One of the great Muslim philosophers whose name is still considered to this day is Ibn Khaldun. Many important ideas of his thinking are contained in his work Muqaddimah, one of which is about leadership. His fairly mature experience in the world of practical politics made him have a mature understanding of the concept. In this article, Ibn Khaldun's thoughts on leadership will be reviewed. From the analysis that the author did, this study obtained the result that according to Ibn Ibn Khaldun leadership is something that must exist and in accordance with the teachings of Islam. According to him, leadership can be achieved through the existence of supremacy achieved with fanaticism through asabiyyah. In addition to asabiyyah, religion also plays a role in the establishment of leadership. In fact, the solidarity produced by religion is much stronger than that produced only by asabiyyah. In addition, Ibn Khaldun also gave some criteria for a leader, including having knowledge, being able to do justice, competent, physically and spiritually healthy, and having a lineage from the tribe of Quraish.

They are very obedient to the Prophet so that they may not dare to betray and lie intentionally in the narration of ḥadīts. They are ‘adil generally. Muslims believe that whole companions have ‘adālaḧ quality, which is famous by a dictum: kullu ṣaḥābaḧ ‘udūl. Furthermore, this belief has come as something approved theologically. This concept becomes stronger when the hadith criticism, traditional scholars are more oriented sanad which has implications for the placement of narrators personality in a position that can not be ignored. This is clearly different from Juynboll, he is one of the Orientalists who came from Netherland who developed the theory of common linkThe conclusion of this research that Juynboll denies the method of hadith criticism. He claims that this theory occurred in the evolutive schema, and is the creation of muḥaddits.

Imamate is the main Shi'ite doctrine. They use the term Imam as a substitute for a degree of prophet office after his death. Shi'ites in particular Imami Itsna Asy'ari and Isma'ilism found an eligible priest to be after Prophet Muhammad’s death is Ali bin Abi Talib. While the Prophet never specify who should be a priest, he only mentions the qualities of a priest and accidental properties that are owned by Ali bin Abi Talib, so Ali should be chosen become a priest. Thinking about the Imamate, Shiites refer to events that occurred in Ghadir Khum, where the prophet has returned from the Farewell Pilgrimage stopped in Ghadir area Arafah. Then, he appointed and inaugurated Ali bin Abi Thaib to be his successor as priest. This event is believed by a group of Imami Itsna Asy'ari and Isma'ilism as the basis for the appointment of Ali as priests. In addition they also use Qur’anic verses that are understood and interpreted according to their version, as a proposition or argument in strengthening the doctrine of the Imamate. While the group did not seem to wear Zaidiyyah the arguments and the Ghadir event.
