[BATIK -- craft is a cultural heritage of Indonesia which existence keep growing each day. It is characterized by the existence of batik craft in various regions with their own characteristics. As a cultural heritage, batik craft had been around since the time of the kingdom era in our nation. Before the discovery of synthetic materials technology, batik coloration has always been using natural colors that are available in Indonesia. Natural coloration can be taken from tinggi wood, tegeran plant, teak leaf, indigo plant, secang, mahogany, and other plants. As the times progressed, natural coloring began to be replaced and abandoned by the craftsmen. Crafters use synthetic coloring starting in the early 20th century. Currently there is an awareness to return to the natural coloring because it is considered to be more environmentally friendly and cheaper. The use of natural coloring also pushes batik selling value higher when compared to the one using synthetic color]]>

<![CDATA[THIS- article is meant to provoke how the discourse of multiculturalism as a cultural conception can be realized in journalism practice on TV stations. This idea is important to conclude how multiculturalism can be represented in newscast products in which produced by media actors. Through the concept of field (Bourdieu 1993, 2005), which explains how this ideas can be practiced into some models of multicultural journalism that can create some cultural products in the form of multicultural news on TV stations. The method used is certainly the ethnography to reveal how the practice of multicultural journalism among media people at TV stations is already on the certain level, by conducting interviews and close observation on every movement of news actors especially for religious, cultural, and political issues.]]>

<![CDATA[THIS -- paper discusses about the socio-economic recovery efforts of communities affected by the Lapindo mud disaster in Kedungsolo, the relocation Village. The data of this paper is taken by using ethnography method, which resulted in the conclusion of the post-disaster socio-economic recovery efforts by the Renokenongo community since the evacuation of Pasar Baru Porong. The Renokenongo community formed the Paguyuban Warga Renokenongo Menolak Kontrak (Pagar Rekontrak) as the beginning of the socio-economic recovery effort communally. While personally, every household also makes different recovery efforts depending on how they access existing recovery resources. This recovery effort also received support from several related parties, both government agencies and private institutions.]]>

Aspects of power and economic aspects become very dominant in the orientation of community life, which should only be a means of living together. <![CDATA[ONE -- of the infrastructure development project was a port that has been done by the government of Indonesia, Sadeng Beach Fishery Port, in Girisubo District Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta. The emergence of ports in the area of Sadeng Beach Gunung Kidul brought changes to the community around Sadeng Beach area, considering the population in the area is not a fishing area. This research is an ethnographic research, within the researchers directly involved in various community activities in PPP Sadeng. Initially, the government brought fishermen from Gombong regency, Central Java to initiate the operation of the port. The construction of the harbor at Sadeng Beach is a government effort to improve the economy of the people around Sadeng Beach. However, the construction of ports in the middle of the farming community brings the consequences of socio-economic changes in the community around Sadeng Beach, especially the changes in the economic pattern of farmers to fisherman and the emergence of various types of fishermen in PPP Sadeng, the social cohesion changed among the community including the local fishermen with newcomers, and the emergence of new traditions.]]>

<![CDATA[THE -- method of determining the beginning of the month of Hijrah is constantly differentiated. Several approaches have been made by experts to understand the phenomenon, both the socio-cultural comparison approach between the conditions of the Prophet Muhammad's time and the current conditions as well as the astronomical-normative approach to verses that have been the root of these differences of opinion. In contrast to previous studies, this paper tries to find the pattern of the differentiation phenomenon and the background of the occurrence with the perspective of Social Evolution Theory proposed by Herbert Spencer. This study shows that the phenomenon of differentiation is a natural process that sequentially follows the following patterns and stages. (1) the stage of increasing the size, (2) the stage of the complexification, (3) the differentiation stage, and (4) the integration stage.]]>

<![CDATA[THIS -- paper examines the rubu 'mujayyab as a classical instrument and the work of ulama archipelago. Rubu 'mujayyab keeps the scientific treasures as the primary reference for the development of advanced Islamic astronomical tools. The methodology used in rubu 'mujayyab is the science of a spherical triangle connected with the concept of the earth round. Urgency rubu 'mujayyab in Islamic tradition is as a measuring tool one of them is to determine the distance and altitude. Rukyat al-hilal and the direction of Qiblah is one part that can be measured by rubu 'mujayyab. With the base of the surface point of the earth can be expressed in two coordinates, namely longitude and latitude. Through this paper submitted that rubu 'mujayyab as a measuring instrument of rukyat al-hilal and direction of Qiblah in his time is an accurate and precise tool. However, after a study with contemporary tools the calculation of rubu 'mujayyab did not reach the minute scale. In the process of calculation also requires a long process, because there are several steps that must be taken. Meanwhile, calculations using the scientific calculator method can include data processed with a formula that can produce high accuracy calculations. Yet the spirit of Islamic archipelago in the development of scientific treasures through rubu 'mujayyab still must be preserved.]]>
