Abstract

Infectious diseases such as HIV / AIDS and hepatitis are diseases that can be transmitted through various media, one of them through shaving tools that are not hygienic which is still rarely noticed by barber.  Barbershop renovation  is an educational program which was designed as an effort to prevent infectious diseases in Barbershop through education with the use of mirror stickers and shaving cloth media and assistance during the program. The purpose of this research is to determine the effectiveness of Barbershop's surgical program against the prevention of infectious diseases through a shaver at Barbershop in Kendari City in 2019. This study used quasi-experimental designs with a treatment-control group design (pre-test and post-test). A total of 30 Barbershops were involved in the study, which were selected by purposive sampling technique. Data analysis used Wilcoxon sign rank test for testing the difference between before and after treatment, and mann whitney U test, for testing the differences between the treatment and control groups. The results of data analysis showed differences in attitudes both before and after treatment. In addition we also found significant differences between the treatment group and the control group. So it could be concluded that the operation of the Barbershop renovation program was effective in providing education and influence the attitude about preventing transmission of infectious diseases through shavers. Suggestions that can be given are strengthening health strategies, like supervisory support and training is needed to facilitate effective preventive measures against infectious diseases among barbers

Abstract

Adolescence is a period of dramatic change in a person. This sudden increase in growth is accompanied by hormonal, cognitive and emotional changes. Teenagers really need more nutrients because of increased growth and physical development that is very drastic. This study aims to determine the relationship of food intake with the nutritional status of adolescent students of SMP Buq'atun Mubarakah Pondok Pesantren Darul Aman Makassar. This research method used quantitative analytic with cross sectional approach. Retrieval of food intake data used the food weighing method for 3 consecutive days. Determination of nutritional status was obtained from BMI/A parameters (body mass index/age). Statistical test results showed no relationship between energy intake, protein intake, vitamin A intake, iron, zinc and fat intake with the nutritional status of students, but we obtained a significant relationship between carbohydrate intake and nutritional status. In addition, we found no relationship between diarrheal infections and typhoid infections with nutritional status. We recommend that the pesantren can design a varied list of food menus for students to fulfill a balanced nutritional status

Abstract

Chronic energy deficiencies often occur and attack women of childbearing age. this illustrates insufficient energy and protein intake and it can result in health and unbalanced nutritional patterns. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between diet and educational history with the incidence of chronic energy deficiency in women of childbearing age in Gunturu Village, Herlang District, Bulukumba, Province of South Sulawesi. This research was conducted in 2019 with a total sample of 359 people,  the design of this study was cross sectional study, data collection through interviews using questionnaires and direct observation, data of Chronic energy deficiencies obtained through LiLA measurements, consumption patterns obtained through interviews using the FFQ Form, and it was analyzed statistically with the chi square test. The result shown that the eating patterns of most respondents were in the good category and did not experience KEK. While the majority of respondents with less eating patterns did not experience KEK. Respondents who had never attended school, respondents had completed elementary / junior high / high school education, and respondents who graduated from tertiary institutions mostly did not experience KEK. The absence of a statistically significant relationship between diet and education was likely to be influenced by the proportion of WUS who experience a lower KEK that was 45 people than WUS who did not experience KEK as many as 314 people. Researchers hope that the community can maintain healthy living behaviors by managing a good diet, like watching the type of food consumed

Abstract

Epidemiological transition is marked by changes in the pattern of disease and death which was originally dominated by infectious diseases that turn to non-communicable diseases, one of which is hypertension. In Indonesia, hypertension is a potential problem, in addition to its high prevalence, as well as its fatal diseases such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and others. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors that influence hypertension. This research used quantitative research with observational analytic approach and cross sectional study design. The population in this study was South Sulawesi expo participants. The sample in this study was 107 respondents with a purposive sampling method. The results of this study indicated that there was a significant relationship between family history of disease factors with hypertension but there was no significant correlation between the incidence of hypertension with some participant behavior such as smoking habits, lack of physical activity, less consumption of fruits and vegetables, and alcohol comsumtion. Although some trigger factors are not significant for hypertension, these factors can cause and worsen the occurrence of hypertension in the future. We suggest that expo participants always check their blood pressure routinely

Abstract

Women infected with HIV and AIDS are mostly victims of their husbands’ deviant behaviour. In that case, women with HIV and AIDS often suffer from psychological consequences that directly impact on their self-conception about their identities. This study employs phenomenological research method and selects its eight informants by snowball sampling technique. The informants consist of 6 women with HIV and AIDS, 1 counselling doctor, and 1 associate. The data were analysed with content analysis. The research findings suggest that most informants believe that they only gain knowledge about HIV and AIDS after they learn that they are infected by it through intervention programs. Prior to the intervention programs, they were not aware of the risks that the virus entails. The findings also report that the informants experience emotional turbulence after learning their condition even though it does not last long due to their realisation to their significant roles in the family as a mother and a wife. In addition to that, all informants sincerely hope for their recuperation, wish that their children do not carry the same virus in their bodies, and want to conceal the truth about their condition from the society. They are concerned of being rejected and discriminated by the society upon learning about the HIV and AIDS that they carry. All in all, psychological approach and counselling are significantly necessitated to help these women to maintain their positive self-conception.

Abstract

The high number of residents in urban areas accompanied by an increase in motor vehicle users can be a trigger for increasing concentrations of Carbon monoxide emissions. The purpose of this monitoring activity is as follows, namely to obtain air quality data / information on CO (carbon monoxide) parameters as a basis for comparing the air quality of CO parameters before and after the CSR (corporate social responsibility)  Program Asri Wall which is then analyzed based on the Air Pollution Standard Pollution Index (ISPU). Air quality monitoring is carried out in three locations of Intervention CSR Program which has the potential to cause air pollution, especially carbon monoxide (CO) gas impact on public health. The results of air quality monitoring showed the average value of CO concentrations during / before the implementation of the CSR Wall Asri program was higher, compared to after the implementation of the CSR program. The Value Analysis of the Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) during / before the implementation of the CSR program is more dangerous to health and is categorized as Very Unhealthy, while the ISPU value after the implementation of this CSR Program has decreased in value and is in the Unhealthy category. Therefore, it can be concluded that the air quality at the CSR Program Intervention Location experienced an improvement in air quality after the implementation of the Asri CSR Program.
