Abstract

ABSTRACT In general, the used evaluation form to measure the students’ abilities is evaluation form in multiple choice and essay, but this evaluation still has weaknesses which are there are possibilities that the students do not know the correct answer and it has low realibility. From the weaknesses, the researcher wanted to produce two levels multiple choice diagnostic test assessment instrument in order to find outthe passing of the students’ outcomes with 21 students for the first trial and 118 students for the main trial. This research consisted of 7 steps which were (1) Research and the collection of information, (2) Planning, (3) The development of introductory product, (4) Preliminary trial, (5) The revision on main product, (6) Field trial, and (7) The revision of product. The research result showed that the two levels multiple choice diagnostic test was feasible to be used. The test result from 118 students using the two levels multiple choice diagnostic test showed the validity value of Vainstrument was 3.97, the effectiveness value was 85.57 %, and the practical value was 78.80%. The obtained test result, before and after using the two levels multiple choice diagnostic test showed that there was improvement on students’ learning outcomes which was 59.3 %. Therefore, the two levels multiple choice diagnostic test can measure and improve the students’ learning outcomes.Keywords: Development, Two Levels Multiple Choice, Two Levels Multiple Choice DiagnosticTest

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aimed by the students’ low learning outcomes class at the elemerith grade X of SMK Negeri 2 Pontianak on chemistry subject, especially in the matter of redox reactions. The aim of this study was to determine differences in learning outcomes class at the elemerith grade X of SMK Negeri 2 Pontianak in the matter redox reactions being taught by cooperative learning model snowball throwing type by flash media with the lecture method by flash media and to determine the influence of cooperative learning model snowball throwing using flash media on learning outcomes class at the elemerith grade X of SMK Negeri 2 Pontianak academic year 2014/2015. This research was Quasi Experimental Research Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sampling system was simple random sampling technique. This study employed the students of grade X TITL as the samples of experiment group, and the students of grade X TSM as the samples of control group. The techniques of data collections used measurement and observation. Meanwhile the instruments employed that is the achievement test in the form of essay. The calculation results of the post test effect size of 0.83, which meant cooperative learning model snowball throwing type by flash media influence which was 29.67 % and considered high which indicated the positive effect. The results showed differences between the learning outcomes which were taught by using cooperative learning model snowball throwing type by flash media with the lecture method by flash media.Keywords: Learning Outcomes, Snowball Throwing, Redox Reactions, Flash Media

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe low students’ learning outcomes and the failure in achieving the maximum mastery standard in Buffer Solutions material are caused by the students’ inability in understanding the questions. Students tend to merely pay attention on the Buffer Solutions material when the learning process takes place. However, they face confusion when they have to answer the questions of the task and the test. This study aimed at discovering the difficulties and the factors related to the students’ difficulties on Buffer Solutions material at XI IPA 1 class of MAN 2 Pontianak. Using case study descriptive method and qualitative approach, this study employed 29 students as the samples. The data collection technique used were indirect communication (questionnaires), direct communication (interview), and documentation techniques. While the data collection tools used were achievement test, questionnaires and interview. The data analysis results indicated that 68.3% students had difficulties on pH and pOH Buffer Solutions. On the other hand, the internal factorsthat affected the student learning difficulties were motivation aspect, that is, the students 'attention to the Buffer Solutions (54.31%), and talent aspect that influenced the student’s learning difficulties, that is, the students’ ability in recognizing numbers and figures respectively (48,6%) and talent aspect that influenced the student’s learning difficulties in Buffer Solutions materials (47%). In addition, the external factor that affected the student learning difficulties were family as the place to study (56%), and school as the facilitator (56,56%). Thereby, students are expected to further enhance the knowledge on the Buffer Solutions and have a discussion with both teachers and peers to cope with their learning difficulties.Keywords: Analysis, Students’ Learning Difficulties, Buffer Solutions

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research had the purpose to find out the difference between the students’ learning outcomes which were taught by using NHT type of Cooperative Learning Method Assisted Video as Media and Lectures Method Assisted Video as Media as well as to find out how large the effect of NHT type of Cooperative Learning Method Assisted Video as Media in XI IPA class of SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Ambawang. This research was Quasi Experimental Research Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sampling technique was saturated sample based on the students’ daily tests scores. The techniques of data collection used measurement, indirect observation and direct communication techniques. The data analysis result showed that the mean score of experimental class (72.50) was higher compared to the mean score of control class which was 60.50. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test resultsshowed that one class did not distribute normally so that it was done the statistical analysis using U-mannwhitneytest which obtained 0.028. This result was smaller than α(0.05) which meant that there was difference between experimental and control class. The calculation of effect size showed the value of 0.54 in moderate category and referred to the table Z which obtained 20.54% value. It showed that NHT type of Cooperative Learning Method Assisted Video as Media gave effect on students’ learning outcomes.Keywords : Learning Outcomes, The Reaction Rate, Numbered Heads Together (NHT)

