Abstract

Up to the present time the compost heap of sugar cane has not yet been untilized to the greatest extent. The compost heap, however, has been a major animal feed. In Indonesia about 6.49 million sugar cane tops, 2.78 million ton kletekan and 1.86 million ton sugar sogolan can be obtained each year. By product of sugar processing can yield bagasse, blotong and molasses. All of these by products are potential as a substitute for common forage in ruminants particularly during a relatively long dry season as long protein sources provided. On the other hand the supply of animal feed is becoming scarce and expensive. The farm land growth is limited, especially in dry season. With regard to the potentials mentioned along with animal feed technology, the compost heap of the sugar cane can be converted into essential animal feed. The waste of sugar cane can be processed become wafer and the use can reached 50 – 55 % from the total of the forage in ruminants.Key words : waste, sugar can, forage, wafer, ruminants.

Abstract

Evaluation of the water quality status at Abang Island Region was conducted by using the STORET and Canbera Similarity Indeks during Mei, June and October 2006. Thes analysis result shows that the water quality within this region was within the range of good to moderate. This condition indicats that the water quality status is still suitable to support the marine biotic life. During May, the water quality was good, but in June and October was decreased due to the increasing of the organic material transported by land surface run off driven by precipitation as response to the seasonal change.Key words : Kualitas air, Pulau Abang, Indeks Storet, Indeks Similaritas Canbera.

Abstract

Natural daylighting methods for building commonly used windows and facade openings to let sunlight inside the interior of building. Hence, light quality received sometimes inadequate and unoptimal which caused natural lighting being replaced by artifi cial (electric) lighting that lead into dependency of electrical lighting. Fiber optic has a capability of transmitting optical wave including sunlight which already collected throught concentrating sunlight collector. Through fi ber optic sunlight transmitted inside building with better intensity and improved quality than artifi cial produced light.Key words: daylighting, fi ber optic

Abstract

This study is conduct to evaluate the changes of biogeophysical aspects of Leuwigajah Dumping Area (TPA) after the slidding event of municipal solid wastes in 2005. It is necessary to reuse the TPA in the future through rehabilitation and revitalitation. The study is important due to the detail engineering design (DED) of new TPA which is still in an on going process, whereas need some consideration from technical and non-technical aspects. The result of geological survey showed that there is no signifi cant changes in geological condition, whether the changes were found in groundwater and surface water quality, before and after the slidding event. At the other side, the result of existing solid waste material showed that a high heavy metals content was found in the bulk material. It isalso found that the quality of degraded material yet is closed to compost, with a C/N ratio between 12,04 to 15,74. This compost-soil is recommended for daily cover soil at the TPA. So, before operating a new TPA, landfi ll mining must be done as initial activity. To reduce or minimize environmental impact the new TPA has to apply sanitary landfi ll method.Key words : biogeophysical, post slidding , Leuwigajah dumping area

Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country and the richest country in the world for biodiversity, including fl ora and fauna, invertebrates, phytoplankton, bacteria, and huge number of fungus such as mushrooms, molds, mildews and smuts. White rot fungi is one of the ubiquitous creatures in Indonesia. Results indicated that white rot fungus has ability to degrade successfully some organic pollutansin the environment, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB’s), Trinitrotoluence (TNT), and DDT. This organism has ability to release intra and extra-cellular enzymes. There are three important rules in these degradation processes, called lignin modifi ed enzymes (LME’s) including Lignin peroxidase, Mn-dependent peroxidase and Laccase. White rot fungi contains all three enzymes and able to breakdown and mineralize several environmental pollutants into non toxic forms. This paper discuss several processes responsible for this degradation.Key words: White rot fungi, bioremediation, lignin modifi ed enzymes, persistent organic pollutants.

Abstract

Textile Industry gives economic and fi nancial contribution to society, however it has negative impact to the environment, i.e. air pollution, bad smell and noise. For that reason, a study to evaluate exhaust gas emission of some industry textile was carried out from the stack. The aim of the study is to abtain SO2 gas concentration, which is emited from the stack A gas dispersion anlysis, it was indicated that SO2 gas concentration from the stack is still below the standard (1200 mg/m3). Thehighest SO2 concentration was 18 mg/m3 at about 200 meter away from the stack. It meant that SO2 concentration and SO2 odor from the textile industry did not give any impact to the environmentKey words: emission, textile industry,

Abstract

It was until the end of 2007, the meat of nutmeg was abandoned near the trees, in Mollucas Islands, especially in Ambon island and Banda island. The nutmeg meat was considered as waste of nutmeg agribusiness. An effort to make the waste become a valuable product had been done. It was used as the raw material of nutmeg syroop which gives added value to nutmeg and benefi t to those who drink it. The process and apparatus to make the syroop were simple, it begin with extraction of nutmeg meat, sterilization of the syroop container, mixing the extract with sugar, bottling, labeling. With the ratio of extracted juice to sugar 1:1, the product have good taste and fl avor, which was preferred by panels. The syroop produced contained vitamine C 1,22% and reduced sugar of 25,35%. Financial analysis showed the profi t of this product was Rp.10.000,- per bottle and could be increased by expanding market and production. Keywords : Waste of nutmeg, abandoned, added value, extracted juice, syroop, profi t, market, taste, flavor
