Abstract

Problems in mathematics are a challenge that needs solving but the solution cannot be done by using routine procedures. Understanding the problem as well as wealth of experience and strategy is needed to solve these problems. Students need experiences that can be obtained through interaction with others in cooperative learning. Different strategies that may emerge from others can enrich their experiences. The study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of cooperative learning in mathematics problem solving courses. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research methods. The object of research is the effectiveness of group learning in mathematics problem solving courses which include four procedures: understanding problems, planning strategies, solving, and checking answers. The research subjects are fifth semester students of PGSD STKIP PGRI Pacitan study program in the academic year 2019/2020. Sources of data in this study are: (1) Mathematical problem solving test data (2) Observation data during the lecture process (3) Group learning questionnaire data. Test of validity of the data is done through triangulation technique. The results showed that group learning in mathematics problem solving courses had fulfilled the characteristics of cooperative learning, providing benefits to students. And the effectiveness of four mathematical problem-solving procedures resulted in 80% for problem understanding, 80% for strategic planning, 70% for solving math problems, and 75% for checking math problem solving. Keywords: mathematical problem solving; cooperative learning; mathematics.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of mathematics learning application media for the fifth-grade elementary school students about the flow rate. The research was designed to develop learning material using interactive PowerPoint media. The study was conducted at Barenglor 4 Elementary School. This study used the Research and Development (RD) method by employing four procedures development which include: (a) exploration, (b) the development of the draft/prototype, (c) test try products and revisions, and (d) final validation. The research subjects were fifth-grade students at Barenglor 4 Elementary School. A total of 48 students were separated into two groups. There were 24 students in the experimental group and 24 students in the control group. The independent sample t-test was used to analyze the data with a significance level of 0.05. The researcher used expert judgment both academicians and practitioners. The results of the study showed that the learning tools were reviewed by the experts of material, media, and evaluation about the aspects of syllabi, lesson plans, instructional media, and assessing for learning outcomes categorized as "Very Good". The application of learning tools, in general, can be reached with the "Very Good" category. Then, the difference in the final results between the control class and the experimental class after using a thematic-integrative learning tool with p0.05.Keywords: mathematics learning; flow rate; interactive powerpoint.

Abstract

The purposes of the study were to: 1) Develop a problem based learning module for the fourth-grade students, and 2) Discover the feasibility of the learning module. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (RD) as proposed by Borg and Gall (1983). In the field test stage, 52 fourth-grade students were involved as participants in an experimental design. The participants were divided into two group, while one group conducted learning by implementing the PBL Module, the other group conducted learning on regular basis with textbook from the government. The qualitative data were analyzed using qualitative method, and the quantitative data were analyzed by using Wilcoxon test. The results of this study reveal that: 1) The PBL Module was developed in accordance with PBL syntax; 2) The results of the development PBL  modules was feasible to be applied. The feasibility of PBL Modules based on the expert validation, validation of practitioners, and small-scale trial respondents obtains the "Good" category; 3) PBL-based modules are effective for increasing students’ achievement motivation as indicated by the Wilcoxon test producing obtained probability (p) of 0.027 (p 0.05), Ho is rejected, so there are differences in achievement motivation before and after using the PBL module. Based on the research results it can be concluded that the characteristics of PBL-based modules are in accordance with PBL syntax; Decent and effective way to increase achievement motivation of the fourth-grade students. Keywords: module; problem-based learning; achievement motivation.