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe complex and abstract characteristics of Chemical materials requires students to have higher thinking skills to learn. Relationship of students' thinking skills and the ability to learn chemistry indicates the need of formal thinking skills in learning chemistry. This study aimed at describing the grade X students’ thinking skills and learning outcomes, and finding the correlation of grade X students’ learning outcomes and their formal thinking skills. The results of analysis revealed that as many as 7 students were able to correctly answer the burney test questions and achieved value range of 17-24. This value was included in the criteria of formal thinking. In addition, the preferred correct answers were the correlation a land combinatorial reasoning. A total of 10 students of grade XD, SMA Negeri 9 Pontianak obtained test results of chemistry achievement at ≥ 65, while 26 students scored completeness at ≤ 65. The data obtained showed the positive correlation between formal thinking skills and learning outcomes with correlation coefficient sof 0.514 or 51.4%. Hence, it can be concluded that there is a positive relationship of formal thinking skills and students’ learning outcomes in learning chemistry.Keywords : Students’ learning outcomes, The ability of Formal thinking, Learning Chemistry

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study was initiated by the students’ low learning outcomes on Chemistry subject and the teachers’ preference in using lecture method in teaching learning process.This study aimed at 1) finding out the differences of students’ learning outcomes between the use of flash media-assisted practical method and lecture method on hydrocarbon class at grade XI MIA of SMA Muhammadiyah I Pontianak. Using quasi experimental design and Control Group Posttes Design, this study employed the students of grade XI MIA 2 as the samples of experiment group, andthe students of grade XI MIA 2 as the samples of control group. The data collection techniques used were measurement and observation. While the instruments employed were observation sheet and essay. TheU-Mann Whitneytest revealed that the post test score of 0,0140< 0,05 Ho was rejected, while the Ha one was accepted. It means that there was correlation of students’ learning outcomes between the experiment and the control groups. In addition, the effect size result was 1,086 > 0,8 and considered high which indicated the positive effect of flash media-assisted practical method in enhancing students’ learning achievement.Keywords: flash, learning outcomes, hydrocarbon, practical method

Abstract

ABSTRACT Chemistry is characterized by abstract concepts and theories which is rather difficult and requires formal thinking skill. This research was aimed to describe student’s formal thinking skill, student’s learning achievement, and the correlation between of them. Students of XI IPA were used as population of this research, while 29 students from XI IPA 1 were chosen as samples. The sampling used purposive sampling technichuques. Student’s formal thinking skill data were collected using Test of Logical Thinking (Tobin and Capie, 1981). The results showed that 72,41% students were in formal thinking stage, while 24,14%, and 3,45% students were in transitional stage and concrete stage, respectively. Student’s learning achievement data were analyzed from student’s semester test and it was found that student average score was 70,86. Correlation between student’s formal thinking and student’s learning achievment was analyzed using pearson product moment. It was concluded that ‘formal thinking ability’ affected student achievement by 0,527 in coefficient correlation, and 0,2774 in coefficient determination.Keywords: learning results, formal thinking skill, chemistry learning, Test of Logical Thinking

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aimed at describing thescientific work skill in guided inquiry-based colloid lab on XI IPA 2 students of MAN 2 Pontianak. Using descriptive method, this study employed 29 students as the subjects. The data collection techniques used were observation and interview. While thedata collection tools used were and interview guides. The average skillin formulating the problem was 100%, the skill informulating the hypothesis was 95.40%, the skill in conducting experiments was 86.59%, the skill in observing experimental results was 83.14%, the skillin analyzing the experimental results was 73.56%, and the skillin formulatingthe hypotheses was 70.12%. It can be concluded that the students of XI IPA 2 MAN 2 Pontianak are considered excellent as their overall average of scientific work skill inguided inquiry-based colloid lab was 84.48%.Keywords: Job Skills scientific, lab colloid-based guided inquiry

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was aimed by the impractical assessment used by the teacher. Therefore, teachers need the efficient and effective assessment system to help their work, such as wonder quiz creator. This study aimed at developing the assessment instrument on the Mole Concept on the grade X students of SMK Negeri 7 Pontianak. The model used was a modified 4-D (to 3-D) Thiagarajan; definition, design, and development. The data collecting technique used were measurement, and direct and indirect communication. The study revealed that wondershare quiz creator was considered usable. The student’s positive response was strong (76,49%) and the teacher’s positive response was very strong (90%). The effectiveness obtained probability (sig) score of 0,106>0,05, which means that there was a difference of before and after the assessment instrument given. As a result, the wondershare quiz creator is considered valid and usable. It is also preferred by the students as their response are good and positive. However, it is less effective to assess the final test.Keywords: Mole Concept, development, Wondershare quiz creator

Abstract

ABSTRACT Science literacy is a key to face the challenge in this global era. It becomes a demand to be mastered by every individual whether in daily life or work field. An individual who is aware of science can use the scientific information that he has, to solve the problem in daily life. This research is done to give a description about twelve grade students' ability in learning chemistry based on PISA science literacy in SMAN 1 Teluk Keramat. The method applied in this research is quantitative descriptive. The sample of this research were twelve grade students of SMAN 1 Teluk Keramat. To collect data, the writer implemented some techniques. Those are measurement technique and direct communication technique. The instruments in collecting data in this research are students' achievement test in the form of essay and multiple choice in a passage. Based on the research findings, it showed that chemistry learning in SMAN 1 Teluk Keramat have already trained students' ability in science literacy. It is found that the students' ability in science literacy is  about 68,91% for the content science ability which is categorized as intermediate level and 68,91 for the context science ability, categorized as intermediate level.
