Abstract

The article uses manuscripts of Erang-erang Sekar Panjang as the object of research from two sources: one which is kept at the National Library and the other is of personal collection in Kaliwungu and Pekalongan. Those manuscripts were chosen for they contain Islamic poetry familiar to most Javanese Moslems and expressions of esoteric Sufism and Islamic moral teachings. The method used here is philological and thematic. The philological method has an aim to get text that is far from error. The thematic method, on the other hand, aims to study the main topic of the text. It is then analyzed how the Islamic poetry and hizb and wirid approach Allah through the use of basmallah, subhanallah, la ilaha illallah, hasbunallah and so on and how the Koran teaches Moslems to reflect the traits of Allah through tanzih  or tasybih. By comparing the manuscripts I conclude that the first manuscript is older, and more complete. The content of  doctrine escathology and theology is about the doctrine of Islamic ‘Aqidah, such as (1) the traits of Allah, (2) Quran as a qadim or jaded, (3) the human being action, (4) qada’  and qadar, (5) punishment problems,  (6) heaven and hell, and so on. Keywords : syi’ir, performing-art, Islamic manuscript, esoteris, wirid.

Abstract

The aims of the study are to examine rhetorical functions in the Introduction, section and to find out whether rhetorical functions employed by non-native speakers have been or have not been conformed to the principles of writing introduction in a research article. The data of this study were collected from a number of science journals written by lecturers of five state universities. As the data belonged to one type of papers, Genre Analysis was employed. The results indicate that majority of the English research articles in the Introduction section by non-native speakers have not met the criteria or principles suggested by the experts representing Anglophone scientific work which has so far still dominated the publication of all scientific information written in English. In order to improve academic writing skill, we should introduce the principles of writing scientific journals to the students of higher education as early possible; let’s say, starting from the first year of study. Abstract

This study finds that children follow a specific pattern in their daily communication. They know when to talk and when to be silent as a litener. They also avoid jumbled roles while communicating and pay attention to communicationi rules. The practice of turntaking among children is highly influenced by their culture within their environment. Giving answers, monopolizing conversations, cutting current speaker is not found among children who are taught early about communication norms. Eventhough most children follow adjacency pairs theoretically, many examples show that they don’t always do that. Keywords : turn taking, adjacency pairs, children communication pattern

Abstract

Returning to hometown phenomenon has became a tradition in Indonesia. That tradition is considered as the most effective movement to contribute fund to the rural area. Returning to hometown is accelerating money distribution from urban area to rural area. The tradition of returning to hometown is happened because of the migration movement from rural area to urban area which then becoming an uncontrollable urbanization. The uncontrollable urbanization is happened because of the poverty matter in the rural area. Meanwhile, the uncontrollable urbanization is also creating poverty in the urban area. That’s because lots of the informal sector workers are farmers who leave their rural area. The tradition of returning to hometown contains the dimensions of spiritual, psychological and social that must be addressed by implementing a cultural heteronomy. The commuters are in the pulling aside condition between the new situation and values and the old situation and values. The tradition of returning to hometown is expressing the strength of the primordial bindings of the urban people, while the urban values should be more mondial characterized. Urban area, for the commuters, are not more just a shelter, while their home is still considered in the rural area where they are coming from. Abstract

We can track from history that Indonesian ancestors have long used maritime resources as food supply. They created many smart tools to catch fish and other edible creatures. Since colonial era up to now, the technology to exploit the sea is more and more modernized, from the gathering to preserving and packaging stage. Indonesian fishermen face challenges in competing with foreign fishermen on the matter of this kind of technology. Therefore it is important that the government keep on giving support and assistance and creating further innovations in order to manifest and secure its vision of self-sufficient country in the matter of food supply. Abstract

Multiculturalism is both an ideology and a means to create egalitarian and peaceful relationship between cultural groups in Indonesia. But there are some problems found when we analyze its basic assumptions, i.e. the principle of egality and recognition of differences. Firstly, a tension happens between ‘one and many’, where multiculturalism ironically will neglect similarities while emphasizing differences among cultural groups. Secondly, conflicts may arise between claims of egality of minorities. If we want to proceed with the multicultural agenda, we need to solve these problems. Keywords: multiculturalism, egality, recognition, minorities
