Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Aloe vera Gel edible coating concentration on the quality of getas merah guava during storage and to identify the optimal concentration for maintaining fruit quality. The method used in this study was a Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD) with five treatment concentrations of Aloe vera Gel edible coating: K1 (control), K2 (20%), K3 (25%), K4 (30%), and K5 (35%). The measured parameters included fruit moisture content, respiration rate, weight loss, firmness, reducing sugar, and vitamin C content. Measurements were conducted on days 0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 of storage. The results showed that the concentration of Aloe vera Gel edible coating significantly affected fruit moisture content, respiration rate, firmness, reducing sugar, and vitamin C levels in getas merah guava. However, there was no significant effect on fruit weight loss. The 35% Aloe vera Gel edible coating concentration (K5) was the most effective treatment in maintaining the quality of getas merah guava during storage. Abstract

This study aims to develop a valid encyclopedia of vertebrate biodiversity and to receive positive responses from students and teachers at SMA Swasta Gajah Mada Medan. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the Borg & Gall development model, which consists of 10 stages. The results show that media experts rated this product at 90%, categorized as "Highly valid." Material experts provided a rating of 93.75%, also categorized as "Highly valid." A limited product trial involving 20 students from class X MIA resulted in an N-Gain score of 0.65, classified as moderate. In a large-scale field trial, an N-Gain score of 0.61 was obtained, also classified as moderate. In conclusion, the vertebrate material encyclopedia is valid and suitable for use by students as a learning resource, as it has received positive evaluations. Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of problem-based learning (PBL) on high school students' environmental literacy by considering socio-scientific factors. The main focus of this research is the environmental literacy of students at SMA Plus Sedayu Nusantara in Medan Marelan District. The method used is a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group and a quantitative approach. The study population consisted of 62 tenth-grade students at SMA Plus Sedayu Nusantara, divided into two groups: the experimental class (X MIA1, 31 students) and the control class (X MIA2, 31 students). Research instruments included multiple-choice tests, essays, and attitude questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using an independent t-test with the SPSS v24 software. The results showed that the average learning outcome of the experimental class increased from 55 to 78 after treatment, while the control group increased from 47 to 57. Descriptive statistical analysis indicated a difference in the average environmental literacy levels between the experimental and control groups. The t-test results confirmed that the average score of the experimental class was significantly higher than that of the control class. In conclusion, problem-based learning (PBL) is effective in improving high school students' environmental literacy by considering socio-scientific factors. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of drought stress and planting media combinations on the growth of soybean (Glycine max L.). The research method used was a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of two factors. The first factor was planting media (P0 = 5 kg soil (control)/pot, P1 = 2 kg soil + 2 kg coconut coir (cocopeat) + 1 kg vermicompost/pot, P2 = 2 kg soil + 2 kg rice husk + 1 kg vermicompost/pot, and P3 = 2 kg soil + 1 kg coconut coir (cocopeat) + 1 kg rice husk + 1 kg vermicompost/pot). The second factor was irrigation with four methods (S0 = 100% watering, S1 = 80% watering, S2 = 60% watering, and S3 = 40% watering). The observed parameters included plant height, root length, fresh weight, leaf area, relative growth rate, and net assimilation rate. Data analysis was performed using One-Way ANOVA followed by Duncan’s test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that plant height, leaf area, dry weight, and root length under different planting media indicated that P3 had the highest values, followed by P2. The relative growth rate of soybeans under different planting media showed that P2 was the best, followed by P0, while the net assimilation rate under different planting media showed that P1 had the highest results, followed by P0. The results of plant height, leaf area, dry weight, and root length under drought stress indicated that S0 had the highest values, followed by S1. The relative growth rate of soybeans under drought stress showed that S3 was the best, followed by S2, while the net assimilation rate under drought stress showed that S1 had the highest results. The best treatment combination for plant height, leaf area, root length, and dry weight was P3S0. For relative growth rate, the best combination was P2S3, while for net assimilation rate, the best combination was P1S1. Keywords: Drought Stress, Soybean, Planting Media

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model on students' creative thinking skills in science learning at the junior high school level. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. This study involved all seventh-grade students at MTs Negeri 1 Serang, consisting of 10 classes. The research sample was randomly selected, with Class VII A as the experimental group using the Contextual Teaching and Learning model, while Class VII E served as the control group using the Discovery Learning model. Data collection was carried out through creative thinking skill essay tests and non-test observations of students' creative thinking abilities. The test instrument used was validated and tested for reliability. The results showed that the Contextual Teaching and Learning model significantly influenced the improvement of students' creative thinking skills. Although the data distribution was not normal, hypothesis testing using statistical tests indicated significant differences between the pretest and posttest results. Thus, the Contextual Teaching and Learning model can be an effective alternative to enhancing students' creative thinking skills in understanding scientific concepts, particularly concerning environmental pollution issues.
