Abstract

In this research, we propose hybrid Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing/Time Division Multiplexing (CWDM/TDM)-Passive Optical Networks (PON) scheme for optimizing the new technology of Gigabit-PON (GPON) called Next Generation-PON Stage 2 (NG-PON2). The simulation of using this scheme proved that Q-Factor increase and Bit Error Rate (BER) decreased, significantly. We use CWDM scheme for downstream while TDM is used for upstream, and we assimilate both of them with new configuration in bidirectional cable setting. CWDM is used due to low nonlinearity effect like Kerr effects. It has the same working principle based on (Time Wavelength Division Multiplexing-PON) TWDM-PON by differentiating the use of wavelength, it can be easily implemented on existing PON technology, and can be used in single-mode optical fiber (SMF) with greater bandwidth and much cheaper operational costs. From the calculations and simulations, it can be analyzed that the network Hybrid of CWDM / TDM-PON able to work on bit rate of 40/10 Gbps on the number of users 32, 64, and 128, with Q-Factor value is above 6 equal to International Telecommunication Union of Telecommunication (ITU-T) standard. The number of users 32 with two cable lengths of 10 and 20 km have value of Q-Factor 25.960 and 14.815 respectively, while64 users with the same cable length have Q-Factor value of 15.808 and 13.046 respectively. In addition, 128 users with the same cable length have BER value of 17.778 and 12.944 respectively.

Abstract

Optical waveguides are the key component for distributing optical signals with very low propagation loss in optical communication. Several type optical waveguides are established currently such as silica optical fiber. In the planar structure, planar optical waveguides are suitable for implementing to integrated optic applications. In here, rectangular optical waveguides on a planar structure with a LiTaO3 crystal as the substrate are described. The optical waveguides were designed for single mode operation at infrared optical wavelength. The Marcatili method is used for designing by separated the rectangular optical waveguides into two slab optical waveguides. Design rules for the rectangular optical waveguides are discussed in this paper

Abstract

Since invented for the first time, researchers in the world were focusing on how to increase the efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) and reduce of the fabrication cost. Monolithic type of DSSC is one of the best solutions to reduce the fabrication cost due to the elimination of one of transparent conductive oxide (TCO) substrate. In this study, DSSC monolithic was fabricated layer by layer by using screen printing method. There are three layers that printed in each cell namely TiO2, ZrO2, and carbon before being injected with electrolytes. The geometrical structure of DSSC was varied to find the highest performance. From the I-V characteristics and incident photon-to-current efficiency (IPCE) characterization shows the highest efficiency is 0.137% and the highest conversion of photons to current occurs at around 510 nm wavelength, for a structure which has ZrO­2 layer not crosses over the no-FTO area, while TiO2 layer half crosses the no-FTO area, this is most likely caused by the imperfection of the ZrO2layer.

Abstract

Pada penelitian ini dirancang antena mikrostrip dengan slot double F, di mana antena ini dapat digunakan untuk perangkat wireless yang bekerja pada frekuensi multiband. Antena mikrostrip double F dirancang dengan simulasi, dipabrikasi dan diukur secara riil. Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) digunakan untuk menganalisis karakteristik distribusi arus yang tersebar pada mikrostrip. Nilai parameter terbaik dari hasil simulasi untuk return loss adalah -31,09 dB pada frekuensi 2,4 GHz dan VSWR sebesar 1,057 sedangkan hasil pengukurannya sebesar -32,82 dB pada frekuensi 2,4 GHz dan VSWR sebesar 1,045. Penggunaan slot pada patch antena dan pencatuan proximity yang digunakan meningkatkan bandwidth antena sebesar 48,7% dan gain yang dihasilkan sebesar 5,97 dBi.

Abstract

The increasing demand on wireless connectivity has opened new and modern communication systems. Many wireless systems, for example Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi), Bluetooth, ZigBee, share the unlicensed frequency region around 2.4 GHz. Due to intensive application of Wi-Fi systems, there are certain disturbance potentials observed. The Wi-Fi signals cause interference to ZigBee networks which are used for smart grid applications. In this work, the shielding effectiveness of a metallic enclosure with several apertures is studied. Based on analytical expression from the literature, the shielding effectiveness by varying the sheet thickness, number of apertures, and aperture patterns is calculated. Several measurements of Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) are carried out. The measurements are conducted on a shielded room to isolate the measurement from other unknown signal sources. The calculation and measurement of shielding effectiveness confirmed that more apertures on a shielding sheet will reduce the Shielding Effectiveness (SE). SE for one aperture for the case sheet thickness 0.7 mm and diameter of 12 mm reduce from 46.28 dB to 14.24 dB for 6 apertures. Bigger aperture diameters will also degrade the SE from 46.28 dB to 5.27 dB for aperture diameter 24 mm. The same condition can be concluded for the thickness 1.4 mm for aperture diameter of 12 mm. However a slightly different measurement results are obtained for the thickness 1.4 mm and aperture diameter of 24 mm. The thickness plays a significant role to attenuate the wave, so that SE is bigger than the calculated one.
