Abstract

Internet plays an important role in modern social movements. One of the modern social movements succeeded in Jakarta was initiated by Teman Ahok named "Pengumpulan Satu Juta KTP Untuk Ahok". The article was a part of a larger research about cyberurban space in a social movement. Therefore, the research question was, “how was imaginaries in cyberurban space concept in “Pengumpulan Satu Juta KTP” social movement by Teman Ahok?” This study used the qualitative method. Data were collected using virtual ethnography method, with the observation of a video posted by Teman Ahok. Data were analyzed using Bormann’s Fantasy Theme Analysis. The results of this study form in three fantasy themes that describe the comments about “Jakarta Butuh Kamu, Ayo Bergerak Sekarang” video. These themes are “goodwill has to be supported”, “I am ready to support Ahok, but how?”, and “Ahok is not fit to lead”. All these fantasy themes are in favor of “it’s difficult but it is possible” rhetorical vision. The fantasy themes have emerged, and rhetorical vision is formed that linked all the fantasy themes. It can be concluded; that symbolic convergence has taken place in the dissemination of “Jakarta Butuh Kamu, Ayo Bergerak Sekarang” video.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors affecting adult education in the eastern part of Ethiopia. The study employed a survey design that involved qualitative and quantitative approaches. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select 515 male and 285 female respondents. A questionnaire and an interview for collecting information from the primary sources were designed and implemented. Data were analyzed with linear correlation and Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression. The findings indicated that the relationship of overall adult learning achievement to assessment of learning (r = 0,29, P < 0,01), and the methods used by facilitators (r = 0,23, P < 0,01) is positive and significant. The regression model demonstrated that overall adult learning condition is significantly affected by variables such as relevance of the content, methods of teaching, assessment of learning outcome, and locality of the adult education learners.

Abstract

The research goals were to identify a spacial pattern in craftsmen house and to see its relevance to the social-cultural life of the craftsmen. The existence of domestic and economic activity in craftsmen house creates a spacial pattern with particular characteristics. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews, and visual documentation to record productive house, settlement condition, and sequences of pottery production. The in-depth interview focused on the use of time, space, and house modification in craftsmen house. House in the craftsmen settlement was growing gradually by adjusting to the inhabitant's needs. This research was included in qualitative research that described observation results and then analyzed spacial pattern formed in craftsmen house. Research results show that in this settlement beside the mixed, balanced, and separated type of productive house, there is also pottery collectors house type. The changes in the productive house are related to housing adaptation or house adjustment to accommodate production process. The settlement orientation is along the streets, but the existence of open space in the form of pottery kiln and hay storage become the main orientation for productive spaces inside the craftsmen house. Pottery kiln and hay storage have become open cultural space that characterizes the pottery craftsmen settlement.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe how the brand image could be improved through television commercial (TVC) with a special theme. The focus of this research was how to improve the brand image through TVC with a special theme. This study was broken down into research questions (1) How does “Create Your Chance” TVC of Tokopedia.com increase brand awareness? (2) How does “Apologizes” TVC increase Bukalapak.com, (3) How does brand image as if formed by Tokopedia.com and Bukalapak.com. The concept used was the elements of the brand image and mass communication. The paradigm of descriptive qualitative methods was to be a way of expressing the data in this study that supported by two previous quantitative research. The results show that (1) "Create Your Chance" TVC of Tokopedia.com increases brand awareness through visualization and the words that exist in the TVC as being able to see the opportunities, such as visualization of barber who also received job through online booking, (2) "Apologize" TVC improves brand image of Bukalapak.com as online sites that provides competitive pricing and managed directly by the young CEO who humble so deliberately apologize for the lack of focus of the employees of the many offices as a buyers, (3) Brand image is enhanced by tokopedia.com and Bukalapak.com with touch the dimension of emotional of audience.

Abstract

The goals of the research were to compile a reading material that was able to measure the fifth year primary students’ comprehension to the Betawi folklore which represented Indonesian culture; the value found in the Betawi folklore, and to increase their writing skills based on the vocabulary in context assessment. A library research was applied by selecting the story suitable for primary school students, translating materials, simplifying the reading, and making reading exercise to develop student’s reading comprehension skills. Reading materials and exercises were focused to the fifth year primary students who have been learning English for more than three years. It can be concluded that the interesting reading materials can be compiled from the original Indonesian folklore entitled “The Old Sly Stork” to support students’ achievement in finding the story’s values, and students’ skills in writing based on the reading materials, value, and their daily life experiences.
