Abstract

This research aims to describe the implementation of Islamic guidance counseling  in the mental development of students at Madrasahs in Tanjung Balai City. This type of research is in the qualitative category with descriptive study methods. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation and document review. Then the data was analyzed using data reduction steps, data exposure, and drawing conclusions. In this case the data is checked using credibility, dependability, confirmability and transferability techniques. The results of this research indicate that the guidance and counseling services at the Tanjung Balai City madrasah in an effort to develop students' mental development are carried out well. This is characterized by (1) the Islamic activity program and mental development of students covering the areas of faith, morals, worship and muamalah; (2) stages of Islamic services in developing students' mental development, namely case identification, diagnosis, prognosis, therapy, evaluation and follow-up; (3) Islamic guidance and counseling services have an impact on students' ability to adapt at school and in society; (4) help students control themselves when hanging out (socially). Likewise, there are several obstacles in implementing Islamic in developing students' mental development, namely the minimum ratio of teachers to students in madrasas and limited guidance and counseling service facilities. The solution offered is the massive efforts of guidance and counseling teachers to take part in offline and online training and providing guidance and counseling facilities in madrasas.

Abstract

Teaching and learning a language are one of the professional processes of transferring some conscious knowledge from the teachers to learners. Teachers must prepare what knowledge of a particular lesson they are going to transfer to their learners. That is why they need some resilience teaching techniques and related or current teaching materials, design best teaching plans and search and gather best teaching references and apply the resilience teaching strategies to their learners especially in teaching foreign language. As an academic activity, in terms of teaching and learning processes, learners have their own targets to learn a foreign language, for example, to pass the exam managed either by state or private institution. The problem is that we have to know the reasons and the purposes what we learn a new language for. There are so many reasons why people learn a language. Thereof it is very important now for both language teachers and language learners to be able to distinguish between learning a language and learning about the language. This study tries to investigate how the resilience teaching strategy works in learning a language by applying Premium Speaking Cards as one of the teaching medias. Dealing with the research methodology, this study uses a qualitative method. The results of the research shows that premium speaking card game should be applied by language teachers to their leaners in order to gain their speaking quality and the resilience teaching strategies for the teachers, let alone in leaping into an extraordinary era.

Abstract

This study aimed to elucidate and explain about students’ interests in English learning. Then, this study applied the descriptive qualitative method which described an inquiry process of understanding a social or human problem, based on building a complex, holistic, formed with words. the subjects of this study were 42 students of second semester at Institut Teknologi Kelapa Sawit Indonesia in Medan. Moreover, the technique of data collection was administering the open questionnaire regarding students’ interests in English learning. Then, the technique of data analysis used Miles, Huberman, and Saldana steps such as 1) data condensation, data display, and 3) data verification. The findings showed that the students had great interests in English learning that indicated by enjoying and being happy during the learning process, focusing and being enthusiastic when doing the activities, taking some notes of the English lesson, being motivated and active in the classroom, reviewing the previous material and trying to improve the English skills. Furthermore, they had great interests in English learning because of the interesting, comfortable, and enjoyable teaching. Moreover, they felt English was very important and they wanted to improve their skills in English. Then, the findings have the implication and contribution to the development of learning English as a foreign language in Indonesia.

Abstract

All abilities in English cannot be separated from one another. Integrating one ability with another is necessary to avoid weakening one side of the ability. Based on several studies, the ability to read and speak English has a very large relationship in teaching and learning English. By reading, students can add vocabulary as a very important thing in speaking English. One of the most important things in the science of vocabulary is to make it easier to speak. Authentic reading texts can be explained directly in speaking to help students' abilities. Students can understand authentic reading texts in various ways. One way is to directly say something about what they have read.

Abstract

The integral function of reading in fostering scientific literacy is crucial for enhancing pupils' reading proficiency. The utilization of English comics as an instructional medium is anticipated to have a beneficial impact on pupils due to its inherent ability to evoke feelings of happiness among readers. The objective of this study is to enhance the reading comprehension abilities of students in class XI PL SMKN 4 Medan by utilizing English comics as a medium. The present study constitutes a classroom action research that adheres to the research processes outlined in the John Elliot model. These procedures encompass preparation, action, observation, reflection, and evaluation activities. The findings indicated that the mean score for students' reading comprehension fell within the medium range, with a pre-lesson average of 62.70 (57.70%) when utilizing English comic media. Following the acquisition of reading skills and comprehension through the utilization of English entertaining media during the initial phase, there was a noticeable enhancement in the mean reading comprehension proficiency of students, reaching 70 (69.23%). However, it is important to note that this achievement still falls within the moderate range. During the second cycle, there was an observed improvement in students' reading comprehension ability, as evidenced by an increase in the average value and a percentage of 81.54 (88.46%) falling inside the very high group.

Abstract

Applied Linguistics is an academic discipline that utilizes knowledge gained from the study of language to address practical issues and challenges in many contexts. Language abilities are of paramount importance in various domains, including but not limited to the realms of education and language assessment. The objective of this research is to find out the applied linguistics in the students' speaking at MAN Kota Palangka Raya. The researchers employed a descriptive qualitative research design for this study. To gather the data, researchers used recording techniques which were instrumental in capturing videos of the students issuing and accepting invitations. Based on the findings, there were some linguistics features which had been found that applied by the students. They were sound, form, meaning, and construction. It means, the students still find it hard to speak English correctly. To improve, they need to concentrate on the language's rules which involve properly pronouncing words and using appropriate word order and grammar. By focusing on these aspects and applying them consistently, they can speak English much better and communicate their ideas, feelings, and intentions more effectively.
