Abstract

Groundwater is water that located beneath surface. The water moves down into the ground because of gravity, passing between particles of soil, sand, gravel, or rock until it reaches a depth where the ground is fi lled, or saturated, with water. Groundwater is stored in the ground in materials like gravel or sand. To meet a demand of drinking water in the Padang Area, groundwater is one ofsolution to overcome a problem of the need of drinking water, because the availability of surface water is not suffi cient. In this paper, it will be discussed concerning characteristic and condition of ground water by applying geoelectrical technology in Padang Area, Tanah Laut district, South Kalimantan Province. Based on the result of survey in fi eld, data processing, and modeling, it can be interpretated that the existence of potential aquifer in Padang area is occupied between 15 – 40 meter and above 130 meter depth. Keywords : Groundwater, geophysical technology

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia is the largest country that has oil palm plantations, covering 7.3 million ha area (2009), with production of 19.4 million tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO) which is expected to palm oil sludge waste as much as 1.94 million tons/year. Palm oil sludge waste is one alternative to potential animal feed ingredients. The low nutritional value and high fiber content causes palm oil sludge requires special treatment before given to animal. The fermentation process is able to increase the nutritional value of the palm oil sludge, such as increasing levels of crude protein and energy metabolism, and also may reducing content of coarse fiber. This fermentation product can be stored at room temperature for 12 weeks without experiencing significant changes in nutritional value. The usage limit of palm oil sludge which is recommended for poultry is 15%. The optimum limit of palm oil sludge in the diets of goats and sheep is 47% and 40% for cows (in concentrate). The use of rice bran on ruminants can be replace entirely by the palm oil sludge. Fermentation techniques can be done to improve the nutritional value of the palm oil sludge, but this technique needs to be studied economically, such as: during the drying process (because of the high content of LMS), and the quite expensive fermentation. Another technique to minimize costs has been done, for example by utilizing the available energy sources in the plant oil. Keywords: palm oil sludge, nutritive values, ruminant, poultry, fermentation.

Abstract

Municipal waste from day to day has increased its production in line with the increase of urban population. However, running a waste management system has been unable to solve the problem of waste properly. Therefore, a new breakthrough is needed to deal with. With the enactment of Law No. 18 of 2008 on Waste Management, each source must be to reduce the amount of waste to be disposed of to the final processing of waste. The office is one of the sources of waste, also must reduce the amount of waste that must be disposed of to the final processing of waste (landfill). The purpose of this paper is to examine waste management in an integrated manner to maximize the waste management office. In the process of management, garbage collector used by officers in the study. The rest moved to the TPS waste. In this place officers also collect that is still valuable economic and processed organic waste into compost. Of these operations, the rest of office waste disposed to landfill about 48.7%keywords : office waste, integreted office waste management

Abstract

An evaluation of the environmental situation of the Seribu Islands water ecosystem was conducted byusing the physical and chemical data obtained from various sources. The water quality of the Seribu Islandin general was within the range of moderate to good quality with indication poor trend in the southern partdue to relatively high turbidity as shown by lower transparency and high of the heavy metal concentrationof the Cd and Pb. The situation recommends that the aquaculture activities should be directed to themiddle and northern part of Seribu Island to ensure their sustainability.

Abstract

Selection of the appropriate composition desalination units can be done with a variety of method approaches, one of the method is the Analytic Hierarchy Process. In determining the desalination unit with AHP method to consider is setting a goal, an alternative criteria and pairwise comparison. Research for the determination of the exact composition of the desalination unit in order to achieve sustainable drinking water suppy in coastal areas and small islands has been conducted. The results of the study are as follows, the energy demand of 50.83%, operator costs of 26.64%, maintenance costs of 14.13% and chemical requirement 8.4%. For an alternative composition desalination unit of RO 10 m3 / day is the best alternative composition with value of 59.61%, the composition of the next alternative is RO 20 m3/ day of 30.40% and the last alternative of the desalination unit composition is RO 120 m3/ day of 09.99%.Key words : Desalination, Mukti Stage Flash Composition, AHP

Abstract

An increase on population and income of people will be followed by an increase on the energy utilization. As consequence, the CO2 emission from the energy utilization also increases that has impact on increasing environmental problem. The increase of CO2 emission can be reduced by the utilization environment friendly energy source and technology such as using low carbon energysource and increasing the effi ciency of energy technology. In 2008, most of CO2 emission from energy utilization in the world was contributed from OECDcountries. Most of the CO2 emission from the energy utilization was from electric generation sector. The CO2 emission from energy source is infl uenced by carbon content and combustion system that used in the utilization. Total CO2 emission in the world was almost 33.932 million ton that about 1,3% or 438 million ton was contributed from Indonesia. These emission is estimated to increase in thegrowth rate of 3,5% per year until 2030.Key words: CO2 emission, energy utilization.

Abstract

Almost all of the tapioca industries in Bogor are small scale industries and have not implemented the cleaner production practices yet. Results of the survey showed that careless in discharging process of solid and liquid wastes and the absent of waste treatment caused pollution. Utilization of solid waste to handle liquid waste is one of the application of cleaner production. Onggok as solid waste has been utilized to minimize the negative effect of the liquid tapioca waste. It is used as medium of Alcaligenes latus. The microbecan grow well in glucose produce from the onggok in concentration of 5 g/l and fermentation period of 30 days. Treatment with biofloculation reduced liquid waste turbidity by 54%, TSS 60%, BOD by 33%, COD by 34% and cyanide content by 41%. Treatment with biofloculation and dilution reduce turbidity by 89%, TSS by 91%, BOD by 62%, COD by 70% and cyanide content by 78%. Finally, combination of biofloculation, aeration and dilution treatment reduce turbidity by 93%, TSS by 95%, BOD by 71%, COD by 74% and cyanide content by 35%.Key words: biofloculation, solid and liquid waste tapioca, Alcaligenes latus
