Abstract

Society is formed through a process of social relations that takes place on an ongoing basis between individuals and individuals, individuals and groups, and groups and groups. Interactions that occur continuously for a long time produce togetherness. In addition, social interaction also produces several patterns of shared relationships, shared values, social institutions and social care. In the context of rural communities, especially in Kaballokang Pakkabba Village, this social concern is manifested in the activity of sharing rice on Fridays (kanre juma). This study aims to elaborate in depth on the origins of the emergence of Kanre Juma and its function for society. This research was conducted using qualitative methods. Data was collected through observation and interviews. The results of the study showed that the division of the juma kanre was a continuation of people's habits during the Covid-19 pandemic. Kanre Juma in the perspective of functional theory has the functions of adaptation, goal attainment, integration and latency. The division of kanre juma has two dimensions in people's lives, namely as a form of worship that expects favor from God, and on the other hand it also strengthens family ties or social relations within the community. Keywords: generous, kanre juma, social solidarity

Abstract

Desa Ngadas in Malang Regency is an area with promising potential as a tourist destination. It has been recognized as a traditional tourism village that is able to attract both domestic and foreign tourists. In the development of its tourism sector, the aspect of human resources is crucial to be discussed. This paper aims to analyze the quality of human resources in Desa Ngadas through several aspects, namely health, education, socio-culture, economy, and community empowerment. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, involving 10 informants selected through purposive sampling technique. The results of this study depict the population's socio-cultural influence of the Tengger culture, which is closely tied to the traditions of the Tengger tribe. In terms of human quality, including nutrition and food, health, education, income, empowerment, independence, social environment, and economy, all depict the distinctive Tengger characteristics, with the majority working as farmers as the main alternative occupation, providing relatively high income for those who own agricultural land, while their social education is relatively low. The factors influencing the improvement of the capacity and quality of human resources are more dominant due to relatively low education and traditional mindsets. Keywords: human resources; tourism villages; village community

Abstract

In the study of international relations, Gastrodiplomacy emerges as a new and refreshing sub-study of diplomacy. Gastrodiplomacy explores the power and  influence potencies of using food as a tool of culinary diplomacy (Chapple-Sokol, 2013). The term gastrodiplomacy was first mentioned by The Economist, a British weekly newspaper, on February 21, 2002. Gastrodiplomacy was first used to describe the efforts of the Thai government and diaspora to popularize its cuisine around the world (The Economist, 2002). Rockower (2014) suggests that gastrodiplomacy calls for the integration of diplomatic relationships and culture. Integration aims to shape the national image or perception of a country on the global stage. Suntikul (2019) explains that gastrodiplomacy shows the collective efforts of the government and non-state actors to enhance the country’s reputation overseas by exposing foreign tourists and visitors to their traditional cuisine. In substance, gastrodiplomacy tries to promote a country’s cuisines and culinary traditions to enhance trans-cultural understanding, boost their global image, and develop the country’s tourism and trade. Keywords: gastrodiplomacy; public diplomacy; Indonesia
