Abstract

The Creative Industry Gallery (CIG) functions as a space for a diverse range of products from the creative industries, such as fashion, culinary, and furniture, including the uniqueness of antique items offered by the Asem Kawak community. The CIG serves not only as a venue for visitors to engage in transactions but also as a platform for antique traders to interact and conduct their businesses. This research aims to investigate the processes of exchange and transactions among traders, analyzing their interactions. It also seeks to identify key factors contributing to the formation of social networks, including symbolic exchange, values, and practices. Furthermore, this research highlights the contributions of antique traders in fulfilling their family economic needs. To achieve this, the study draws upon Karl Polanyi's concept of social embeddedness, complemented by Frederick Barth's social exchange theory. The chosen research approach is qualitative-ethnographic, involving the collection of information through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Subsequently, the obtained data is carefully examined through reduction, presentation, and drawing research conclusions. Research findings indicate the complexity of social interactions in the formation and maintenance of the Asem Kawak community network. Economic transactions influence social dynamics and individuals' self-perceptions within the group. Social interactions play a key role in collective success. The integration of the antique goods market is based on the concept of reciprocity. Aligned with the embeddedness concept in Polanyi's theory, the success of traders in creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic growth also supports the idea that the economy is closely linked to social and societal factors.

Abstract

This article discusses about the spatial development of tourism and the impact on the local revenue of tourism in Batang Regency 2011-2019. This research uses historical method to analyze the spatial development of tourism in Batang Regency and its impact on the local revenue of tourism sector. Batang Regency tourism is famous because of its potential and therefore development efforts are made in the spatial aspect. The spatial development in tourism sector certainly has an impact on the local revenue of Batang Regency’s tourism sector. This article reveals which areas and tourism destination are included in the spatial development, what aspects are developed and how it relates to the success of local revenue from tourism sector in Batang Regency.

Abstract

Joe as the main character is in the spotlight of the You series audience because of his very brutal actions. When the writer viewed it from the perspective of a low-level defense mechanism, this kind of brutality assuredly could have formed. The method used in analyzing this article is library research through primary data, which is by the You series itself, and secondary data from previous research connected with this article. The result of this research is that the influence of Joe's bad past on his family is the origin of the low-level defense mechanism that occurs in Joe causing him to commit physical aggression toward people around Beck by killing them. Hence, it can be concluded that Joe's increased anxiety can make Joe's bad ego affect more and physical aggression occurs.

Abstract

Conservatism is one of the ideological expressions to maintain the circumstances and power in society. One of the popular literary works that depict conservatism as an ideology is Tarantino’s movie “Inglorious Basterds.” The idea of conservatism as an ideology is represented through the central characters in the plot, the “Basterds.” This study aimed to analyze the representation of conservatism as an ideology in the movie Inglorious Basterds. The writers applied a sociological approach and analyzes the social behavior and social history depicted by the characters in the movie. According to the findings, conservatism’s representation as an ideology is shown by the characterization of the “Basterds” that uphold their rules, value, and tradition. However, it does not mean they cannot accept other values or traditions completely. The writers also found that the movie challenges the standard American remembrance of World War II. Consequently, it is essential to highlight that conservatives do not dishonor and reject other norms, values, or traditions.Keywords: Ideology; Conservatism; Popular literature

Abstract

Clean water is not just a necessity, but the basic right of every living creature, including humans. However, in reality, not all regions in Indonesia enjoy adequate access to clean water, and Messah Island is one example. The people of Messah Island face serious challenges in accessing clean water due to their geographical location and extreme climate conditions, which force them to rely on sea water as a daily source of air. The research results detail that there is a solution that can be implemented to overcome the clean water crisis on Messah Island, namely through a seawater distillation and desalination program. Distillation aims to translate water, while desalination processes seawater into fresh water. This second method can be an effective solution to meet the need for clean water on this island. The importance of the government's role in this effort cannot be ignored. The government is expected to not only provide distillation and desalination facilities, but also support understanding regarding sustainable management of community clean water. Only with active government involvement and cooperation between stakeholders can the clean water crisis on Messah Island be overcome and the basic right to clean water can be guaranteed for all communities.Keywords: Clean water, Distillation, Desalination, Messah Island, Clean water crisis
