Abstract

One method to reduce emissions of CH4 from municipal solid waste landfill is to modify the final cover layer. Methane (CH4) oxidation by methanotrophs bacteria in the soil cover layer can reduce the concentration of the CH4 emission to the atmosphere. Through field experiments, tested the effect of media bed thickness, moisture and nutrient content in the form of a media bed type that is compost and paddy soil. In general, the efficiency of oxidation by using compost media is higher than the use of paddy soil cover. For both media bed, moisture content 30% more efficient in the oxidation of CH4 compared to 20%. Moisture content determines the rate of gas diffusion between media bed with its gas phase (CH4 and O2). While for a thickness of 25 cm also produced a higher oxidation rate than the 15 cm because of the methanotrophs population.keywords: landfill gas; biofiltration; methane oxydation

Abstract

The objective of the research is to know the effect of Alley Cropping to the land fertility, especially with the treatment of organic matter and combination between organic matter and dolomit, with regard to soybean production. The research used Complete Randomized Design with One Way Analysis of Variance, Regression, and Correlation in order to know the effect of treatment to the land fertility. The research was carried out in Cirebon Regency, West Java Province, during three planting seasons from 2007 to 2008. The results of the research showed that Flemengia congesta as a fence crop or hedgerows was signifi cant to land fertility through improvement of nutrients availability, increasing pH, decreasing availability of aluminium (Al). The effect of organic matter from prunning of the hedgerows into the soil to a high of 5,0 ton/ha will increase average soybean production from 13.974 kw/ha (dry grain) to 18.176 kw/ha or increase 30,07 %, whereas the effect of organic matter 5,0 ton/ha combined with dolomit 2,5 ton/ha will increase average soybean production from 13.974 kw/ha to 19.983 kw/ha or increase 43.00 %. The effect of organic matter 10,0 ton/ha combined with dolomit 2,5 ton/ha will increase average soybean production from 13.974 kw/ha to 21.966 kw/ha or increase 57.19 %.

Abstract

Social dynamic of of waste management is rarely discussed in a paper. Using causal loop diagram, this issue will be analyzed in this paper based on the case study of waste management in Jakarta. Problems occurred in Jakarta were identified using metaplan method carried out by BPPT to explore social problem of solid waste management. It is started from the fact that for managing waste,the regional government tends to use the top down approach rather than bottom up approach. The analysis shows the result that the problems are dynamic as social problems always changes, not static. Such dynamic tendency can be anticipated in the future by the regional government in accordance with the social changes occurred to people live in Jakarta.Key Wods : social dynamic, waste management, model dinamic

Abstract

aat ini pesisir Teluk Semarang mengalami berbagai permasalahan yang sangat kompleks. Permasalahan tersebut adalah rob dan banjir, penurunan muka tanah, dan abrasi pantai. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut telah banyak konsep diusulkan dan yang paling mengemuka adalah konsep dam lepas pantai dan sabuk/ tanggul pantai sepanjang garis pantai. Untuk merencanakan pembangunan dam lepas pantai ataupun sabuk/ tanggul laut diperlukan data dan informasi terkait kondisi dan karakteristik perairan laut padahal data dan informasi terkait hal tersebut masih sangat terbatas. Oleh karena itu diperlukan survei dan kajian kondisi karaktersitik perairan laut di Teluk Semarang. Metodologi kajian ini adalah dengan mempelajari data hasil penelitian terdahulu, melakukan survey lapangan dan pengambilan sampel sedimen dasar dan sedimen layang serta melakukan analisis di laboratorium. Berdasarkan hasil kajian ini diketahui bahwa kualitas air laut di Semarang secara umum memenuhi baku mutu untuk kegiatan pembangunan pelabuhan, sedangkan untuk kegiatan wisata terdapat beberapa parameter yang melebihi baku mutu terutama yangberada di dekat muara sungai. Kondisi hidro-oseanografi perairan laut di Semarang adalah kecepatan arus kurang 50 cm/dt dengan arah dominan ke barat dan barat daya, kedalaman kawasan kajian mencapai -17 m, tipe pasang surut campuran dominan ke harian ganda. Konsentrasi sedimen melayang di peraiaran laut lepas berkisar 0,028 – 0,063 gr/l dan di sekitar muara berkisar antara 0,036 – 0,079 gr/l. Sedimen dasar tergolong pasir halus dengan d50 berkisar antara 0,1 – 0,23 mm.kata kunci : dam lepas pantai, kualitas air laut, hidrooseanografi

Abstract

This study is conduct to evaluate the changes of biogeophysical aspects of Leuwigajah Dumping Area (TPA) after the slidding event of municipal solid wastes in 2005. It is necessary to reuse the TPA in the future through rehabilitation and revitalitation.The study is important due to the detail engineering design (DED) of new TPA which is still in an on going process, whereas need some consideration from technical and non-technical aspects. The result of geological survey showed that there is no signifi cant changes in geological condition, whether the changes were found in groundwater and surface water quality, before and after the slidding event. At the other side, the result of existing solid waste material showed that a high heavy metals content was found in the bulk material. It isalso found that the quality of degraded material yet is closed to compost, with a C/N ratio between 12,04 to 15,74. This compost-soil is recommended for daily cover soil at the TPA. So, before operating a new TPA, landfi ll mining must be done as initial activity.To reduce or minimize environmental impact the new TPA has to apply sanitary landfi ll method.Key words : biogeophysical, post slidding , Leuwigajah dumping area

Abstract

Water at the supercritical state is a new process for the chemical recycling. At this thermodynamic state i.e. Pc = 218 atmospheres and Tc = 374oC , water behaves very differently from its everyday temperament and it is a very good solvent for organic components. Experimental studies show that supercritical water can decompose hydrocarbons/polymers and produce useful products like 2-Azacyclotridecanone /lactam-1 from Nylon-12 (batch process). The decomposition process itself was carried out in batch reaction system in order to get more information about product distributions, time dependence, and scale-up possibilities.Keywords: supercritical water, decomposition, batch, polymer, hydrocarbon
