Abstract

This article is aimed to deal with the development of Islamic philosophy in modern era in many countries, both in theEast and the West, in the world commonly, and in Indonesia particularly. Islamic philosophy in this era has grownthrough four stages. Firstly, at the beginning of 19th century, when the modernization in Muslim countries has beeninitiated by Jaml al-Dn al-Afghn. Secondly, since 19th until 20th century, when some orientalists among Jews havestudied the Islamic philosophy. Thirdly, post-World War II, when the Islamic philosophy has become the concern ofthe Eastern and Western scholars. Fourthly, the golden age of Islamic philosophy has come, since 20th centuryhitherto, when the bordes has fused in the sense that both Western and Eastern scholars have collaborated in jointintellectualagenda to study of Islamic philosophy. The Study of Islamic philosophy in Indonesia, in particular, haspassed three stages of development; firstly, in 1960-1970s, the stage of consolidation has begun through efforts carriedout by Harun Nasution to cultivate rational thought in the mind of Indonesian Moslems; secondly, in 1980-1990s,the stage of institutionalization has begun when the department of theology and philosophy at the Faculty of Ushl al-Dn at Syarif Hidayatullah State Institute for Islamic Studies in Jakarta has been initiated in 1982; finally, since1990 hitherto, the stage of functionalization, when the Islamic philosophy has been studied in Islamic universities, andeven functionalized to solve many problems.

Abstract

There are three methods of interpretation used by commentators to interpret the Quranic verses, by riwayah, knownas tafs bi al-mats, by logic known as tafs bi al-rayi and by al-isyi. From three methods of interpretation, according to Ibn Taymiyyah, tafs bi al-mats is the best method and valid. It is based on the belief that knows themeaning of the verse is Allah, the Prophet, and his companions. In fact, the commentary by al-mats, not the wholeverse is interpreted by the Prophet, or friends but the majority carried out by commentators with ijtihadnya in placingthe Quran, Hadith and friends opinion when interpreting a verse. Thus, differences in interpretation among commentatorsbi al-mats can not be avoided. In case of Abrahams son who was sacrificed, for example, between al-Thabari, Ibn Kats and Ibn Athiyyah had different opinions and attitudes of understanding of the verses. Whiletheir interpretation is called tafs bi al-mats. Their different opinions indicate that al-tafs bi al-mats also needa review of the validity, especially related to commentators thought in placing the explanation of Quran itself,Hadith and opinion in interpreting the Quranic verses.

Abstract

This article is aimed to describe psychological approaches in the study of religions. Psychology provides many perspectives, such as Feudian psychoanalysis, eventhough it considered religion as pathology, also provided semantic tool to understand inner religious experiences. Another side of psychoanalysis functioned to study the development of children’s religious experiences. Psychology also can be applied to study spiritual awakening, or more precisely, conversion from non-religious into religious experience, or from situation to other one. Trans-personal psychology is more concerned with therapeutic practices, but in the view of Dan Merkur, this kind of psychology should be called as “theology” rather than psychology in true sense of the word.

Abstract

This paper intends to address the emerging of Shiite genealogy in the history of Islamic thought. There are somequestion that needs to be asked: What is the Shiite? Furthermore, what is the background of the rise of the Shiite? As for the writer, Shiite is a group of Muslims who believe that the successor (khalifa) on leadership (Imamate) bothin the field of religion and politics after the Prophets death was Ali bin Abi Talib, cousin of Prophet Muhammadand his descendants were called Ahli bayt. There are several theories about the background of Shiite. Some said it iscaused by the privilege of Ali in comparating with the other prophets companion. Some said it is caused by theinfluence of non islamic cultural and religious teachings such as Persian and Jews. Some said it is caused by thepolitical conflicts in the Islamic community after the death of the Prophet. For the Shiites themselves believe that thequestion of replacement of the Prophet, that Ali bin Abi Talib, has got the legitimacy of both the Quran andHadith.

Abstract

Begitu pula membaca pernyataan Syekh Siti Jenar Iya Ingsun iki Allah.

Abstract

Belief, as part of human life, is part of the fundamental rights. However, the increasing number and variety of existing beliefs impact the emergence of standardized beliefs that deserve to be categorized as religion. This paper discusses how one of the original beliefs of the people of Kalimantan, namely kaharingan, cannot be considered a religion because various religious standards hamper it. This paper finds that standardization which begins with the notion of religion, according to EB Taylor, has an impact on a belief that must meet several conditions, such as belief in God, holy scriptures, carriers of religion or prophets, and others. The standardization impacts Kaharingan as a belief that can only be said as a "aliran kepercayaan," not a religion in Indonesia. The rise and fall of the relationship between local religion and the state that occurred during the New Order era and reforms were more or less influenced by this paradigm.
