The CMES (Center of Middle Eastern Studies) journal is a distinguished peer-reviewed academic publication dedicated to advancing rigorous scholarly research on Middle Eastern studies. It publishes high-caliber research articles, theoretical studies, and critical reviews that engage with both contemporary and historical issues relevant to the region, employing a multidisciplinary approach. The CMES journal serves as a dynamic intellectual platform for researchers, academics, and practitioners to exchange innovative findings and perspectives, advancing Middle Eastern studies through a multidisciplinary framework grounded in the epistemological foundations of the humanities and social sciences. In the humanities, the journal emphasizes linguistics, literature, and Arab culture, while in the social sciences, it focuses on politics, economics, education, and the social dimensions of Arab societies. CMES encourages scholarly work that engages these disciplines through monodisciplinary inquiry, interdisciplinary synthesis, or transdisciplinary dialogue, fostering conceptual integration and methodological interaction across disciplinary boundaries. Manuscripts submitted to CMES must be pertinent to Middle Eastern studies and demonstrate clear engagement with the epistemic traditions of their respective fields. Submissions are expected to exhibit rigorous methodology, original insights, and significant contributions to regional studies, while appealing to a global academic audience.

Abstract

This paper describes the brief history of Humour in Arabs from (1) the earlier preIslamic period, (2) the Islamic period, (3) the medieval Arabic Literature (Abbasid), and (4) Mamaluke, Fatimid, Ayyubid, and Ottoman periods. This paper will try to show thatArabic literature is rife with the unique taste of Arabs in humour and comedy. Finally, the result of data analysis shows that humour in the earlier pre-Islamic period and the Islamic period is used dominantly at satirical poem which is called hija‟. But in the medieval period until Ottoman period, Arabic humour and comedy has been spreading to the modern prose, shuch as romantic novel, elegant style of fable, public theater – shadow play and some of elegiac short stories.

Abstract

Research on Radical Islamic Movement and Terrorism in Indonesia: Study ofIntegration Efforts against Nations will review the symptoms and done by a group ofreligious communities in prioritizing some of the principal teachings of his religion andstudied violence and intimidation from the perspective of religious teachings. How isideology behind the acts of violence and terrorism, and how the views of religious leadersagainst the ideology. On the other hand, it is also assessed the strengths and weaknessesof the government in overcoming the action. It will be found the rules that can be used asa guide for policy makers to undertake preventive measures.   This research is useful in politic, sociology and religious field. This research wouldbe useful to inform the public about the ideology and worldview of radical Islamicmovements and terrorism, and its relation to nation integration. Understanding of thenation's character is very important to help the realization of national security system. Acountry having a good separation in nation‟s character will have positive steps toanticipate the problems of national security.

Abstract

Arabic literature in Andalusia is a part of the enriching presence of Arab literature in Middle East. Geographically, Andalusia is located in Europe. Arabic literature comesinto Europe by Futuhat Islamiyah. Color and pattern in Arabic Andalusian literary,which became known as the Arab Maghreb Literature - opponent of Arabic literatureMasyriq - very different from the forms of Arabic literature in the Middle East. Kind of acomplex society and Andalusia are from different races and religions with beautifulnatural conditions and rich powerful influence for Arabic literature. So that the writerscreate works that are creative, beautiful, with high imagination and choice of words areeasy to understand. Many emerging new literary genres that are not known in Masyriqlike Mala Luzum Yalzam , Muwasyah or Muaradhah. Many literary works are timelessand be a reference to the works of modern literature in the world. Abstract

This article describes a method of spiritual dimension in understanding the nature ofart. One of the ideas that emerged in the art world is the idea of the spiritual artconceived by Seyyed Hossein Nasr. Art is a spiritual view of creativity that once a form ofart presupposes that actually has the dimensions or viewpoints that are not one-sided buttwo-way, i.e. physical viewpoint or exoteric and esoteric spiritual viewpoint.   This study was conducted based on the hermeneutic readings to the texts of religiousthought. The purpose is to find an aesthetic view of the artwork that builds upon religiousvalues and how spiritual art form in the light of faith is placed in human life maqamamong other arts. Spiritual art is not a choice but something that exists, which should beread through physical knowledge that real empirical.

Abstract

his paper analyzes sufistic literature of Jalaluddin Muhammad Maulavi throughhis works Matsnawi al-Ma‟nawi. Based on analyze, this book not only contain basicprinciples of religion, but also contain other universal values.  His view about unity ofexistence (wahdatul wujud) is the character of his thought about live and the existence ofGod. Love can deliver human in real peace and happiness. Besides, Maulavi has his ownview about woman. Woman is people bring in positive and negative energy. The Sufisdescribes woman as creature having same ability with man. Although in certain phrase,he dramatizes woman position as despicable creature.

Abstract

This article discusses phonetic thoughts of Ibnu Jinni, scientist who became a central figure in the development of Arabic phonetics. His work named Sirru Shinâ‟atil I‟râbis the first phonetic book in Arabic. He also called this science with terminology„Ilmul-Ashwât which is still used by Arabic scientist until now. These features are behindthe writing of this article. This article to describe Ibnu Jinni curriculum vitae, the bookSirru Shinâ‟atil-I‟râb, and phonetic thoughts of Ibnu Jinni and his contribution in  Arabicphonetic progress The conclusion is that Ibnu Jinni has given big contribution in Arabicphonetic progress. The most important thing is his research about vowel. There are somany vowel studied and be the main reference for the next study.

Abstract

One of the unique Arabic languages is an ellipsis system or one of the elementscontained in an utterance.  Among the Arabic sentence systems getting ellipsis isconditional sentences (al-jumlah a‟sy-syarthiyyah). This article describes the study ofellipsis in Arabic conditional sentence reviewed from the linguistics perspective. Thediscussion in this study is focused on the theoretical concept of conditional sentences inArabic and the concept of ellipsis (hadzf) specifically. Syntactic approach is used in thisresearch to assess the grammatical structure as conditional markers, the relationshipbetween the clauses of conditional sentences, the relationship between conditionalsentences with other linguistic elements.

Abstract

Based on the above, the issues examined in this study is the locution of speech acts,illocution and perlocution in a Friday khotbah by Egyptian native speakers Syeikh Sa‘i>dRuslan with the theme Baina As}-S}u>rah wa Al-H}aqi>qah’ between picture and reality, onApril 25, 2008 in mosque Syarqi> in Manu>fiyyah province, Subkh Ah}ad, Marka>z Asymu>n village, Cairo, Mesir with a pragmatic analysis. The data are sentences containinglocution, illocution and perlocution. The result of analysis shows that speaker of Friday khotbah (khat}i>b) not only use one speech act, but also use some speech acts, that islocution speech act, illocution speech act and perlocution speech act. Locution speech actis the most widely used in Friday khotbah, because it is only used to declare or informsomething. In first and second khotbah, the data of locution speech act is found inopening, content and closing.  The data of illocution speech act is found in opening andcontent, while perlocution speech act is found in closing. Illocution speech act includesFollow-illocutionary in the data message includes assertive (strengthen), directive(prohibiting, commanding), expressive (praise), declaration (testimony), commissive(swear).
