Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the implementation of Two stay Two Stray in teacing reading and students’ responses in teaching reading with the technique of Two Stay Two Stray. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative design in conducting the research. The participant is third semester students of English Department of STKIP PGRI Jombang in academic year 2017/2018. to collect the data the researcher uses a field note, observation checklist and  questionaire. The result shows that Teaching reading by using “Two Stay Two Stray” focused on the students’ center activity and focused on improving students’ skills. Most of the students also agree TSTS influences their ability. It can make them getting easy in understanding the text. In TSTS, the students got many activities in understanding the text. Each activities has special features. The first way concerns to group work and the second way can be group work, pair work, or individual work. Based on the questionnaires given to the students, most of the students enjoy the class well.Keywords: Two Stay Two Stray, Students’ Responses

Abstract

This study is aimed at developing strategy to improve the speaking skill of grade ten students SMK NMC Malang through modeling strategy. Modeling strategy is the strategy of giving examples, actions, and demonstrations of a certain topic in teaching speaking. The teacher should give a model how to practice the dialogue. This strategy is implemented in two cylces classroom action research (CAR), the researcher teaches the students while the teacher of the school act as the observer. The analysis of data uses qualitative and quantative data. The qualitative data are obtained from the observation sheet and field notes. The quantitative data are obtained through the observation checklist of the students’ involvement, tests, and questionnaire. The finding of this study indicated that the implementation of modeling strategy has improved the students’ speaking skill and the students’ learning motivation. It is also revealed that the students’ achievement of the second test with mean score 77.30 is better than the mean score of the first test 63. The questionnaire also proves that the students are interested in learning English after the implementation of the modeling strategy

Abstract

This research is aimed to find the character type of Lord Voldemort as described in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince and the most dominant character of Lord Voldemort using a formalistic and psychological approach. The writer formulates the problem by making the following questions: (1) what are the characters type of Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince novel?, (2) what is the dominant character of Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince Novel?. In the process of study and analysis of the character type of the main characters in the Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince novel, the writer uses a formalistic and psychological approach to analyze, examine and understand some of the main character's personality in a novel. The writer also conducts library research in completing this analysis. The theory used in analyzing the character until finally found one dominant character of the main character.

Abstract

Novel becomes the exciting entertainment that everyone can enjoy. Within the novel the writer can analyze the part of both intrinsic and extrinsic. In this research the writer analyzes the feminist perspective in the Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger. The writer takes Miranda Priestly character as a viewing of feminist perspective in this modern era. The research is conducted to find out the characters and characterization and feminist perspective of Miranda Priestly. In analyzing the research, the writer uses feminist approach to analyze about women. Besides, the writer also uses library research which are the novel itself and some books or journal that can be found in the internet related to the character, characterization and feminism. There are nine characterization of Miranda Priestly shown in the analysis. The characterization that the writer analyzes are Jewish, Fashionable, Hectic, Demand, Power, Influence, Discriminate, Smart person, Care. The Feminist perspective of Miranda Priestly as women in this modern era are Appearance, Experience, and Psychology.

Abstract

Grasping the cultural identity in a society is the characteristic and signifier to the existence and dimension of society in their life. The life of community in the broadest sense exists in paradigm of reflection and representation in the plots of norm, ideology, tradition and aesthetic involved in and it should not be the dichotomy in space and time in transferring the meaning of life. It is the forms of integrity, responsibility in orders of values, hope, ideals and futurThe research represents the life of human being in following, encouraging, accompanying, even fighting for how to reach the cultural identity in terms of rational and historical times. Colored with the problems of social stratification, race, and gender, this novel tries to convey the forms of paradoxical analyses and sharply elaborated in the structures of oxymoron in which imply on the studies of culture in a society to find out the self-identity. The analyses of the research are in the approach of post-modernism discussed as the reaction to the established modern era and its colors, meanwhile the data analyzed in terms of qualitative method with the techniques of interpretative qualitative in the steps of: data comprehensively read, interpretation of meaning and critical analyses.

Abstract

There three points in this research. These are the proses of the use of paper seminar technic on writing class of English Department, the result of the use of paper seminar technic on writing class of English Department and obstacle of the use of paper seminar technic on writing class of English Department Art and Humanities Faculty, State Islamic University of Sunan Ampel Surabaya. This research method is Classroom Action Research. There are two cycles of this research. The enhancement appeared from the first cycle to the second cycle. It can be seen from the main indicator that shows the improvement. There are some variables that are used but only two variables that are not increase, these are prewriting and drafting.  So it can be said that this research is success. While the obstacle of this research are the weakness of students competence of English especially writing skill and the infrastructures that are not support.
