Abstract

The purpose of this work is to provide seminar needs (seminar kit) as compliments of seminar or symposium held by university including Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Method of this activity included launching of our main products, namely eco-print both on paper and on fabric. In this work, eco-print products on recycle papers was used as exclusive block-note covers while eco-print products on fabric were used as tote-bag materials. There were two advantages of using these products, firstly: they were made of natural ingredients without chemical synthetic materials; and secondly the products were designed specifically; one product was not similar with the others. This activity involved two partners, namely a recycle-paper producer and a tailor who make tote-bag. Result on progress of this activity was an order for seminar kit through exhibition. During the evaluation of this project it was found that Nauli Apik USU, as a seminar kit’s producer, still depends on workers whom working manually and having individual skill. In the future, management of production should be improved.

Abstract

Community service activities in the form of training in the application of appropriate technology for shredded production aimed at providing entrepreneurial skills and motivation. In this activity, technical guidance is carried out to increase knowledge and skills as well as work insights to the target so that they can form a shredded meat business group so that they can supply shredded needs for the people in the city of Kendari and surrounding areas. The activity method uses the technical guidance method where the participants are first given counseling related to basic knowledge of raw materials, equipment, manufacturing processes and abon assessment. Then there was a demonstration to make floss making involving the participants. The results achieved in this activity, in the form of increased knowledge and understanding of the training participants consisting of alumni of the Department of Animal Science, Halu Oleo University, were very interested and enthusiastic about receiving training materials and were very actively participating in the training activities. This situation shows that alumni majoring in animal husbandry are still in dire need of additional practice material because of the limited practical opportunities they have. In evaluating activities, participants' perception responses to follow-up activities are divided into three categories. Most want to make it for consumption and sell it as a source of income (60%), some want to make it for their own consumption with their families (30%) and some are interested but it is difficult to buy raw meat because of economic incapability (10%).

Abstract

Bukit Rumah Sendi Farmer Group is one of the farmer groups in Ujung Sampun Village, which consists of 22 family heads. Ujung Sampun Village is one of the villages in Dolat Rayat subdistrict, Karo District in Provinsi Sumatera Utara. This partner distance is about 70 km from Universitas Sumatera Utara. Cabbage (Brassica oleracea L) is a commodity planted by this farmer group. Plutella xylostella caterpillars available in cabbage are very much needed from the harvest so they need to be eradicated. Garlic is a crop interrupted by farmers is one of the local commodities besides cabbage. Garlic (Allium sativum) which releases biopesticides can kill caterpillars on cabbage. This activity is to provide innovations about the appropriate technology of biopesticides from raw materials of garlic to eradicate caterpillars as pests of partner cabbage plant diseases. The activities that have been carried out are preparation of garlic as a raw material for biopestides, applying biopesticides to selected community cabbage land every day at 9 am for 30 days. The results show that biopesticides are very effective in killing caterpillar pests with a mortality rate of 95%.

Abstract

Body Mass Index (BMI) or formerly called Quetelet Index is the measurement for scoring nutrient state in adults by using body weight (in kilogram) and body height (in metre). Obesity and overweight are defined as an abnormality of fat accumulation that can damage our health. Uric acid is a substance that is formed when the breaking process of purine occur. Hyperuricemia are condition that are closely related with gout. Uric acid level increased significantly towards those having obesity. It is also concluded that obesity was the usual cause in patients with recurrent gout attack. Strong relation has been found between high BMI with gout arthritis occurance. This research is a descriptive analytic research with cross sectional design included 50 diabetic subjects aged over 40 years old. Subjects picked by consecutive sampling then we examined the weight, height, waist size, blood pressure and laboratory tests for fasting blood sugar and serum uric acid level. With statistical analysis using chi square we found that there was no significant association between BMI and serum uric acid level in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients (p>0.005).

Abstract

Failure of stunting in children will produce human resources that cannot compete in the era of globalization, affect work productivity, increase the risk of obesity, and lead to metabolic syndrome. Indonesia has a high incidence of stunting among children under five and school children, including North Sumatra with a prevalence of 42.3%, ranked fourth in the province with a high stunting prevalence. The prevalence of stunting in children aged 5-12 years increases every year. During the growth of very high bone mineralization, low intake of protein, calcium, and zinc influences linear growth. Aged 5-12 years is an opportunity to catch up and improve height. In terms of overcoming the lack of protein, calcium, and zinc intake as well as spurring the growth of schoolchildren, it can be done by giving Lemuru fish nuggets. Fish nugget processing is a simple processing method and has a long shelf life, with storage life in the freezer was 2 weeks. From the results of conseling and training conducted an initial and final knowledge assessment, it is known that initial knowledge is still lacking with an average value of 64.69 after the activity has increased to 83.95. Participants better understand the benefits of local food such as lemuru fish to cope with the stunting situation experienced by their child.
