Abstract

Purpose of the research is to know the child language acquisition, particularly on child speech variation. Subject of the research are 8-year-old children live in an bilingual, informal Indonesian and Javanese family. Their parents are Javanese both ethnic and vernacular, otherwise they tends to speak informal Indonesian and Javanese to the subjects. The method of collecting data is simak libat cakap, participant observation and the method of analyzing data is padan pragmatik, pragmatic identity method. Result of the research is that the child speech variation is bilingual, informal Indonesian and Javanese. It likes the speech of the child invironment. Structurally, the child vocabularies and sentences are short and brief in form and it is the characteristic of the informal speech. Child speech variation is influenced by the speech variation in the child invironment. The child acquires the speech variation they listen and acquire in their speech.

Abstract

Up to now, English is used as a communication language in ASEAN forum. To incourage the solidarity among the society in South East Asia, it is necessary to change the policy. The paper offers one alternative of using regional languages instead of English in the forum. Malay languages, those are Indonesian Malay, and Malay used in Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Singapure are potential languages that can be used as a means of communication, especially among the four societies. To do that, we have to increase the mutual intelligibility among the four languages and to incourage the societies to use the four languages.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore images of Indo European and European in peranakan Chinese literature. This paper uses the paradigm that literature is objective of mind as result from action of thinking. Literary works which are used as main data will interpret in term of historical context. So, this paper contains intellectual history which focused the viewing toward Western on the Chinese intellectual minds. The paper will explore and give answers about (1) how they represent European and Indo-European in their minds (2) why they represent the European and Indo-European, and (3) how the impact of political and vision of the authors in their works. Based on literary works and historical context, the phenomenon of literary works will bring into interpretation between spirit of age and topic of European and Indo European images in their literary works

Abstract

Bali and Sumbawa belongs to Austronesian languages. Which the languages genetically have cognate. So there are shows sound changes, that is called phonemics correspondence. Sound changes in the Bali and Sumbawa languages happen with continuity. Based on the assumption, one of the method used to prove it is using comparative analysis by using phonemic correspondence technique. Based on the technique mentioned above, it was found that the formula  phonemic correspondence in Bali and Sumbawa languages, those are: a.      *a > /ə ~ a / excpecially on position opened  ultima and closed ultima, which is bilabial, palatal. b.      *u > /u ~ i / on closed ultima.

Abstract

No person in the world is perfect. He/She has both good and bad sides of personality, which should be balanced and cannot be separated. However, Dr Henry Jeckyll, the main character of RL Stevenson’s Dr Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, tries to seperate his good and bad sides of personality. As Dr Jeckyll with good personality, he enjoys honorable and respectful life. Meanwhile, as Mr Hyde, he enjoys wicked and evil life. To do this he uses special potion as the result of his experiment. This second life, however, is gradually getting stronger, so he needs more and more potion to transform him back to Dr Jeckyll. Finally his potion does not work any longer, and this leads to his horrible death.

Abstract

Nowdays, we have a lot of corruption, proverty, injustice, and bribery in our county. These symptoms show the attitude of our society which tend to be selfish so that they less pay attention to their surroundings, whereas our country known as prosperous country and the people are friendly and polite. Youth as a part of society who will be the next leader of this country, their nationalism should be awaken in order that their enthusiasm of nationally is strong. If it is not anticipated, that condition will make their enthusiasm of nationaly annihilated. Meanwhile, it will be needed a leader which have perception of nationally leadership to build perception of nationality which empty into national integration. It means that how important it is to strenghten enthusiasm of nationality to youth because they are the hope of nation and state to continue estafette of nation leadership. One of the ways to plant enthusiasm of nationality is through literary learning with nationalism theme. Literary teaching at school can be mean to make enthusiasm of nationality better by introducing and conveying masterpiece in Indonesia literary words to students. So, this paper will also see literary words which choosen in literature handbooks whether nationalism topic have an attention.

Abstract

Woman Struggling to reach patriarchal hegemony does not happen in reality but it is happened in Indonesian literatures. One of them is Perempuan Berkalung Sorban, a novel written by Abidah El Khalieqy. The general aim of the research was described how a woman struggles patriarchal hegemony in novel. The result of research shows that Anisa, as the main character in novel, struggles to reach patriarchal hegemony in the community of a moslem boarding school (pesantren) community that place women inferiority.
